Thanks for posting this. In my case, I was getting the same elevator error. Seemwed like a dead motor, no power to it at all. I filled with the connections on the power driver board to make sure they were all seated and the issue went away. No tools needed :)
I found that Optosisolater ICs were my problem. A big problem on WPC that can have you chasing shadows originates in the ribbon cables. I made up a new set of cables . On mine there was one 26 pin cable and the short 34 pin cable can cause you all kinds of odd grief.

You have to open that small screw at 8:58 to take the whole thing out.
