He didn't do anything, technically. Things spawned out of his control. And unlike in the MCU's piss-poor take on Civil War, Stark did not just come into Peter's house one day and demand from him loyalty or otherwise he'll tell his secret to everyone. Stark was a genuine friend to Peter, who knew him for years as Iron Man before he revealed his identity, who helped him and his family out after Scorpion destroyed Peter's family home and his family had nowhere to live, so Stark offered them to live in the Avengers building. He earned his trust. And Peter was an adult, by the way, working as a teacher and married, not a 15-year-old snot.
@@MachineFuckingHate The MCU’s take on Civil War is WAY more compelling than the comic version imo. The comics didn’t have any of the beef between Iron Man and Bucky that made the ending of the Civil War movie so heartbreaking and morally ambiguous. The comic Civil War is way more black and white. Pro registration bad, anti registration good. Simple as that. Also Iron Man is a better friend and mentor to Spider-Man in the MCU Civil War than the comics. He doesn’t force Spider-Man to reveal his identity and sends him home from the war when he realizes that Peter is in legitimate danger. He also doesn’t “demand loyalty from him”. It is never implied that he will tell Peter’s secret to everyone if he doesn’t come with him. I don’t know where you got that idea from.
@@jameslough6329 ''The MCU’s take on Civil War is WAY more compelling than the comic version'' No, it isn't. The story itself is better written, but also the way the larger Marvel Universe dealt with the aftermath of it is better, since, unlike in the MCU, there was a legitimate change in status quo for Marvel and its consequences lasted for quite a while. Such as Sue and Ben leaving FF, Thor coming back to live on Earth after his death at Ragnarok and finding out about what has happened in his absence and putting the fear of god into Stark after chatting with him, etc. The MCU never followed on the consequences of Civil War. They just forgot it happened and moved on. >The comics didn’t have any of the beef between Iron Man and Bucky Yeah, because in the comics Stark's parents died because of a rival company that wanted to take out Howard Stark, not Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier, who didn't even reappear in the comics till 2005. >that made the ending of the Civil War movie so heartbreaking and morally ambiguous. I don't know what is there morally ambiguous about one guy being mad at another guy because he killed his parents. Pretty unambiguous, if you ask me. ''The comic Civil War is way more black and white.'' No, it wasn't. For starters, there was no villain pulling the strings on the heroes. They made the decision to split apart by themselves, and hence the compelling nature of that conflict. And the ending climax is reassuring that there is no black and white in that conflict, because Cap, after he sees that yet again the superheroes are causing damage, making innocent people suffer, sees the errors of his ways, where he put his principles before the people he swore to protect, forgetting that he fights for others first, then for himself. So he gives up to the authorities ''Pro registration bad, anti registration good.'' You're forgetting about the pro-registration side using villains to catch heroes on the run meanwhile the sides that were anti-registration acts worked closely with the likes of The Punisher. ''Simple as that.'' No. ''Also Iron Man is a better friend and mentor to Spider-Man in the MCU Civil War than the comics.'' Not likely, considering in the comics they had a long history together and Stark was of great help to Peter and his family before the events of Civil War. ''He doesn’t force Spider-Man to reveal his identity''' He never did in the comics, either. Peter made that decision himself. ''and sends him home from the war'' Perhaps he shouldn't have brought him there in the first place, since Spider-Man, unlike in the comics, has no stake in that fight and is too young to be fighting The Avengers anyway. Also, that fight in the airport reveals the complete misunderstanding of the comic. In the movie that big superhero fight is presented as ''F YEAH!'' moment, when in the comics that was a horrifying and awful thing. You shouldn't be rooting for them fighting. You should feel depressed and want them to stop fighting and get along . People usually dank on Snyder as being someone who misses the subtext of the source material and goes for ''LOOK HOW AWESOME THIS IS'' interpretation, but damn, did the Russos and their writers fall into the same trap. ''when he realizes that Peter is in legitimate danger.'' He wouldn't be if someone didn't force him to go there and fight in the first place. ''It is never implied that he will tell Peter’s secret to everyone if he doesn’t come with him. I don’t know where you got that idea from.'' He says it to Peter right before Peter webs Stark's hand to the door knob.
Superior Iron Man: *snaps fingers* There; your sight Daredevil: Omg i can see! But it doesn't change how i feel about your bullshit Iron Man: *snaps fingers* There; brain damage Devildare: How could you possibly do this
I remember hearing about a story where Von Doom and Stark switch bodies. While Doom squanders Tony's fortunes Tony's fortunes Tony himself builds a company from the ground up and become a superhero regardless. I wish we could get an Iron Man more like that than the one in most comics.
