Listen... I know this will sound harsh but, imagine a scenario if you will - your grand grand grandfather gets magically resurrected. Rough, tough guy from another time, hands with the texture of sandpaper. He comes to visit you, get know his blood. He enters the living room, finds you holding a controller and playing a classic d&d rpg game... okay the kid is little weird, he likes his dragons and wizards and whatever right? Now imagine, you are playing jrpg/anime dweeb crap, I mean... the dude will just walk out and pretend you don't exist right? Adult man, playing with dolls? And can you blame him? As of recent we've become very forgiving towards the dweeb folk, very tolerant, but maybe we shouldn't be? I mean it's okay, nothing wrong with it. Just like there's nothing wrong with being like mr. Hands from that famous internet video (well aside from dying), but come on... stigma is not always a bad thing, if you like anime and jrpg games you should feel deep crippling shame. I like classic fantasy and I'm not very proud of it, it's embarrassing actually, but if you are a grown ass man and final fantasy games are something you hold on a pedestal, you are about 10 times more embarrassing than I am, so please - never again look down on me, you f*in dweeb ;)
Aloy is the very least of my issues with Forbidden West. I loved Zero Dawn but for me Forbidden West was just tremendously underwhelming on so many levels. I have no distinct or memorable moments/memories from Forbidden West besides the amazing graphics. I felt as though it fell apart as a videogame on a fundamental level. Not enough innovation in regards to its gameplay. It was obvious to me that Forbidden West was held back from its full potential due to being on the PS4. All of the weaknesses from the first game they seemed to double down on (a similar problem Spider-Man 2 had). Wasn't a fan of the story/ future story of the franchise. It never "felt right" to do side missions because of the high stakes of the main story. The progression/skill trees didn't feel meaningful. Getting the flying mount at the VERY END of the main quest was a mind boggling decision. EVEN the Hunting Grounds were worse in Forbidden West, whereas in the first game the Hunting Ground helped to teach the player good strategies in regards to effectively using weapons. I could go on.
I love this show but I'm always kind of disappointed on how the social issues are discussed and I was here as well. It feels like this discussion was 5+ years late. I remember all of the talk about replacing characters with different races but... were there ever really any examples of that? I remember most discussion at the time revolved around Marvel, but it became clear those were mostly bad faith, because most characters that replaced another character (Miles Morales as Spider-man, as an example), actually were new characters. They were just taking that role. Even in the James Bond case, I don't think it was going to be a woman literally being James Bond, but just another character taking up the 007 position. Which leads me to my issues with these discussions. Is that it seems like everyone is assuming good faith in this discussion. Colin almost had it, when he was talking about how a lot of the discussion almost seems like people are just being racist. That's because they are. There's a lot of people who are racist and try to create more palatable versions of their issues to get people on their side. They don't do it nefariously or anything, but it's just how the human brain works when trying to convince others to share your viewpoint. You think of how you can most easily get them to agree with you, even if only slightly. Same thing with the mention of the RUclipsr taking Colin out of context. Any type of drama content on RUclips is purely to get clicks. I don't know why there would be any assumption that the person Colin was talking about actually cared about being accurate. They wanted to generate views. I understand there are exceptions to the view baiting, like this channel and many others, but the drama stuff I have yet to really see someone that isn't baiting lol. This comes into the Sweet Baby discussion to. Like, why doesn't Brad like them? What have they really done? I could see disliking the individual people, because they were pretty abrasive on Twitter or something a while back, but quite frankly that reading is even missing a lot of context. As far as the work they do, what "ideology", as Colin said, have they ever inserted into anything? It feels like a misunderstanding of what they do. They mostly do passovers of games to make sure people haven't put anything that might cause controversy in them. Look at the games they've worked on. They run a WIDE gamut of topics styles so I'm not sure what you really pin on them as having done. There's also always this desire to treat both sides as equal, both in validity of arguments and in quantity of people on each side. Like the replacing characters with different races. I distinctly remember most people being against it. There were some people arguing for it, but even then it was more just saying it wasn't a big deal than like a "we SHOULD swap people out" thing. Same thing happened when discussing Stellar Blade. A select few people actually had issue with Eve. Most discussion from the American left was responding to the right insisting that Eve was how women should be in games, and that was something that was in fully force. Denigrating other games and acting like women always need to be for the purpose of men in games. (Also noting, they did that thing of trying to make it "palatable" by framing it as having attractive characters in games, which was never the discussion, it was always oversexualization and how pervasive it was, but even that discussion was years late. The industry has been doing a lot better the last decade). So yeah. Just wanted to throw that feedback in. Love the show when game talk is going on, or even life stuff. I feel like the political stuff misses a lot of nuance that can be frustrating.
Devs these days have no sense of imagination and creativity anymore. Everything has to be derivative of one another. Now the new trend to follow is making every horror game over-the-shoulder…

