  • Using a number of different examples, this video explains the procedure for solving numerical questions involving the concepts of deadweight, TPC (Tonnes per centimeter), and reserve buoyancy in the area of ship stability.
The video also explains the different terms used in the questions solved. A total of 5 different questions has been solved in this video.
Terms discussed include: displacement, load displacement, light displacement, density, water plane area, coefficient of fineness of water plane area, block coefficient, TPC, reserve buoyancy, underwater volume, deadweight, etc.

Sir, Request if you could discuss some of the problems on topic of Floatation , mentioned in Basic Ship Theory by Rawson and Tupper.

That is all good but why should we calculate all this things unless we can use hydrostatic tables and find all unknown things ( such as Tps, DW)?

Very good presentation. Only one question which I seem to have missed. On the last two solutions, the figure of 100 came up in the calculations. TPC = A/100. Where did the 100 come from? Cheers. Stan

Hi Stan, thanks for your feedback. 100 is a constant and part of the formula.

A ship is entering a port with harbour of sp.gr of water 1.005 from sea water on a mean draught of 5.2m. TPC around 4.5-5.5m draught of the ship is 40.0t/cm. If the permissible max.draught at harbour is 4.5m,then how much deballasting the ship must carry out to entrance into the harbour of the port?
Would you please solve this question sir.
