A very fair and impartial review... willing to cut the company some slack when it's realistic (i.e. we don't live in a perfect world and things go wrong even with the best companies and their intentions, and talking about their quick turn around times when contacted with a problem), but also lets us know what is completely unacceptable when you send things in to be serviced and they don't do their job. Visser should send you a thank you for helping them identify their quality control issues in their service department so they can fix them PDQ (likely someone is going to get fired and replaced!)...

When you're in the premium line business - whether it's cars, watches, electronics, or fishing tackle...reputation is EVERYTHING. Yes sure, your products may be hand-made with the most expensive materials...but if word gets out that your product or service is subpar - bye bye profits. The fact of the matter is, people can buy cheaper products than yours that will likely get the job they need done just as well or almost as well, but they chose your product because they expected the premium "experience", which includes performance, reliability, and in case something goes wrong - premium service. Not a good start for the boys at Visser. Props to you for calling it like it is. I know you're not out here just trying to rip into companies and ruin them...but the truth is the truth. This $700 reel they cheaped out on when it came to repairing it will likely end up costing them 100 fold in the long run. Already several people on this video posting about how they were just about to buy one for the holidays but now they're not.

Warning- Reel Companies and Service Departments, if you want to stay on top of your game and continue to make a name for yourselves- don't end up like this where your stuff ends up on Tackle Advisors' bench and be put to shame! End of story!!! Thank you Tackle Advisors for your keen observations and keeping us up to date on sorry equipment and services out there. I live in North Carolina and had a bad situation with a certified Shimano service center in Goldsboro. I sent my Twin Power to them to get the "Higher End" service to it due to the class of reel that it was. When I got my reel back it was obvious that they didn't even touch it. All dust and small sand particles were still on it. I called them up and made the complaint. They paid for the shipping to send it back in. On the second round- it was no different. At that time- I've come to realize that you cannot trust people anymore and it is definitely hard to find good quality service these days.

Reels of this price are sold to catch anglers, not fish. I've got an old Shimano 5010 baitrunner that's been used on rivers, canals and off the rocks in West Scotland, never been serviced or cleaned (rain takes care of that) and still works like new. It's at least 15 years old, maybe cost me £60 or so, can't remember!

I've worked in manufacturing over 40 years, and this looks like the type of attention to detail that most employees put into the job; NONE!
The prevaling attitude of the majority of production workers is to shrug their shoulders and say "So what? I'm getting paid."
Too bad because I was really interested in a bombproof saltwater reel for fishing multiple species on the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

I had a very old VS100 serviced by (name withheld). It took almost the whole year to get it back. When it finally got to me the shop initially sent it to my former address (I had moved in the interim) even though I spoke with someone and gave them my NEW address. When I called about it’s whereabouts everybody denied speaking to me. Whatever. After numerous calls to USPS it finally arrived. As soon as I took it out of the box I IMMEDIATELY noticed the handle kept turning if you cupped the rotor. I called the owner and he said “I never check for that, I just assume that it would work.” I flipped out and after numerous regrettable comments from me he agreed to take it back on his dime. It came back about a week later working.
The moral of this story is this: reel repair guys are rushed, they don’t pay attention to what they’re doing or they just don’t GAF.
What happened here with this reel was it probably got mixed up with someone else’s and a reel mechanic “thought” he repaired it when he actually didn’t even crack it open.

What good is a review on a cherry picked reel when it comes to anything but design and tge quality of parts. The issues with Visser is they seem to have employees techs with the lowest pride in their work and no procedures are in place for accountability and tracking of tech to reel associations.
The design is awesome. The overall quality of the parts is good to excellent [a bit of room for improvement]. But the overwhelmingly piss-poor area that puts them below reels on the open shelf at Walmart is assembley and service. You could open 100 $30-50 reels and not find a defect in assembly. With Visser I would not be surprised if 25% had some defect.

