I'm glad people are giving 5sos the recognition they deserve, it's also widely accepted amongst 5sos fans that this is better than the studio version. Also their new album CALM just came out, if you like this you'll probably like that too.
Yeah this version is definitely my favorite and it's way more 5SOS ish than the original and they definitely add more of this style live for almost every song so they're really great live
I feel like the vault versions are 5sos doing what they actually want to do without having that pressure to stay pop. There is so much more freedom than the other versions
"We've been deprived of really good music because artists forced to make pop" - yes, so true and sometimes it's physically hurts when restrictions fall on your favourite band
Every single word you said here is my opinion too... Just one thing: it wasn't like Charlie gave them this song to play it. They actually wrote it together. They have written like 99% of all songs they have. So just for the record😅
They definitely have songwriting credits on Easier and every song they ever did. Easier was written by watt, Ali Tamposi, Louis Bell, Charlie Puth, Calum, Ashton, Luke, Michael and Ryan Tedder.
@@Bri.Sina143 They definitely do not have songwriting credits: www.ascap.com/repertory#ace/search/workID/897400286 ; and it is so obviously to hear Charlie Puth's influence on the song, they had 0 input whatsoever
I'm a music producer as well and my mind was BLOWN AWAY when I listened to this version, it is just so much MORE! The level of production on this one 🔥 OMG! You just feel it more, idk, it just vibes more. And the fact that they play this live just gives me life! I mean, I absolutely adore the pop version, if fits mainstream radio very well and what people listen to these days, and that gives them so much more exposure. But it felt waaaay too Charlie Puth-y, after just one listen, I KNEW that he had something to do with this song. And this version just feels fuller and I'm here for it! Anyways, if you liked this, you should really check out their song Teeth, both studio version and The Vault version. They're both amazing!
I've ALWAYS said that the studio version of Easier sounds like a Charlie Puth song on someone else's album, even if the band did help write it. This version is so different and I think it fits their sound a lot more.
Your rant about pop vs rock on the radio is dead on and exactly how I feel. 5SOS have done 'Vault' versions for 3 of their songs off CALM and the way Ashton the drummer explains it is that these are the versions that the songs are meant to be live, and the way they translate the pop sound into a live experience with much more grit. The reason I love this version more is because it reminds me of the bands I used to listen to in middle school back in the early 2000's when rock/ punk rock/ alternative were actually more mainstream and popular. It's sad that most current rock bands in order to stay relevant have to add a "pop" flair to their music like Maroon 5 or Imagine Dragons in order to have a wider audience which ultimately diminishes their original sound. The only way to hear what they really sound like is to go to a show. I can't wait for you to react to the 'Youngblood' album, it is to this day one of the best I've ever heard. Alongside this, also check out the "Youngblood LIVE" album where you'll hear how they translate the songs live. Hope to see you at a show! Welcome to the 5SOS fam
So true that’s why I get a little upset at those saying 5SOS is only pop now and their stuff is water down and they aren’t . Some songs that may have some pop influences is mixed well with rock and sounds better then some bland pop repeating songs you hear on the radio. But songs like easier and teeth are ones made for playing live the edge they have in the original song isn’t half of what it is live. People that critic rock groups that are in a pop dominated radio waves now sometimes don’t know what they are talking about and it shows they fully don’t watch interviews and see lives shows to understand the full pictures.
Ahh, yeah. I absolutely love this heavier, gritty, more rock version of 5SOS’s music. They would be my favourite band if they always did this kind of music. And the bass is just so good, wish they weren’t forced to make it more pop to stay relevant
yeah you’re dead on with the pop thing, 5sos definitely wants to use more drums and guitar but they’re not allowed to strictly because it won’t get played. that’s why any live song of theirs has 10x more guitar than the studio version
I absolutely hear where you're coming from that the release of Easier sounds way more fit to pop radio than this live version, and seeing them perform live 13 times now and always notice how the live versions of the songs sound a lot more rock or punk influenced than what the studio version ended up sounding like. they go a lot harder on the instrumentals and it's really amazing to see, but I for sure think they are pushed to tone those down for their studio recordings, especially singles they plan to market for the radio. I think one way they kinda get around this is by putting out live albums, they have 2 so far, LIVESOS and Meet You There Tour Live. this way they can still put out something for the fans that is less pop driven and highlights their rock and punk influences, as well as their incredible skills as musicians. it could be cool to see you to react to one of their live albums, maybe even point out any differences you notice. I know you did Youngblood, and Meet You There Tour Live was the tour after that release. idk i'd find it interesting though!
your point about how bands have to add a pop flair to their music to be more successful and mainstream was *so* true. 5sos want more guitar and drums in their songs but they're not allowed to which is why their live performances are so much more 5sos-ish instead of the official audios. Massive thank you for this!!
There are three Live From the Vault tracks and they are the bonus tracks on the Target version of their new album, CALM! It's not the same as the songs actually being on the album, but it's better than nothing! Also, if you want to check out more of their stuff, they have a song called Wildflower and the bassist (and lead vocals of that particular song) has a short little video breaking down the production a little bit that you might be interested in.
This is how they play it at the live shows. They give us the darker more rock sounding version live and the actually song is more pop so it appeals better to radio.
Omg i am with you on everything you said it just hits you right there in your soul love it and them you should listen to teeth by them its amazing!!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
This is exactly what I think, I can't believe this is my exact same theory event though I know so little about the music industry, they said they were kind of aiming for an industrial sound and that they had inspired from bands like nine inch nails and then the album came out sounding very different from what I thought, I think teeth was closer to that, but listening to the vault versions I had 0 doubts that's what they originally wanted and for obvious reasons couldn't do if they want to be on the radio and basically be relevant in the charts, it breaks my heart that they have to follow these requirements in order to keep making music, now something I'm really proud of is that they still give us s little bit of their true sound on the live shows, that's why we appreciate Live albums so much, if the whole album was produced like the vault versions it would be amazing. Love them regardless of those things.
I LOVE how happy watching this made you! I had the exact same reaction the first time (20 times) I watched it. This version is *incredible* and just hits so much harder than the album version.
I actually agree with him when he's talking about preferring this version. This version is dirty; It's raw and real and not that Pop-py and it makes you just want to react. It hits something in you that the original doesn't and I love both versions but this just .. "hits different".
Just gained a new subs!! I recommend reacting to CALM their new album and im interested if you do like tutorials, tips on how to start producing music.
OH MY GOSH....I thought I listened to the vault version but apparantly I did not because as soon as it started I got SHOOK *pausing video now to go watch it (mouth still hanging open)*
I would definitely recommend you listen to their other albums oldest to newest, but I feel like as a producer you'll appreciate Youngblood (their previous album) the most
also, I have a question (or two) (and I'm sorry in advance because I won't be able to put it into words eloquently lmao): how was this sound made that starts at 6:17 in the background (hits again at 6:40)? and then the sound that kinda pulses through 6:30-6:38 ? I'm *guessing* it's an electric guitar in both places, but how was this pulsing effect made? I want to know because it gives me LIFE 😂

They did one for Teeth too which is also amazing. That live bass (which was already an awesome bass line) with no synth on top is incredible.
And then I went on your page and saw that you already did it... 😂
THE BASS IN THIS VERSION IS SPECTACULAR