You’re missing the whole point of the culture war, it’s not about discussion. It’s about ideological subversion and creating a younger generation of nice little consumers because you and all the critical thinkers will die out one day. But the millions that replace us will be expected to consume the slop with less resistance. Either you see it or you don’t. However they will fail because the truth always wins and the youth is more based than we thought 😊
I don’t think you understand what “woke” means if you think Metaphor has anything woke in it. It’s very political but it doesn’t touch anything woke. As cool as Metaphors story is it’s kinda a mess at times unfortunately.
@@MitchellMiller1 well the term has flipped its meaning but the term still has some value, but like a lot of words these days the misuse of it is not helpful.
Actually i'd argue it's the correct interpretation of the word. "Woke" is supposed to mean the awareness of social and political issues and Metaphor deals with themes of Xenophobia but through a fantasy allegorical lens so it's actually relevant. The problem is culture warriors have distorted the meaning of that word by continuing to incorrectly use it as a buzzword for simply when women and minorities are included in any media.
Gene is a JRPG tourist. JRPGs do not need real time combat. JRPGs should be turn based. Gene needs to go back to COD and stop trying to ruin the genre.
Colin literally gives zero reason why their shouldn't be a black/asian/Hispanic James Bond, other than, he doesn't want it, and therefore it shouldn't be. Does anyone really believe Idras Elba as Bond wouldn't be better than the phone in job we've gotten lately from Craig? Oh and in subnautica, if they kept the main captian consistent character and just changed their race, that would be a no no. But isnt colin also the one who famously defended the Sarah race change in the Last of Us HBO? So was that to defend Druckman, or like many things, you shouldn't listen to anything relevant Colin says cause he has no idea how to keep a consistent position.
I love when artists from minority communities create something that is truly them. That's the best stuff. Not creating something in the framework already established by previous artists that has to play to those rules and origin