Yup. I recall that comic. The title of the story is "Demon in An Armor". I once read a short essay where it argued that when Tony stopped being an alcoholic playboy, he somehow got addicted to solving problems as a substitute addiction. When he has no problems, he starts turning into a bigger jerk or even evil, all just to create problems he'll need to fix later. In most continuities, Latveria is full of problems, problems that multiply every time you fix one. So living there would allow Tony to be the hero that he sees himself as.
There's a character in DC, Captain Atom, who is apparently a character powerful enough to face off against Superman. Everyone says he's a hero, but literally every tine I see him, he's fighting Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, or some other hero. And even when they're supposed to be working together, he's either talking like a villian or is a straight up jerk. That's how I feel about Iron Man.
He's cool in injustice, but in Injustice whenever someone other than superman is cool, a random character comes out of nowhere and decks them Also he's basically a normal hero in the first episode of jlu, but I'm not sure if he shows up in any episodes outside of the 2 cadmus ones.
Also Reed Richard is evil too. He helped ironman built Thor clone. And he has done some horrific stuff in comics. Like the one where he turns his family into zombies. Pretty much anyone who has been in the Illuminati are kinda evil.
I was about to say Mr fantastic is a bitch ass too. Only decent members of the Illuminati would be namor and black panther and that’s reallly pushing it
I’ll vouch that Prof X is an asshole who has been mentally manipulating his students for years and erased Scott’s memories of his brother Vulcan because he needed his perfect soldier boy to stop grieving and get back in line. Kitty knows what’s up when she called Xavier a jerk.
This is problem caused by writers who don't understand Iron Man character at all , or at least only seem to know him in superficial level. While Tony can be arrogant and stubborn, he's not a heartless jerk. In the end of the day, he's a man trying to make up for his past mistakes, using his inventions to help people instead of hurt them. He has flaws, but knows when his actions goes to far (specially when they hurt others) and takes responsability instead denying it. The best exemple of this done right is Armor Wars (my favorite Iron Man story, by the way) in which Tony discover that Justin Hammer stole the plans of his armor and sold to criminals, causing him to hunt down the people who have his technology. During the story Tony makes mistakes (ex: he breaks into a prision and shuts down the Guardsman armors and fights Captain America; he invades Russia and accidently kills the Titanum Man) that causes to become a outlaw. However, Tony doesn't ignore the problems he causes, he recognize the consequence of his actions and tries to prevent that the damage affects the people close to him (ex: He leaves the Avengers, he fires Iron Man from Stark Enterprise trying to protect employees). The fact he cares for others to point of trying to prevent from paying from his mistakes that makes Tony so complex and sympathetic .
I honestly said this exact same thing at some point. I even thought of an Iron Man story and it does more than what Marvel writers do for him the vast majority of the time. Weird how most of the examples of Iron Man being evil comes from modern comics and not older comics.
I'm sorry, but it's actually *YOU* who doesn't understand Iron Man. Iron Man's roots as a character lie in a paranoid, control-freak arms dealer who feels little to no guilt over the weapons he deals to the government & is prone to being driven by his paranoia towards dictatorial measures. The original Iron Man is very much a morally grey character; he's the type who sees no problem in assuming the role of absolute dictator over everyone if the math checks out & says it would benefit society. He doesn't flinch at dropping his teammates (even going as far as killing them) if, again, the math checks out judges that the world would be better off for it. He was originally very standoffish from the rest of The Avengers because of his unapologetic role in the military-industrial complex, and was very much the "classy drinks with senators I put in my pocket" sort of character. The original Iron Man is, in many ways, a character that reminds me of the "World-Controllers" from Brave New World; the leaders of the futuristic dystopia who believed their dictatorial policies were for the betterment and advancement of the species. Tony Stark is almost block for block the same archetype. It wasn't until RDJ's MCU influence that we would get the quippy, joking Tony who wanted to leave his morally grey past behind. Now all of a sudden Tony stops dealing arms and starts dealing in renewable energy. Now all of a sudden his dictatorial traits are gone and he's really just another quippy smarta$$ character; annoying sure, but ultimately harmless. Before RDJ, the only thing Iron Man wanted to "leave behind" was drinking; after RDJ his entire character gets an overhaul. All of the extremes which flavored Tony have been removed to make him more casually acceptable as a cookie-cutter "hero" archetype. That's bs though, because Tony isn't supposed to be a cookie-cutter hero.
