Yo shoutout to Lockmort, the dude knows his crpgs. He basically listed all the best ones, I would say he only missed the Pillars of Eternity ones from Obsidian. Also, the Pathfinder games are really awesome for someone who loved the old Infinity Engine crpgs like BG and IW, they're basically Baldur's Gate 2.5 in terms of evolution, you can really see what those games would turn out to be if Black Isle would continue to exist today. Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous is an amazing game, everyone who likes crpgs should try it.
Biggest excitement about this show is the unknown combination of guests. Micah and Lockmort combo was really cool. This show pulls me into all the conversations even when i think i might not be interested in certain games.
Just want to say again that I"m glad to follow Brad here. Really enjoying the crews so far and the new episode of Constellation was awesome. Great shows!
This is my new favorite podcast. I personally prefer game discussion over news, even though I really like hearing about gaming news. I can already feel Brad getting into a groove. This show is just going to get better and better.
I understand if parties aren't interested, but I'd love to see Brad do Let's Plays with the rest of LSM. I only say that since he's prodding and trying to entice the cohosts to get out of their comfort zone and play different games. I think doing a gaming session whenever the schedules work out would be a great addition to LSM.
Been with Easy Allies and before that GameTrailers since 2013. Really sad to see how things have gone there but really enjoying this Podcast and the LSM content in general.
I just started the episode but shoutout for having the intention of being clear with spoiler warnings. The fact that every other podcast throws spoilers out without care is annoying
I agree with Micah about Persona games. I don’t think they’re stressful at all. It’s maybe stressful if you’re only going for the Platinum as quickly as possible, so you’re checking a guide every 5 minutes
I think I completely ruined my first experience with Persona 5 because of this. I hadn't played one before and was set on doing everything, and ended up getting burnt out halfway and never finished it. I'm considering starting P5 Royal now that I've shirked my trophy obsession (for JRPGs, anyways :P)
I remember an old quote from Micah on Constellation, something like "sleep is just a portal to breakfast time". Possibly the most accurate statement ever uttered in history. Breakfast food is the best.
SuSi is good, but so is SuS...😭 We can't have two separate SSes. Edit: Brad starting off the episode mentioning Micah being in a different Clan and Lockmort being an editing Wizard... Maybe this is another SS show 😬
Micah and Colin, gaming-wise, really are similar. Especially their weird hang-ups about certain games. Like Micah not liking Metroidvanias because of the map, the map in PoP is good. It isn’t a spaghetti.
Hey Micah, I believe Coalition was working on a new IP until recently it was scrapped to just focus on Gears. Also, they’ve run support on other Xbox team’s projects, as well as collaborating with Epic tech. I hope this clears things up.
Looks like Brad is team Tifa. Nice. To the person who wrote in about other Metroidvanias after Lost Crown, yes Hollow Knight is amazing and an essential but just know that the Platinum for HK is very difficult, borderline brutal, and that game does not hold your hand at all.
Haven't seen the LSM content featuring Lock before this, but I thought he was great here. Hope to see more LSM content featuring him in the future (either from the SS's or on Stelly)
Lock you should absolutely continue Attack on Titan. If there’s only one anime you should watch, it’s AOT. It gets more and more incredible with each season.
Idk why but it's beginning to bother me that Colin refuses to play games that aren't on Playstation lol. It's pretty ridiculous considering the insight he could give. I get he feels he HAS to play there to be relevant in the Playstation space. But my dude, you are just about unequivocally the best voice currently that isn't influenced by PlayStation PR or ad revenue. It's ok to play the odd off console game.
To the question about Metroidvanias; I started playing them for the first time last year, and played a bunch of them. Aria of Sorrow (Castlevania Advance Collection) and Symphony of the Night (Castlevania Requiem) are the way to go for someone looking to get into them on PS5.
For lockmort on baked potatoes: If the area you live in has a turkish community, chances are you also have baked potatoes there. Goes by the name "Kumpir".
46:01 I grew up with crpg and rts games. And when people told me "Oh BG3 is once in a generation game, it achieved something no other game achieved and set the new standard for rpgs." I was very excited. But when I checked I was kinda disappointed. BG3 definitely have very fancy graphics, cinematic presentation and fully voice acting definitely help, it has relatively better animations than old school ones. But in terms of crpg mechanics it is very standard and safe game. In fact some of the older entries are even better. Yes it is outstanding game and I really appreciate that it kinda put more eyes on genre but it doesn't set the new standard because it follows the standards. And it doesn't need to. And when I say that people usually got mad. If you told me one studio will make high budget, cinematic crpg I would probably imagine something like BG3.
