I am not a gold bug either. I am a fan of evidence based investing. When presented with evidence that since we were removed from the gold standard, gold has outperformed cash, the 10 year US Treasury, and emerging market equities, while providing significant diversification benefits, I am compelled to believe the evidence. But these companies on TV and in newsletters who believe we should have all our assets in gold are nuts IMO or feeding on the fear of people. That's why I produced this video. There are many types of assets that are sensible for a portfolio in the right allocation.
@@seetheforestthroughthetrees Absolutely, I am a simple Boglehead Couch Potato Portfolio Investor. ( Two low-cost index funds.) This makes it easier for my wife should I pass away first. There are no absolutes for investing, only differing ways to hedge and manage uncertainty with the best outcomes known only to the future self.
Simplicity and automation are really important as we age. One of the biggest risks as we age is if one spouse solely manages the family finances. Creating a 9-1-1 plan as I call it can really help. It spells out where financial accounts are held, what the goals and strategy is for the accounts and who important financial contacts are. It can really help the surviving spouse in a time of trauma... Without it, someone that isn't as well versed may get taken advantage of.
