"Let's consider the butterfly. One of the most taxing movements in sports, the butterfly requires greater energy than bicycling at 14 miles per hour, running a 10-minute mile, playing competitive basketball or carrying furniture upstairs."
Run vs. Swim? Statistician Says The Score Is In
www.nytimes.com/1993/04/21/hea...
"DR. HOWARD WAINER, a swimmer and statistician at the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J., first began wondering if runners spend energy as efficiently as swimmers when he was an undergraduate in the early 1960's, and used to argue with his runner friends over whose workout was harder."

***** Yeah I know
Swimming!!! I suck at running. I saw a quote... “Swimmers are like turtles. We are fast in the water but when we run, it’s just not gonna happen” ahaha that’s so me 😂
I use to be a very fast runner but the more I swim the slower a runner I seem to become haha
Consider me a frog, then. I swam competitively for many years then quit and became a hurdler 😁
If you do a decent amount of dry land you won’t have this problem
Im a good swimmer and run a mile in 5:25
I can do both? But ok

I have been swimming for ten days. I pushed myself to swim one mile the third day in one and one half hours. I swam one mile in one hour today. I have lost seven pounds, and I am not starving myself. This is a super great exercises. I feel great too! I am almost as old as dirt, and if I can do it you should try it.
Bumpride rolling ya because with swimming you can eat all you want and not get fat
Bumpride rolling problem is, I don't have a heated pool ANYWHERE near where I live, and it's late fall/early winter right now
I swam a mile in 9 minutes..ur not a competitive swimmer are u? Cause one mile should never be over 13 minutes in swimming
Bianca Fernandez bullshit if you swam a mile in 9 mins you would be first place gold medalist at the Olympics with a world record
Bianca Fernandez youre clearly not a competitive swimmer either. The guy also said he's a recreational swimmer (great for him!! I hope he keeps it up) so learn to read before you comment dumb things
10 minute mile is actually not that hard.. actually it is quite slow...
UnknownStuff yeah if it was running a six or five minute mile then it would probably be more physically taxing
@@kadenrapoza4120 exactly. I run a 6:30 mile, however i feel like im still slow...
Dont worry you'll get there i started running with a 8 minute mile and now its 4:50
Yeah I do 6:30 miles and I know a sixth grader that does 5:50 miles
Lol I got a 12 min mile 💀💀 I can’t do long distance
Swimming all the way for me.
Running kills me, I feel like I'm dying and going to collapse.
Swimming is calming and when I get tired, I can just float and relax.
I guess that depends on the build of the person. And I am neither race so there's that :P
jackendy cherenfant ethnicity.... lol. Its in the genes, wich dictate your body density, africans a more likely to be denser, therefore it is harder to swim... but saying it like you did sounds stupid
AShadowWolf I agree
AShadowWolf I get you, sort of, I do training though, not recreational so there is no float and relax with seconds of rest
I love swimming, when I'm tired I just sink to the floor and die.
Swimming...

2. Respiratory workout

Public pools are disgusting. I got diarrhea from swimming in them. But then again you can't get a 300 ft private pool for yourself. So, running is better.
+carolina rodriguez Drawbacks
1. Waking up at 5 am
2. It is hard and exhausting
Swimming by far! I am a competitive swimmer and have tried so many other sports (including cross country running) and have never been in as great shape as I am now because of swimming.
"Runners can usually go for longer distances"
Yeah sure i wonder why hah try swimming 200m butterfly as fast as you can while both your coach and your parents are screaming at you and you are choking on water, struggling to breathe and slowly passing out but you know that you need to finish the race
Sounds like you don't enjoy it. Try running!!
ChoosinUsername 😂😂
Accurate
200m anything is tough swimming probably insane
I already die with the 100m butterfly
Swimming FTW! When I was a kid and swam all the time I was ripped as heck and I ate whatever I wanted. When I stopped swimming I got fat. Now that I'm swimming again, I'm losing weight and more importantly, inches off my body. My knees are screwed so I can't run unless I'm on a treadmill, and I find it so boring that I'd rather swim. I put those earplugs in, and my whole body just relaxes and gets in the zone for my me time. I imagine that's how runner's feel, but I always feel like I'm going to die when I run.
Beth Ann is it true that we can lose weights with swimming?
wissem Abdessmad Have swimmer since being 5 and now 18. Im talking as an competitive swimmer but yes it uses up lots of calories and you will lose weight.
can i lose 10 kg in 2 months ?
thnx :)
wissem Abdessmad Depends on your effort. You can't eat unhealthy. Well you can but just sometimes.
okey ty so much i appreciate that
I like running...but my body does not.

