my goal for this year is honestly just _read_ because I've read so little in the last two years that I no longer feel like i even qualify as a reader. because of some people I know and respect saying reading goals killed true reading spirit and if you were really a reader you would just read without having to worry about filling a quota, I got it in my head that I should be able to read without keeping any kind of log or goal of the books I read because true readers didn't need stuff like that. 🙄 I can't believe I bought that idiocy. unfortunately it meant that last year I read at most 10 books (I actually don't even know of this is accurate because I didn't keep track of them) which is unheard of for me. I learned that there are different kind of readers and I definitely need the motivation of a reading goal to actually get to reading and that doesn't make me less of a reader. so yeah, I'm back on the reading goal train with a conservative 50 books!
If you read books even if only rarely, you are a reader. Gatekeepers are just miserable people and you should ignore them!
Do what makes you happy!! I love to track my books. I have a goal but it’s something reasonable but also not something that I let stress me out. Reading should be fun and so should the goal. ❤
I set my reading goal at 100 this year, to encourage myself to spend less time on screens and more time on pages. I want to read more by minority authors, more non-fiction and 4 ancient classics this year.
My physical TBR is about 250 (I'm basically a book goblin) so I'm hoping most of my reading will be from there. 😊
Ahhh. The BooktubeSFF Awards. Those were good times! 😁
I always set a goal for 12 books a year, so on average, 1 book a month. I always end up reading more, but this helps keep me motivated and on track.
I'm excited to hear your thoughts on Projections!
it looks soooo good
My reading goal for the year is to read 25 books. I haven't been reading a lot since the middle of 2023 as I've been focusing more on writing, but I want to get back to it. My physical TBR is a mountain at this point 😅
My reading goals are to read books I ACTUALLY want to read. Meaning books I feel might be 5 stars to me. Also Im doing a quarterly tbr, instead of monthly.
And Im including at least 1 finance book per month. Im not sure how many series I will do.
There is a book coming out in a day or so called Sands of Elysium A Knight of Sol. Looks interesting, its a book about mad max, elves, and sun worshipping knights.
Just finished Way of Kings this weekend after staring at it for 2 years and really enjoyed it! This sparked my desire to catch up on the cosmere prior to release of Stormlight 5 in December. That’s 13 books/novellas in all including the secret projects and a reread of Lost Metal at the very end. I read all of Mistborn without reading any other cosmere so I know Lost Metal will need a reread to fully get all the crossovers in that book.
So if I can do 1 cosmere novel/month or 2 novellas, I should be able to catch up 🤞🤞
ETA: my general book goal is 50 books or 20k pages. Also I want to prioritize my book subscription books too. I’ve gotten far far behind on them.
i read the entirety of the released stormlight archive books last year for the first time, so it's totally doable!!! they just read so fast
having to reread previous books in a series just to continue on with the series is the bane of my existence
I re-read WoK on audio already and may just continue with the series that way or switching between audio and physical because I quite liked it
10 books would be incredible! I really need to whittle down my physical tbr 😬
My reading goal for this year is 40. So far I have read 5 books.
This is on my reading list so far, and I will update it as I read books
Beartown series by Fredrik Backman (currently reading first book in this series)
•Beartown
•Us Against You
•The Winners
The Atlas Of Us by Kristin Dwyer ( currently reading as well)
The Inheritance Game series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
•The Inheritance Games
•The Hawthorn Legacy
•The Final Gambit
A Tempest Of Tea by Hafsah Faizal
Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Abike - Iymide.
Happy 2024 reading and I end my comment with this famous quote
. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies.” - George R. R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons.
My goals are usually about making sure I read at least a little outside my usual couple of subgenres - so I’ve got some classics lined up, some lit fic, nonfiction, etc. I’m mostly a mood reader but if I let myself do 100% mood reading I tend to miss out on some things!
good for you! I can be guilty of that too.
I would love to prioritise my tbr but I've made a stupid bet to read most of Brandon Sanderson's backlog, including wheel of time 😅
I’m hoping to reduce my physical TBR this year too but realized this month that lots of them are denser fantasies and I don’t always have the brainpower for those. Hopefully still manageable over the course of a year though.
My goal is to read more nonfiction. I have a ton of history books on my physical tbr that I need to start getting through.
Have you read danmei before?! I think you would love so many of them!
Did you see what came out about the voting for the Hugo’s? Think they will change anything to prevent it for next year?
I think this was a location specific problem tbh because of where it was set and the government inherently being involved.
My goals are 52 books, 20k pages, 20% non-fiction, and trying to make a dent in my TBR (lolololololol).
good luck!
