  • At Stokley's Marine, we often get asked about the best anchor for boats in Kentucky. The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer. Here's what you need to consider:
    Factors Affecting Anchor Choice:
    • Lake or river conditions (moving water, depth variations)
    • Type of boat
    • Purpose of anchoring (short-term for swimming or overnight stays)
    Types of Anchors We Offer:
    • Navy anchors
    • Slip ring anchors
    • Fluke style anchors
    • Mushroom anchors
    • River anchors
    Key Anchoring Tips:
    Use a Chain
Add a 5-foot section of coated chain between the rope and anchor
    Benefits:
    • Protects rope from abrasion against rocks or trees
    • Adds weight to help the anchor engage with the bottom
    Proper Anchoring Technique
Let out rope equal to 3 times the water depth
    • Example: In 30 feet of water, use 90 feet of rope
This allows the anchor to engage properly as wind moves the boat
    Rope Length
We recommend a 150-foot rope section for Kentucky waters
Provides sufficient length for anchoring in up to 50 feet of water
    Releasing the Anchor
Motor over to the anchor when ready to leave
If stuck, approach from the opposite side of the wind direction to disengage
Remember, proper anchoring is crucial for both safety and convenience. Whether you're taking a quick swim or spending the night on the water, these tips will help ensure your boat stays where you want it.