try to run with friends
RRGeada hehehe... friends. I fail to understand such concept.
TheNunoTubes Dogs are friends too =P
RRGeada Let them carry you around, right?
Why doesn't anyone here like running :(
Sioy I do
Ikr
Running is hard on the joints. Swimming is great for folks with arthritis.
I used to run (and also played soccer) in my younger days. Now I swim laps instead. I get the same high from swimming as I did from running or playing soccer.
Swimming I find more challenging because there is always room for improvement. So much out there to learn and master to become an efficient swimmer.
I doooo :(
I do
I prefer running. Both are great, but running is more accessible than swimming.
If you live inthe country side, just go to a local lake than a pool 😂
😠😠
I have a pool in my backyard and its like 100 degrees here every day so actually swimming is more accessible for me!
Swimming is life
I love swimming but if it was more accessible to everyone like it is in running where you can challenge anyone it would be 5× better
If I were Jesus I would run on water, twice the exercise right?
XD That would be correct, sir.
Great idea.
If you were Jesus you would also die a virgin
juandeldiablo696 Jesus was a virgin, where does it say that in the bible?
jackendy cherenfant He may of actually married: www.patheos.com/blogs/markdroberts/series/was-jesus-married-a-careful-look-at-the-real-evidence/
I personally preffer swimming since it is much less-harmful for the joints. It builds more muscle in the upper body, makes you much more flexible and if you are still growing, increases growth. The feeling you get when you glide just below the surface is memorable and can't be compared with running. Also since you are in a cold environment there is a lower chance of body overheating!
Daniel Dimov if you are sprinting and doing it properly then flying phase is most memorable you are barely touching ground. 😍
ohmy FLY But still it apllies stress on you joints.
Daniel Dimov and you say swimming doesn't apply stress? well that's physically impossible.
ohmy FLY Yes it doesn't. That's why I feel so comfortable after every session.
Daniel Dimov dude physics says stresses are applied no Matter you glide or swim.
I have been swimming for about 10 years and I LOVE IT!!! Sure my hair and skin feels like the desert, and I sometimes feel like I can't swim anymore (cough butterfly cough) I can feel myself getting stronger and better!! This has really been hard on me, but the outcome is worth it!!

There's a problem in the data used. Swimming is the obvious winner here. The data used to justify the safety, or impact, was based on a survey of runners and swimmers with problems & injuries, but the numbers are falsely elevated for swimming because when runners get injured they use swimming as a method and that's the same for age, as you get older and have more injuries you're more likely to swim instead of run. No one uses running as a form of rehab from an injury.
Jonathon Dunn not true. People who have bad shoulders might work on cardio with running and whatnot. It depends on the injury.
I always say not a good sign when we see a runner with the floats running in the pool.
You are correct. I was meaning rehab for lower injuries, although w/ my shoulder injury running is pretty brutal on it too.
Exactly. I'm using swimming now as physical therapy after my knee surgery, and it's great.
You've nailed it : )
I know it's swimming even before the video started, and I still haven't watched it yet
it's a tie but to lose weight it's swimming
its not a tie, running is bad for joints over time. swimming is goof for joints even if u already have joint problems.
eagleeye929 Running long term wears the cartilage in your knees, can cause shin splints, and damage your hips. Its the recurrent impact over time :)
But swimming can cause massive shoulder pain and can lead to injuries
funny because i have back problems and every doctor told me i have to swim
Swimming all the way
i'm like a fish out of water
Camilla Rolim how about in water XD
I'm literally turning into a fish after a 3 day championship. My skin is so dry, if you look close they look like scales. I gotta use more lotion...
You probably smell like a fish out of the water too lmao

Loveeee swimming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I swim every day for 3 hours!!!
Swimming moves all parts of the body unlike running... I love swimming
what part of the body isn't moving during running?
+EHBACON - Rocket League i think she means like all muscles in your body like your back muscles and your joints where as running is harsh on your joints
I think if done correctly, running utilize all of the muscle too.
Running for a short period of time will only exercise you leg muscles. Once you go running for a longer period of time and your legs starts getting fatigue your body well start using other muscle groups to pick up the slake. Over time you could be exercising your whole body running.

