Destijds vonden we het allemaal de normaalste zaak van de wereld....maar heel Europa kwam naar de discotheken in ons apenlandje....wat een geweldige tijd....
Unfortunately for me, New Beat was just barely before my time and I'm not from Belgium. I only caught on to what New Beat was from listening to Lords of Acid in the mid 90s in the U.S. I've been a fan and a big nerd for all kinds of electronic music my whole life, from Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream onward, but something just seems so special about New Beat. The dancing, the fashion, the hypnotic music. I wish they would have put more effort into the music production side of things and carried on that whole vibe a bit further.
Part of the charm is that it was rapidly spat out and just as quickly spawned further sub-genres that evolved into the broader European dance of the 90s. A real flash in the pan sub-culture.

stil, there are hundred of new beat songs, all bangers, so many bangers im struggling to make a playlist in order by theme/melody/cover art from ''beggining'' to ''end'', so many style it's tough to make a linear sequence, too many branches, check my playlists and look for the new beat one, im confident i will get about 1000 songs or more.

I love this video only good memories, the New Beat was a very affirmative culture, but hard to accept, it was avant-garde, and long live Belgium for giving us this beautiful time ❤️
I discovered this genre during a holiday in Ibiza in the summer of 1988 thanks to the traxx "Ibiza" by Amnesia, before then I had never heard of it apart from the sound similarity with EBM, another genre between industrial and dark wave. To tell the truth, I had already heard a mix entitled "Flesh" by A Second Split a couple of years earlier, which was even defined as the forerunner of this Made in Belgium genre, but I classified it in the New Wave sound. Then between 1988/89 there was a real invasion of excellent New Beat productions
Happy i was there during that time, it was EPIC, and still is for many............ Not only fries.chocolate but also New-Beat puts us a a small country on the world.......... Now they dont make it like that anymore......
Well, i can confirm that in the end of the 80s and through the 90s, fitness clubs saw black snow because newbeat and house clubs were our new fitness clubs by dancing hooole weekend night long! :p Kids today can't imagine how big this was in Belgium, even from abroad. I miss those times :(
