My mom was a farm girl from Florida. Growing up in the 'sticks,' the Sears and Roebuck catalog was a gift from heaven according to her. It came around twice a year and was first come, first served. It ran out pretty quick between 9 sisters and brothers. If I had a choice, catalog over corn cobs (which is true by the way) is my pick! Although you climbed a mountain, Chris, I was quite shocked that you found those 2 chunky-style bits. Looking at the steep angles, I thought most alluvial gold would have washed much further down. It would be a two day trek just to find exposed bedrock with no guarantee of finding anything. But every Saturday, I’m transported to the chunky gold hills of Australia to live out my prospecting fantasies. I can’t wait for the day I get to see a little sparkle on my fingertip after panning. At 9:31, that metal tube is a collar for a wooden handled tool like a file or screwdriver or similar. It fits around the handle where the tang of the tool goes into the handle to stop it splitting out

Another top video guys. What I like about your production, is you always teach something about the area you are in. These are far more enjoyable to watch than the other gold shows. They always have some manufactured drama.
That metal ring looks like it was a feral that stopped the wooden handle splitting when the tang of a chisel was inserted into it. There was often another feral at the other end of the chisel handle to stop the handle splitting when being struck with a hammer or mallet.
At about 2.30min in you discuss a clay filled structure with different rocks of either side. This type of structure is typical of geologic faults where rock bodies have been sliding past each other. The clay material is often called "fault gouge" and it is produced by the grinding effect of the sliding rocks. Depending on when the fault occurred in relation to the mineralising event, these locations may very well contain gold. Some years ago, I did some consulting work with an outfit around Hill End in NSW. The famous 93kg Holterman Specimen was associated with one of these faults. The company I was with located the fault in a few other places but alas no more 93kg specimens!

When my Dad was cleaning out my Grandfather's house, his neighbour Bill came over to help and as he turned over a 1945 newspaper, it disintegrated in his hand, on the page facing up was an article about the activities of Flying Boats up in Northern Australia. Neither the Catalina Club or the RAAF Club had that article on file, so my Grandfather had contributed to the historical record of both organisations. Bill had flown in the Cats during the war as an Air Gunner/Airframe Rigger and has since passed away. That little ring could have been a file handle they probably filed there tools, here in Oregon we have bad fire danger we have to keep fire tools sharp makes digging easy.
Rumor has it in WA is if you found a decent source that you would team up with the sh-t can man and go half's with the Nugget in the can, back in the day that is:)

Learn to clean the creek out so it concentrates the material ! This will reduce your labor at least 10 times. I can start when dry but you must return when the flow water is flowing at its maximum are flowing. Keep the water flowing you have to be in the creek through all the rock out sticks debris every time you move creates an Eddie every time you step creates an Eddie which stairs up to light material gold will not wash away it’s like a giant slush box.
I have found hundreds of ounces this way.! Guess you could call me an old timer. It’s obvious did you make your money from RUclips not gold mining. Please don’t take that as an insult for using your head. Making RUclips videos is a lot of work no such thing as easy money. Gold Mining is lots and lots of work no such thing as easy money . Your work is greatly appreciate .

Looks like he’s using a Gold Monster 1000. Many prospectors prefer the Gold Monster 1000 and/or the Gold Bug / Gold Bug 2, which is very popular too. Dan Hurd, Jeff Williams, and Pioneer Pauly all use one or both of the aforementioned detectors. Gold Monster makes more powerful units too, like the 6000, but the 1000 is more than adequate in my opinion. I use the Gold Bug 2, but if I could go back and do it over again, I’d get a Gold Monster 1000. Seems like it has some better features, ground penetration, iron discrimination, and it has a better tone too. Easier on the ears. Check your local markets for used units too. My local prospecting supply store has dozens of lightly used detectors. Also, a Garrett AT Handheld pinpointer is very handy. Hope this helps! Happy prospecting and may you and your son have heavy pans too!

Your particulate respirator is no good for any type of gas. Unless you are protecting your lungs from dust, it's useless.
