The tip with the tea candle is a game changer, tried it today and it worked like a charm, its stays a liquid for several hours. Eases the workflow and saves a whole lot of money too. Thanks!
Im just getting started in photo etch and doing some research so im very pleased I found your channel. I love the way you explain and demonstrate the techniques in a clear concise way with no waffle, subscribed and looking forward to viewing more of your work.
Hey gang, are you a lover of photoetch or do you hate it! Comments, please.😉 Please consider supporting my channel with a small contribution, you can do so here: www.buymeacoffee.com/SmallSoldier It's like Patreon... but simpler. Thanks
Thank you very much for sharing your first class skills! I will also be watching your videos on painting and I have subscribed. Looking forward to more of your videos which is a must watch video to improve my skills. I have also ditched my Dremel for the Proxxon, for 4 years and no regrets.
Thanks for the PE tips. Trying to use more PE as the detail makes the model and this helps. Your work is fantastic - please continue videos on this project as I can't wait to see it progress at the hands of such a skilled artist. Also - after knocking a bottle of tamiya glue over and spilling liquid and ruining my waiting to be assembled Panzer III road wheels, I got a bonus tip - an added base for the bottle so my clumsiness does not ruin yet another kit. My replacement sprue is on backorder...
Thanks so much, Scott! Funny story, I had the very same thing happen to the road wheels of my Tamiya Matilda. I had to get another sprue and have since been using a holder I fashioned from Apoxie Sculpt as you probably noticed in the video. Cheers!
Great tips, Scott! I use wax paper cut into little squares to hold superglue. It beads up on the paper and lasts for several hours, but I like the tea candle idea better. Also thanks for your thoughts on the Proxxon. Until now I haven't heard anyone compare it with the Dremel. I guess I'll be getting me one of those! 👍
This was a great video. You have great technique and it will help me a lot in the future. I have a hate/love relationship with etched parts. when it works the results are awesome.... when not... well......
Beautiful work on the Hood. Can I ask what putty and fillers did you use, I've just ordered Amati Bismarck 1/200 and just wanted to know what putty and fillers are best. Thanks mate.
Sure. Like I said the speed dial has more versatility and having constant power is nice. I also like the balance and the way it fits my hand. It also has a chuck that accommodates bits from large to the smallest size. The Dremel has a collet system that sucks as you have to switch collets when you want to change sizes. Dremel makes you buy a expandable collet as an option which are around $30.00. So in my opinion you get more bang for your buck even though the Proxxon is more money. It cost more but well worth it. Hope that helps.
Awesome . Iwas mesmerised at your construction of the funnels. Im 60 yr old modeller and never ever tried PE before but last 2 kits ive bought ive decided to PE them 1/72 TU16 Badger C came with PE parts and ive bought Tamiyas 1/350 scale USS Enterprise CV65 this didnt come with PE but ive bought all 6 eduard Big Ed PE packs for it this includes superdetaling PE for the aircraft . do you reccommend purchasing a PE Bending station or just using the tools you have used in your video? thanks.
Thanks a lot for your kind words. Sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you with all the PE. I actually find doing PE quite enjoyable and relaxing tbh. As far as tools go if you’re going to be using a lot of PE in the future I would strongly suggest getting a decent bending brake. The Small Shop has some of the best bending tools made. The 2!I use the most are they’re 6” tool and the small one called “The Bug”. Good luck with your PE Adventures!🙂🍻
Excellent tutorial, you make it looks so easy! I'll try the candle trick out. What were you using to apply the CA glue? I find I get it everywhere, will order some de-bonder and try that out too. I guess you need to be careful to only apply a small amount or you run the risk of removing the attached photoetch? Thanks
That's awesome I hope you enjoy this great hobby. No don't paint the sheets first as the paint will either scratch or flake off. Most pieces need to be shaped, rolled or bent so the paint would be ruined. Good luck! 😉
Such a great video! ah man, this got me pumped up for my bismarck in 1/200!! Anyone got any tips on how to make those "bags" that cover the base of the gunbarrel with the turret?
Great to hear! For blast bags you could use epoxie putty and shape the folds. I'll have to do a video on how to do that in the future. You could order a set of resin ones if you have spare $$. Cheers!
Wow those were great tips, I haven't had a chance to go through your channel yet but do you have any videos on how to attach railings to a ship. Im a 1/700 modeler and brass railings have been the bane of my existence and would take my modeling sills up to infinity and beyond lol thanks.
Good question. I use the regular Q-tip brand but in extreme cases like when I need to get into tight areas these pointy ones are awesome! Tamiya makes them and they come in 2 sizes.
Thanks, bro! 😏 The candle trick is a game changer if you want to maximize your CA life. I put both into the candles, it'll help lengthen the life of both. Cheers.
@@rickmoreno6858 Sorry... lol! I use thick for some parts and thin for others. Thick or medium CA will give you a few seconds to place the part, thin is almost instant. So it depends on the situation. Does that make sense?
Yes, for the most part. I don't think you need an extensive set like the Pontos one as it's really soul-crushing when you're staring at 18 sheets of etching and bags of turned metal and resin.
The letterkenny reference was unexpected, and much appreciated.
Glad you liked it. Cheers!
Thank you!

Very impressive work Scott, those funnels look crazy good! Excellent presentation as well, you are a pro at everything :)
Thanks, my friend! Well, I figure you may as well try your best to master or mess-up as many things as possible. 😆
Learned some new tricks. Thank you!

Beautiful work on the Hood. Can I ask what putty and fillers did you use, I've just ordered Amati Bismarck 1/200 and just wanted to know what putty and fillers are best. Thanks mate.
Thanks. I use tamiya filler and Aves Apoxie Sculpt for filling most areas.
Could you elaborate on the advantages the Proxxon has over the Dremel? Thank you
Sure. Like I said the speed dial has more versatility and having constant power is nice. I also like the balance and the way it fits my hand. Beautiful work Scott first class.
My AK interactive FAQ figure painting techniques arrived last week and it's worth every penny.

Thanks! I told you you'd love it. Cheers.
Great tutorial!
Thank you! Cheers!
Crazy amount of PE there! It would be great to see a demo of aneling the next time you do a PE video.
Yes, I will do that in the next installment. Cheers!

Thanks! I use the tip of a hypodermic needle.to apply the glue. A needle works really well as an applicator.
Ca debonder is a great photo etch must have just make sure its a plastic safe one ak and there a great czech one or VMS
Yes... there's nothing more soul-crushing when a disaster like that happens.
I’m just getting into modelling would you paint your sheets of photo etch before fitting them ?
That's awesome I hope you enjoy this great hobby. No don't paint the sheets first as the paint will either scratch or flake off. Most pieces need to be shaped, rolled or bent so the paint would be ruined. Good luck! 😉

What kind of q-tips do you use? The ones I have are a) not so pointy and b) leave small strings of fabric on my model...
Good question. I use the regular Q-tip brand but in extreme cases like when I need to get into tight areas these pointy ones are awesome! Tamiya makes them and they come in 2 sizes.

Nice tips bro, going to check that teacup candle trick out. What is best CA glue to use for PE thin, or gel?

Yes. I'll show that when I get to that part of the model. Glad you liked it. Cheers!
