i was a valkyrie fan for a year now, and it's honestly so sad to go and listen to old solos... even though they sound so majestic, it's melancholic and depressing, ESPECIALLY knowing the lyrics. old valkyrie (both with them all 3, when there was nazuna and shu, and +/- before acanthe or even the tale of antiques) have gone through so much, and it reflects in lyrics of ex-valkyrie songs and first solos. for example, in this one, mika almost endlessly repeats words of being a puppet, mentions strings etc. the melody is dramatic, i'd said even sad. the card (even tho it isn't actually approved canonically but we will think that it is) is all in blue shades, the background, light, the butterfly theme (which is a also a symbol for death in japan). by that time, they were still trapped deep inside their minds, and mika was still being seen as doll, both by shu and himself. it also follows lines in cloth waltz. sure, shu was already making some progress and had more love for mika, he cared for him but... the whole text just screamed that he haven't stopped of thinking of his partner as puppet. beautiful puppet. something he'd protect, until it won't fall apart. shu was too immature to understand. it was really a castle build of sand, were he was a king, and his mates were only dolls, with who he was playing with, hoping it will last forever. i was extremely glad when the tale of antiques come out, as valkyie was confronted by df, they finally started to realise their problems more seriously, and take them, too. acanthe was a total breaking point, but i'm convincied the start was where i just said. now, i was listening to new solos and... what can i say? they're amazing. it was like the pure happines was poured on me like a rain. the mika's solo was for me the best part, as it started showing us how much he gone as a an own person, a human. in new story it was claimed for him to want to partically separate from teach, to do art he likes. in machina shu even praises his artwork. so, in old solo we were shown mika, still influenced my shu and his interests and opinion on him, while in new solo we were shown him as his own person with his own interests and likes, how he's more complicated than he was used to be presented as. i love that we can see the path he's gone in all these years to this point. of course, i'm not forgetting shu. he's also grown so, so much. from the first time i saw him in anime, i was like "he's actually such a nice person, i like him!". and now i'm proud to say that yes, he definetely is. of course, he's still as rude sometimes and as egoistic, but on inside shu is so kind. not ex-valkyrie type of kind-obssesion to nazuna. different type of kind, where there's affection and actual love. to mika. he understands his past mistakes and sees mika as actual partner: an equal, even, not a failure nor dissapointment. my probably one of the favorite lines in new solo is "the breath of admiration during the interlude, to the eyes that feel the emotion, let that emotion become a tribute to the "the unstoppable beat of the soul", as if it refers to mika, and shu's new opinion on him. he wants for mika to become something more than he used to be, and is also proud for him to be who he is now, who he grow to be. following lines contribute the same thing as i wrote earlier: "fi it means to be born as a human being, know it here and now and accept it sweetly, this beautiful "echoes of the moment and the eternal encounter". he deeply cares for his co-member, no matter what. in song (and in few stories, too), shu mentions that "being human is what binds us together", which means that they're no longer a doll and it's owner. they're alive, and they're persons. they love eachother as people. in general, i'd love to talk about them, past, thir present and future for eternity, their solos, finding each listening something new, a detal that got unnoticed in past, more context, more understanding of their relationship and many, many more things... valkryie is fantastic, their performances and music are spectacular, they're wonderful and unique in their own meanings. they're different, yet, they still found love, understanding and comfort in eachother. i love valkyrie.
1:57 the way mika sings katachi is so angelic and somewhat full of sorrow, its as if hes singing it with a bittersweet smile on his face, a sad expression
