I am 59 and still have this very same matchbox since I was a child . it is the prize piece of my collection . It has always been my favorite. You did a great job bringing that one back.

  • @ElGatoLoco698

Your method for separating the two pieces was genius. I'm the type of person that would have torn it up trying to pry it apart. It never would have crossed my mind to attempt your technique.

Just a thought but since you are making your own decals/printed parts, how about printing the donors names either as one side of a decal set or as a 3d name plate as a thanks to the donor? You could ask your commentators what they think before going ahead if you like the idea . Have a laughter filled holiday.

Marty you make my day. I love watching your program I like the way you throw in some comedy with the restoration of cars of my childhood. I had a friend whos dad was in the military and he sent him new cars every week or so. He had about 300 cars, trucks, tractors, heavy equipment, and other matchbox"s. We would build hole city's We spent weeks and weeks building them. Thank You for bringing back the memorys of 50+ years ago.

What a lovely old bus. I grew up in Coventry where Daimler were based, and these buses would frequently be seen being tested whilst still minus their bodywork, the drivers wrapped head to toe in thick clothing to protect them from the cold.

restoring things is always great fun!!
I restored my first antique violin today mostly exterior wear and tear and I'm pretty pleased with the result the paint job had gone dark and misty but after a thorough polish, it now shows the almost crystalline woodgrain again sparkling in the light when you move it also re-glued all the parts that were loose like f.i. the neck, now for a cello!!

My first Matchbox Car was a garbage truck. My grandmother (she was from the Seneca tribe, and was 98 at the time... she lived to be 114) She tried to give me this toy garbage truck... my brother and myself both, she would try to give us matchbox cars, and we were always taught to be polite, and not take advantage of our grand mother, so we politely declined the gift.... so in order to convince us to take the toys, she took a penny, and stuck it into the back of the garbage truck, and then showed me how when the box of the truck was lifted, it would push the penny out with the compactor.
Well, I was a five year old, and starting my Jewish learning, so a penny in the Matchbox toy... that changes EVERYTHING!
To this day, I have fond memories of that Matchbox garbage truck... and that little compactor that would push things out when it was lifted, and my hope is to some day see you do a restoration of one. I haven't seen one of them since I was a small child though.
I want to thank you for your channel, however... as a model railroader, I have used a number of your tips and tricks, and I look forward to each and every one of your episodes.

Great build! Yes, JB Weld is amazing stuff. I patched a Honda Shadow master cylinder with it and it held like a champ for years. And yes, at least in the US, we call those "cotter pins". That was a bit of brilliance to figure out that was the right shape off-the-shelf part for the job. :-) Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, Marty!

Hi Marty. Your videos are great and have inspired me to give it a go. Just a tip on this MB 74 bus model which makes things easier is that if you put a small screwdriver through the rear lower deck window and push up against the upper deck body, the rivet comes apart with a little force, but also in most cases allows the model to be press refitted later without glue. This is much easier than drilling a hole and refilling it.