Dissapointed that Brad didnt mention Dawntrail FF14 when colin talked about uploading consciousness
I love Horizon zero Dawn and I even platinummed it. I don't know why some people cannot understand that in terms of writing and storytelling Horizon forbidden West is just a step down. I played it for 25 hours and I could not continue as I was so disinterested.
Colin needs to understand that Fallout and Madmax are just better.
Clive is a Mary Sue? Damn dude, some of the things Gene says sometimes man, I just don’t understand. Clive didn’t seem like a Mary Sue to me.
Gene has what’s called WashPo brain rot.
Yes he is the “special boy” character. Nothing i said was wrong lol
@@chriskos7868the fact that both of you think “Mary sue” is some insult and not an actual label for a type of character goes to show the level of brain rot you guys actually have.
@@GenePark Nice cope Eugene…but Clive is the son of a powerful house who did not get the eikon he was expected to have, had his family slaughtered and was a slave for a decade. This is not what a Mary Sue’s endure, someone like Rey Palpatine is a Mary Sue doesn’t have hardships to overcome, like at all. We all know what a Mary Sue at this point and it’s generally women, like it or not journalists like you have tried to gaslight it. I don’t think you know what the definition of a Mary Sue is lol
@@GenePark I’ve heard you call Clive a Mary Sue before so let’s clear it up for you, dummy. From Google: “A Mary Sue is a fictional character who is unrealistically perfect, often female, and lacks significant flaws”.
Does not qualify Clive at all but it does cover a lot of the characters you have never said this about like EVE from stellar blade or that ugly creature from Star Wars Outlaws, and we all know why you won’t lmao.
As a football fan, the jets roster has some obvious gaping holes at non high profile positions like QB and WR. Anyone with any football IQ could tell you this team, at best would be 10-7. Which may be enough to sneak into a wild card.
Why have you guys barely talked about Silent Hill 2??? That game is amazing! The most I've heard is Colin complaining about his own technical issues with it because he won't adjust the settings.
1:28:17 the first game of horizon selling so well isn’t a suprise the first game is really good. I have the 2nd one and I haven’t played it yet but from other people I’ve talked to loved the first game and then didn’t like the 2nd game. I really think the 2nd game, which also sold well, is what made people not like the series that much afterwards. What will really tell if this franchise is a good one is if the third sells well. If it doesn’t then yes imo I think the 2nd game hurt the franchise a lot.
Thing I remember most about the Chilean minors was the Jimmy Fallon show having a bunch of men dressed up as miners singing "there aint nothing finer than sex with "miner"" RUclips it fir a laugh.
Nice to see brad not butt hurt
Collin i have never related more about football. As a bears fan it's continually anxiety and disappointment. Bears on paper look amazing and coaching or whatever keeps them failing. Love this take it's hard and painful but I keep doing it lol
It’s not harsh. It’s just very strange and somehow you believe it as fact.
Has anyone else noticed how much Brad blinks?
The original until dawn is amazing, one of the best PS4 games. No idea why gene has no interest in ever playing it
I love this show but I'm always kind of disappointed on how the social issues are discussed and I was here as well.
3:24:00 Arkham Origins is a Christmas game.
Devs these days have no sense of imagination and creativity anymore. Everything has to be derivative of one another. Now the new trend to follow is making every horror game over-the-shoulder…
Damn you Gene for interrupting the Nosferatu story.
Also, Colin, you're supposed to sit out front of your house to hand out the candy if you're in a busy neighborhood - enjoy it!
Gene wanted Silent Hill 2 Remake to be terrible that he is having a painful time praising it, there is always a backhanded comment after the praise.
I don't really understand calling Metaphor "Good writing". It's just as ham-fisted, melodramatic and lacking nuance as other Atlus games, and JRPGs in general. It doesn't tackle the themes with any subtly at all.
I don’t get the alloy doesn’t have a personality. She grew up an outcast, turns out she is essentially the savior of the world, she’s in a unique position of importance she doesn’t have the ability to not focus her task at the time. But she’s interested in knowledge though. She wants to know about who she comes from and what the old world was like.
I agree with you on some things being classified "woke" way to fast, but Salim was the first one to say his game didn't sell because of racists, and has refused to go on other podcasts with opposing viewpoints. Please show me the people who were saying they weren't buying it because of black characters and not because it was on the SBI list.
The Venn diagram between those two reasons is a circle.
The game didn’t sell because it wasn’t compelling. SBI association didn’t help. Racism is an excuse.
I mean all the people calling his studio spearchucker studios. Or the long list of twitter people saying they don’t want to play that nword vania game.

Maybe it’s because the term “woke” as it is used today is nonsensical in the first place.
@@MitchellMiller1 well the term has flipped its meaning but the term still has some value, but like a lot of words these days the misuse of it is not helpful.
Nah I’m not going to be preached and psy op’s about racism again.
@@battlep0t That was my point.

Idras Elba would have been a great James Bond. They really dropped the ball.
To Colin, Druckmann can do no wrong.
As long as they keep him male and straight he can be whatever race they want.
The problem is that once the race swap occurs, there will be a shitstorm if they tried to make him white again. Would you be fine with a white Nick Fury after Samuel L Jackson? Probably not, because you’re a dishonest hack

Horizon is fine, but it is also the worst of the recent playstation exclusives. Aloy as a character is really bad, I really couldn't give less of a fuck about her or her journey. The story is absolute nonsensical bargain bin sci-fi garbage. Gameplay is whatever, it's serviceable I guess. Visually the game is gorgeous and there's some cool visual design in the game, but other than that it's just bland. I really don't understand why Colin has such a hard-on for this franchise in particular, but to each his own I guess.
Who said anything about being antogonistic? I'm a troll. I make things interesting. The whole point of my persona is to get people to react and to also know not a thing about me.