@@KevinJohnson-cv2no "who feels little to no guilt over the weapons he deals to the government" With that line I guess it's YOU who doesn't understand Iron Man character at all. If Tony didn't felt guilty for the damage caused by war why would he even want to become super hero in the first place? The whole point of the character origin is about Tony being a arrogant weapons maker who is put in the same position as the people caught by war, spending a time as prisioner and bonding with Yin Sen. His decision to avenge Yin Sen rather than just escape is Tony finally becoming a hero, using his inventions to help people. While in the first stories he was just a walking "cold war propaganda" boy, later stories, specially in the 80's made the character more complex: He's not perfect, sometimes can be arrogant, refusing to accept people's help and can be driven by fear, specially when ge feels responsible for damage the lifes of innocents (armor wars being the biggest exemple), but he's not a unlikable irredemable bastard. He's able to know when his actions are going to far and hurting people he cares about, and tries to save what's left and be better. This is sum up in one of Tony best quotes "Doctor Maya: There's no difference between us Tony. You're no better than me. Tony Stark : But I'm trying to be and I'm going to be able to look at myself in the mirror tomorrow morning" Iron Man in Extremis
Y'all talk like the character is either extremes only lmao dude is like every other human, full of contradictory traits of wanting to be good but being kind of a dick sometimes
Honestly I don’t think superior iron man should count in terms of his morality. The entire point is that he was part of an event where heroes and villains got their morality swapped
Let's also talk about the time that iron man Nor any of his colleagues in the avengers noticed that carol danvers was acting weird When she birthed her own son in the span of a day after getting pregnant out of nowhere, Then proceeded to not care that it happand and was perfectly OK With her son husband Taking her into space to Assult her And never even noticing that she was being brainwashed the entire time it was happening Effectively letting 1 Of his female colleagues go off into space with her mind controlling rapist for years
I wish I was joking about that And it took multiple years for a writer to Make a follow up to it after she finally came back, And she spent the entire comic berating The avengers and even getting in everyone's faces and Asking them how they could be so careless that they wouldn't even notice that she was being brainwashed
To be fair, Iron Man's chronic alcoholism basically makes him a character who's always teetering over the edge. So, him making these consistent morally grey short-sided decisions is actually pretty realistic.
His chronic alcoholism made him sell his company to Stane International, give his Iron Man armor to Rhodey, make him War Machine, and become homeless. This evil behavior toward his Avengers colleagues and civilians stems from malignant narcissism.
Iron Man is like the biggest sellout in real life. Like he has no principles like he really would make a venom factory next to a river just to poison an entire city. Or just open a KFC.

To be fair to the character... It's been 14+ years since he had an epic run. Most of the bargain bin writers that get assigned to him hate him because he's rich. Sorta like writers nowadays aren't big on Batman being rich. Iron Man has had several great storylines like Armor Wars or Demon In a Bottle. And some pivotal roles in some of the more epic Avenger runs. But that's usually been ages ago. Heck during Civil War the point was to have both sides to have a point. The writers just were too incompetent to tackle the character and the plot. So yeah... nowadays i'll take MCU Tony over the comics anyday, anytime.
It's odd how people call Doctor Doom a hero even after destroy universes with INNOCENT lives, and call Iron Man a villain after saving Earth from being judged by one of the most powerful Celestials by teaching the Celestial the value of a resolve to change ways & the definition of a hero. He might have done messed up sh*t but he's not entirely a villain, his good doings massively outweighs his evil doings the same applies with Professor X.
Lying on the internet are we? No, he didn’t make him as a joke. He made him during the vietnam war to see if he could make a playboy who was pro-war likeable. Everything leading up to Ironman by Stan Lee was a smash hit, it was a self challenge, not a joke

The problem with this is a lot of it is just writers fiat Don’t get me wrong he’s definitely a lot more arrogant and self-centered in the comics but you get dumb stuff like the hulk banished and super villain kill squads because they only care about the drama And not what the characters would actually do.
The way Thanos rubbed his head as he set Tony down with that sword in him was lowkey the most disrespectful thing he did. Like “chill bro, you did your best and you lost, you’re done”
Civil War ruined the public’s perception of Tony Stark, they even admit that Tony’s character wasn’t fully setup to do Civil War, so they purposely butchered his character Tony was a pretty good guy prior to Civil War aside from maybe Armor Wars, where he had good intentions, just executed them poorly. Iron Man also has a great run right now and he’s been doing some great stuff, like when Miles Morales got tortured Tony hunted those dudes down and took em all out
Iron Man’s appeal and greatest weakness is literally his evil arrogance and confidence, event though his character is literally about risk taking and finding out after fuking around. Ultron, weapons, etc. He can’t stop.
That intro was dope as hell for the 90’s Iron Man. I only hate they never did Armor Wars, I loved Tony just going nuts with guilt over getting his tech stolen……. I hate when writers keep making Iron Man evil, it’s annoying especially since Iron Man is my favorite superhero EVER 💀🙏 Iron Man in the old comics and the movies the best depictions of him
The original Tony Stark is actually dead because he turned evil and the Avengers replaced him with a past version of himself back in the 90s. 'Morality' is a blurred and convoluted conjunction that is meant to make 'meaning' when it's all BS at the end of the day by just for the fact alone that Humans exist...