I was thinking of getting into Yakuza with Like a Dragon, but some people say that there's the need for a lot of grind, which Infinite Wealth doesn't need as per some reviews. The grindless experience I had with FFXVI was great for me.
For Micah digging Dave The Diver, I recommend Moonlighter. You do top down hack and slash stuff in dungeons during the day, then you bring your loot home and sell it as a shopkeeper in an RPG world Could be that dual gameplay that you like from Dave (I have not played Dave the diver yet, but that's what it sounds like to me)
I'm a huge longtime fan of metroidvania games, Super Metroid is one of my all-time favorites. I love Ghost Song, as far as newer metroidvania experiences. I feel that it really gives you the same feeling as original Metroid games. Where you are stranded on an alien world, and feel very isolated. With extremely strange alien environments to explore.
Dudes, I still need to finish Kiwami and Judgement :( I think 3 is the shortest. Way behind on Yakuza lol, nice shout out to Jedi Survivor, its way better than what the sequel trilogy did.
Baldurs gate 2 is EASILY in my top 5 of all time. the writing and the characters are just way above BG3. Even the music, like, I love the BG3 music, but have you listen to BG2 soundtrack? I havnt been that impressed since ff7 back in 1997. It has one of the best main themes of all time. But yeah, I hold BG2 just as high as witcher 3, world of warcraft, final fantasy 7 and Persona 5- what a masterpiece.
To the write in, asking for a Metroidvania to recommend to a newcomer, I know it isn’t the most accessible but I gotta go Metroid: Zero Mission. About 5 hrs. to beat, so no unnecessary fluff. It makes the original Metroid obsolete, imo.
Micah is my favorite personality from Last Stand. She's not afraid to call it like she see it, but more than that, she's completely unapologetic about not playing something considered a "classic" or to say she doesn't like a "classic." As someone who's sometimes pretends I've played something like Skyrim so I can skip the conversation where people try to tell me all about it (I'm familar, I've kept up with the cultural conversation) or try to convince me to play it, her unapologetic forthrightness is so great.
@Lockmort Baldur's Gate 2 is one of my favorite games of all time as well and when I played Final Fantasy 7 Remake I was pretty excited when I realized it was using real time with pause. Absolutely love FF7R's combat
1:35:01 I believe that The Coalition were working on their own, new original IP which was cancelled after 2 years of development, and they were shifted onto Gears 6. That's why it's only just entered development and why there's been such a big gap.
At 1:47:45 Micah talks about how she desperately wants to play the Japan-exclusive 7th Dragon games, but she doesn't "have the time to play a fan translation." What does this mean? Playing a fan translation doesn't take any more time than playing an official translation. If the legality of downloading roms is what's stopping you, I understand that. But I don't see how time would be the barrier. You can just download the rom and an emulator and be playing in less than 3 minutes.
Cracker Barrel is cool and all, especially having breakfast all day. But every time I order pancakes, they taste like every food they've had on the fryer beforehand. Imagine your blueberry pancakes tasting like dirty steak. Cool merch shop though; definitely worth a stop when looking for random Christmas gifts.
Imho you should play BG before BG2, you can even carry your save data over. BG 1 and 2 were not made by Black Isle, they were made by Bioware and published by Black Isle, Bioware were their own studio back then. Also BG2 came out in 2000, same year as Deus Ex and Diablo 2 On the real time with pause stuff i can't agree, KoTOR 1&2, Dragon Age, Mass Effect 1-3, Pillars of Eternity 1&2, Pathfinder Kingmaker, Tyranny, and FF7 Remake all use real time with pause, if you've played those games it shouldn't be an issue. The issue with BG1 & 2 is builds, there's is no respeccing and it's super easy to completely gimp your characters with no way to fix it, unless you're an expert in the edition of DnD those games based on you have to use a build guide.
Oh man...I sincerely hope MIcah makes it through 3, 4, and 5 because they feel pretty rough. I love them, 5 most of all, but coming from kiwami 1, 2, and 6 plus judgment makes them feel super ps3ish.
