My sledge arrives tomorrow. Your videos set the standard for sensible upgrades and changes to make this sled a quality and fun truck to bash around with.
Thanks for the information. Here in Germany, the first drive schaft pins are coming out. So it wasn't just the US batch, the whole production is not good.
For the inner suspension pins, the X-Maxx (#7741, #7740) pins are the right diameter but wrong length. My local HobbyTown Cincinnati tipped me off to this. I needed to cut the longest pin down to fit. I've done this repair twice now, because I've rammed my front left tire into a post twice. But now I have part #9541 in hand, if I break any more. Glad to see more and more parts becoming available. With modification, the X-Maxx shock caps can work for the front Sledge shock caps. My local hobby shop jury-rigged on for me. The Sledge shock caps are now available.
Cool, good to know. I'm hearing that some Arrma pins fit the inner as well. I dont mind having to trim them, just do a few in advance and you're good to go
Good minds think alike. If I. Am to say so .. but I use halk saw to cut bolts... When you heat them up curing that way. You lost your grade 8+ bolt to less then 8 because you lost the temper heating up and not diping it in oil to keep it a grade 8+. Just My Thoughts. Or fyi. Have fun.
Found another issue. Check you lower shock mount screws. I installed the aluminum spring retainers and found one arm where the screw goes in was stripped out from factory. Only one arm, and at least a longer screw can be used with a nut on the end, but reaching out to Traxxas for a new front right arm.
Nice to see the hinge pin 'mod' is working...and, STRONGLY hoping it continues to work (and, if it doesn't, I'm sure you'll let us know). As for the motor "heat" matter, my eventual plan is to replace the Traxxas electronics with Castle (even have the ESC/motor combo already saved in an Amain 'wishlist'. Unfortunately...for a GOOD reason...it now looks like I'll have to postpone purchasing the Sledge for another 1-2 months. Why? Because I'm about to leave a Toyota dealership with a 2020 RAV4 LXE.
Same, fingers crossed but so far zero pin movement and Traxxas just sent me two more axles to try out. Congrats on the new ride! The Sledge will look good in the back, Lol
@@rcilluminati26 Yeah...along with a half-dozen on-road & off-road race vehicles, at least a dozen on-road & off-road bashers, a half-dozen race boats, a half-dozen non-race boats, a half-dozen crawlers...plus a helicopter, and a drone (trying to thing of I 'missed' anything...lol). Guess you can see why a Prius was no longer "big enough"
Hey Tom, Im sitting with the exact same problem right now, after I fixed the axel in the dogbone that I posten about on facebook that you saw I broke my 2 front pins but my back ones still holds up, in the back I think rpms for xmaxx will fit but the front are just 49mm so there Im trying to find another solution cause there are no pins to get here in sweden either for it and as you said I wouldnt buy them anyway, but I found that Arrma Kratons are 46mm and they are the closest I have found and I think it will be enough for me to getting it fixed, hoppfully I get them tomorrow. Thnx for another great video.
@@rcilluminati26 no the pins is the outer ones exacty like yours but mines are in the front. The other thing I talked about was the inner axle pin that goes thru the dogbone, that one I did like you, chisel and some metal epoxy. I did send you a pic on fb this morning for my hinge pin solution tho.
Definitely would love to see the track videos, that's what I'm looking for. I have a V2 Maxx and do pretty darn good on the track but want something more suited. Any input on how you felt about the track ability?
It def has great track potential, its very well balanced. I'm planning on trying some different wheels/tires more suited for that. I'll post a vid as soon as I can test it out
I saw that GPM makes Front & Rear medium carbon steel outer pins for the Traxxas Sledge. I was wondering if you tried them yet. I was thinking of getting them but wanted your opinion first. They come in the OEM size and 4mm.
Hey man nice video and awesome fix. How are your drive shaft modifications working? You went over what you were going to try on a previous video but you didn't say anything about them since.
I wouldn't bother with a warranty for an arm. From what I've seen, nobody is breaking the arms, its always the pins. If you smash into something and snap an arm, its your fault anyway, they will most likely deny the claim.
I broke an arm and snapped that little shoulder pin yesterday as well , I’ll be taking a trip to Fastenal to see what they have in m4 m5 shoulder bolts.
Dude, you are a cornucopia of information with this damn Sledge...
Much appreciated!
WORD!
Thanks man, just trying to get it dialed

Wow, sorry but good to know. Hopefully they fix them and send out new ones. Let them know

The dogbone pin issue has been solved for me. In another vid I showed what I did with loctite. So far about 10-12 packs through and zero movement
Front stock pins still holding up OK?
Yes, the second set they sent me were fine.
Nice way to void warranty