"morality" is an abstract that's stemmed from an idea to give 'meaning' against the haphazardly on what the basis level of Good and Evil offers, despite that it isn't the case because of how "morality" as a concept is paradoxical by or against nature...
there's no measures to deter a set of principles between Good and Evil for you to be deemed as 'moral' since the contradiction plays at hand with the concept of 'immoral' that's stemmed from 'moral' but it plays contradictory connotations with the concept of 'moral' by acknowledging the alignment and principles through Good and Evil, and Immoral is deemed to differentiate those who apparently don't set the standards of what's 'moral' which for some reason alludes to 'Good'...
Amoral on the other hand, is the contradictory opposite to what 'moral' is and is instead generalised through the notion of not caring or dwelling or not grasping on the notion of what's 'right and wrong' - which the definition plays a hand of it being deemed 'different' despite 'morality' having the same or connotating paradoxical play...

F*#$ comic iron man, spider-man the goat, tony deserved what thor gave him
He didn't do anything, technically.
@@jameslough6329 ''The MCU’s take on Civil War is WAY more compelling than the comic version''
No, it isn't.
>The comics didn’t have any of the beef between Iron Man and Bucky
Yeah, because in the comics Stark's parents died because of a rival company that wanted to take out Howard Stark, not Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier, who didn't even reappear in the comics till 2005.
>that made the ending of the Civil War movie so heartbreaking and morally ambiguous.
I don't know what is there morally ambiguous about one guy being mad at another guy because he killed his parents. Pretty unambiguous, if you ask me.
''The comic Civil War is way more black and white.''
No, it wasn't. So he gives up to the authorities
''Pro registration bad, anti registration good.''
You're forgetting about the pro-registration side using villains to catch heroes on the run meanwhile the sides that were anti-registration acts worked closely with the likes of The Punisher.
''Simple as that.''
No.
''Also Iron Man is a better friend and mentor to Spider-Man in the MCU Civil War than the comics.''
Not likely, considering in the comics they had a long history together and Stark was of great help to Peter and his family before the events of Civil War.
''He doesn’t force Spider-Man to reveal his identity'''
He never did in the comics, either. Peter made that decision himself.
''and sends him home from the war''
Perhaps he shouldn't have brought him there in the first place, since Spider-Man, unlike in the comics, has no stake in that fight and is too young to be fighting The Avengers anyway.
''when he realizes that Peter is in legitimate danger.''
He wouldn't be if someone didn't force him to go there and fight in the first place.
''It is never implied that he will tell Peter’s secret to everyone if he doesn’t come with him. I don’t know where you got that idea from.''
He says it to Peter right before Peter webs Stark's hand to the door knob.

One day, dude's gotta mention what happened to Ultimates Reed Richards. He became arguably more of a menace than the one who was in the Illuminati
Is he just like that or like JLA 01 and Public Enemies where he is just a soldier being a soldier (stupid and obeying)
It's because unlike Captain America he's a soldier first and hero second.
He is a generic soldier with a tendency to blow himself up whenever Superman decides to get serious.@@МаксБурый-р2ю
He was pretty cool in JLU tho
He's cool in injustice, but in Injustice whenever someone other than superman is cool, a random character comes out of nowhere and decks them
Also he's basically a normal hero in the first episode of jlu, but I'm not sure if he shows up in any episodes outside of the 2 cadmus ones.

Tony was making and selling weapons until the early 70s. Imagine being a super hero and funding the Vietnam War💀
This is sum up in one of Tony best quotes
"Doctor Maya: There's no difference between us Tony. You're no better than me.
Tony Stark : But I'm trying to be and I'm going to be able to look at myself in the mirror tomorrow morning"

That intro was dope as hell for the 90’s Iron Man. I only hate they never did Armor Wars, I loved Tony just going nuts with guilt over getting his tech stolen……. A brilliant man driven Mad by his own Genius in making killing machines coming back to haunt him after him devoting his life to protecting/Avenging.
bruh hes a business man of course he is kinda evil
He’s a billionaire war criminal arms dealer who made the problems that caused the Sokovia Accords to be a thing then said “WE have to own up to OUR mistakes”
I hate when writers keep making Iron Man evil, it’s annoying especially since Iron Man is my favorite superhero EVER 💀🙏 Iron Man in the old comics and the movies the best depictions of him
Incredible that it took the Charisma of Robert Downey Jr for audiences to not think that stark is an evil deuche
That Infinity Memes at the start tho
The original Tony Stark is actually dead because he turned evil and the Avengers replaced him with a past version of himself back in the 90s.
He also did a false flag terrorist attack in order to sell weapons for bombing Atlantis during civil war.
Honestly civil war is just him taking the US constitution and shredding it so much you could make a few videos on it.
Tony is the kind of guy who would sell your whole family off to a random Asian sweat shop and tell you that it was for everyone's wellbeing.
It was.