Totally agree. Bioware is tiers above Larian, I wonder what Bioware can do if they ever get the Baldur's gate license again. BG2 > BG3 and BG2 is old as time itself😅😅😅.
Old Bioware are streets ahed of Larian in terms of storytelling and characterization, modern Bioware is utter horse manure if the last Mass Effect and Dragon Age games are anything to go by.
2:42:40 People really need to stop dog shitting on FF X like it was a bad Final Fantasy game when it’s one of the best ones in the series. By far most compelling story in the franchise for me by a mile.
It doesn't even have the most compelling writing of its console era (that goes to FFXII), let alone the whole franchise. Most of the folks who praise its writing seem to do so mainly because they grew up with the game.
I am happy with the idea of Microsoft taking a break from established franchises, such as Gears… sorry, Micah. I feel that there over reliance of such properties lead to me being underwhelmed with the XB1. I find it a wise decision to nurture new properties (with both Game Pass and physical sales in mind) and take the risky move of making well established franchise sequels Game Pass & digital sale only. I know! A shrewd move BUT if you are thinking strictly business, it seems like the correct course to take.
Matty has killed Lockmorts free time for edits. It's all Mattys fault for hiring Lock when Colin hired him to LSM to do edits. Fk Retro Rebound. Maybe Colin can hire Pingtrip to do edits
I love editing for both LSM and RR, but to put things in perspective: a RR edit takes me about 4hrs for 20mins, while a LSM edit takes me 10+hrs for 2mins.They're very different beasts to tackle. I promise I'll do my best to get you at least one LSM edit a month in 2024 though. Working on a new one right now. Eternally grateful to both Colin & Matty.
Yo shoutout to Lockmort, the dude knows his crpgs. He basically listed all the best ones, I would say he only missed the Pillars of Eternity ones from Obsidian. That thumbnail is killing me. All hopes of Colin ever playing the Yakuza series are now shattered.
This is dustin getting back at him for the AI debate
Ichiban wouldn't do our boy like that. You could tell that Dustin is unfamiliar with his character.
Lockmorts look 😂
But he did his friend from Vocational School like @@TheMaestro116

Loved Lockmort's talk on Baldur's Gate 2. really sold me on it. I'm really glad LSM has a CRPG enthusiast on the crew. more Lockmort, please!
Just want to say again that I"m glad to follow Brad here. Really enjoying the crews so far and the new episode of Constellation was awesome. Great shows!
I could listen to Lockmort talk for ages.
This is my new favorite podcast. I personally prefer game discussion over news, even though I really like hearing about gaming news. I can already feel Brad getting into a groove. This show is just going to get better and better.
Lockmort seems like a much more sincere and innocnet person than i thought he would be
I understand if parties aren't interested, but I'd love to see Brad do Let's Plays with the rest of LSM. I only say that since he's prodding and trying to entice the cohosts to get out of their comfort zone and play different games. I think doing a gaming session whenever the schedules work out would be a great addition to LSM.
I'd love to see that
I agree!!
Man, I love having Brad in the LSM ecosystem 🤙🏻
The LSM ecosystem which stretches across Console, PC, Mobile and Cloud :)
I was hoping for LSM's Frame Trap but got something even better.
Been with Easy Allies and before that GameTrailers since 2013. Really sad to see how things have gone there but really enjoying this Podcast and the LSM content in general.
Summon Sign is LSM's Brad & butter.
Micah, lock and brad have great chemistry
I just started the episode but shoutout for having the intention of being clear with spoiler warnings. The fact that every other podcast throws spoilers out without care is annoying
Great show! Welcome to the family Brad, best episode so far, loved the conversation! Had lots of fun listening to you guys. Love from Portugal *

Thanks for being a real CRPG enjoyer, Lockmort. We really need to rise up
Hope to see more Lockmort on this and constellation!
15:20 “I can’t handle Japanese people yelling at me all the time”
We need a Lockmort’s edit of a bunch of Lockmorts talking to each other.
We learned lockmorts canon event this episode
Brad + Micah is one of my new favorite dynamics on LSM
I like this Brad fellow. Vibes are good

Micah is so based. But also scary. Wet socks? Come on.
I love that intro bass riff