As a Staten Islander, I liked your accent Scoob,.. pretty good. "Garbage." --a commonly used adjective on SI. That olive colored grease looks very "aluminum oxidized green grease that looked unaffected where it was sticking to the side-plate. I have seen many aluminum gears completely oxidize a white grease to gray in one minute of handle cranking. What's clear to me, is that they simply applied fresh grease to the old. Tool tip: under low torque this doesn't matter but you want to turn the wrench "over" from how you had it, to loosen the nut--less likely to pull away/slip off a greasy nut in that orientation. You probably know anyway. That does indeed look like rust. Some salt got in? Stainless doesn't mean stain-free, it just stains less, with rust or corrosion. The problem with stainless steel is that it can chew up brass and aluminum. That add lash space between the teeth and it gets geary. Penn used bronze which has much better sliding wear-resistance than brass. Bronze is copper and tin (fairly harder than zinc which is in brass, so it won't agree with stainless. What's rusting that gear, made that bearing crunchy. And is that gap at the rotor still wide open to water? That pinion may be pseudo brass they use to make hose nozzles now. So, the materials are "garbage" for $700. The reel, to me, is a $100 reel. That clicker spring is backward, yeah, unless it's to give you a choice of more/less tension for preference. I doubt that! And, "Pentium Brake" sounds so 1990s, like "Intel Inside" chips. They may be quick to respond but given the quality of service, this Visser eviscerates your wallet for old school technology of design and materials (except the shaft?), let alone service. Gobbage! It reeks of gimickry. There's a sucker market out there for high end junk if you knkow nothing about materials/design and have to trust the exortionary price to convince you it must be superb. Eggs are eggs no matter who scrambles them. The Visser folks lay rotten ones. How dare they sell eggs for 700 bucks!

Interesting channel. I've always liked messing with reels--baitcaster and spinning. I've never spent more than $150...probably more like $100. If I used one in salt, apart it came when I got home. I guess even Van Staal spinning parts are made in China. I can't imagine spending $500 or more on any reel. If I did, I'd want it to be flawless. Planned obsolescence...boo.

It seems like it's still in a prototype testing phase and that anglers are doing the guinea pig field testing for Visser. I could be wrong.

To make certain that I would be a satisfied customer, they'd have to replace everything inside.

I just sent my visser no5 to service it. Around mid october the reel started to lock up every couple cranks and today it just decided to lock up and it wont crank anymore. Going to buy a van staal vr 175 now

If that was rust from supposedly stainless parts then it wasn't stainless material of very high quality ..I worked in the Dairy industry for over 30 yrs and one thing stands out with stainless quality is that there would never be any rust or corrosion on any of our stainless parts... so this then points to either an outside contaminant or its not stainless steel.. and as for the bearings being completely shot... not impressed ! At any price

Hey tackle advisors love the videos!
I’ve been wanting to buy a new reel but it seems the only fully sealed real is a van staal which I and most people probably wouldn’t want to dish out 700 bucks for a reel, what reel would you recommend? Should I just go with something like a battle 3? And if I have issues it’s not a big deal since it’s 120 bucks? What are you’re thoughts or do you think spending a few hundred more for a spin fisher/ sarragossa is worth it? Thanks so much and keep up the good work

Love your content. Please keep posting!! What's your thoughts on Shimano Calcutta conquest? Love mine, but I'm curious what you think about the gearing in that thing.

If these companies would just build in another half thousandth +.0005 into the slop of all the gears they could QPQ the internals and NEVER have any rust issues ( even if submerged in salt water ) and have a surface that’s slicker and harder than the base metal!!!

That’s a crying shame they send that reel back like that! I am going to bet they didn’t check anything just add new grease to the old grease and sent it back!

looks like we better have another name change here and institute some new servicing protocols and personnel changes.. back to square one and hopeful avoidance of bankruptcy.

This is about as embarrassing for the company as that Fin Fanatic braided line review where the line had what almost looked like a wind knot in the spool.

I think the bevels are called "Chamfering" - I'd need a machinist to back me on that- but you can see it in the relief holes in the main gear - holes are drilled and chamfered. - not even sure I'm spelling it right.

Would the clicker problem be the same reason why the VR50 is so quiet? Mine is barley noticeable when pulling line.

I was servicing a brand new Daiwa zillion 1520 HD model and one of the trim pieces that fits between the frame and the side plates fell out and got lost. It took me 2 months of talking to daiwa to come up to a conclusion that sorry the reel is *to new* and they dont have parts in stock for it yet to fix it. I couldnt even send it in they just told me to deal with it. Not impressed.

This looked like a half job. Like they cracked the case, wiped it out, and re greased it. Banked on dude not looing at it and sent it off. $700 ouch...that pinion bearing sounded like something out of a 10 year old real.