SWIMMING ALL THE WAY🏊🏼♀️🏅🏅🏅
I’m a runner, but I must admit the fact that when I did swim club I was in the best shape of my life.
Swimming is better for ppl who have back problems
That is exactly why I want to start swimming soon. My back is horrible but atm my pelvis is even worse. So I hope it'll help. Also when I run my throat often swells for some reason making it quite hard to breath >_>
Luyoka have you started swimming?
Not.
That is true as long as its not butterfly.
Saeed Shahrour unless your like me and you do butterfly though
Who here came here just because they are a competition swimmmer and wanted to see him saying swim is the best who else is a butterflyer and freestyler
me!
Lol yeah
I'm a backstroke and breats (I'm new to it started 2 days ago)
Freestyler over here !!
freestyler yay
Swimming coz u use ur entire body
Hanna Sasmiita But while running you are also using more muscles than you’d think
Mr.Infamous less muscles than swimming
Right
Same with running, but running is a tiny bit less
Mr.Infamous legs stomachs but no arms or hips
Take it from a state swimmer/track runner, SWIM IS THE BEST
I've been a swimmer for 13 years now and it's always gotten me in great shape so I'm going to have to say swimming!
A 10 minute mile... you're funny.
Lol are we walking?
Seriously, a 10 min mile is kinda sad
Steven Hankins a 10 minute mile is pretty bad. If you're in pretty good shape and run often, an 8 minute mile or less should be achievable.
haha i run 6 minute miles every day in middle school
Lulu Is on FIRE same I run a 11:42 for 2 miles in middle school
im a runner but i will admit that swimming is better for your joints 🤧
Never could do the damn butterfly.
I am an athlete. I am a runner and a strength trainer, but I love to swim. I just love to run more! I am an avid trail runner for fun, but burn up the tredmill 5 days of tge week. I would say swimming is probably much better for you, if not for your joints alone... that said, I'll stick to my daily runs because i can't get enough (ask me that 45 minutes in though...).
Swimming is harder for me and if I loved it like I do running, I'd put in the extra effort to be good at and enjoy things like the butterfly stroke, etc, but for now I'll just lace up those shoes ☺☺
Why not both though? hashtag goals
I am doing both (race and lifegarding) but something i really like about swimming is that you dont feel your sweet, i dont feel stiky. sorry for my english
that's very true and for the girly girls out there, your get a tan while your swimming so you get to get in shape and tan at the same time ;D
nadiatorgirl1868 :-) true haha
If you put in a good swimming session you'll sweat when you get out of the pool.
John Breslin yeah but who,e you're doing the exercise you won't, and that helps you focuse
Both are great sport whereas swimming whole body excise & full body water therapy fantastic

+Annabeth Jones same :D
same, breaststroker/IMer all the way
I've been swimming for years, but i'm trying to get into running
I prefer running- mainly because I'm good at it. (Not saying that swimming is bad)
Can you please tell me techniques to do running?
Aditya Paricharak still waiting
Okay, when it comes to what's easier and not, I think it's different for every person. I could easily swim 50m butterfly, but if I tried running 50m... well, I would probably lay on the ground after fifteen meters, gasping for air
??? a fifty fly literally makes me wanna die :p
lmao me too
Wow I would be dying after 15 meters of breaststroke, but can run 2 miles quite easily. So the opposite.
I feel like instead of getting a gulp of air in between strokes I would end up filling my lungs with water lol.
Jacob Delaney Yeah, I couldn't do 15 meters breaststroke either. At least now well.. My knees and breast stroke doesn't work well together
hello? 50m running is < 10 seconds lmao 50 fly takes at least 30 seconds for an avg swimmer
Swimming for me all the way... I'm quite tall and running gives me massive shin splits in addition to hurting my knees.
Rudi Delport i had the same problem. i just started landing on my forefoot instead of heel and they went away
Rudi Delport running never really happened in my entire family except one of my uncles(but he does it to be able to sleep) swimming works out the ENTIRE body, not just the legs
CJ running works out the whole body as well, it may not be nearly as taxing on the shoulder and arm areas as swimming is (clearly bc no distance runners are buff), but it definitely works your abs and back, your abdomen has to be strong to hold your body up and balance if you have proper form.
Rudi that’s because your running wrong.
Because you don’t know how to run. Lame.
triathlon guys👿🏃♀️🏊♂️🚴♀️
Swimming ftw. Doing that dive in front of ur crush is satisfactory
Run faster than anyone and ur crush is satisfactory
I lost fifteen pounds in a month from swimming 4 days a week. And I ran 2 miles everyday for a month and only lost 8 if you want to loose weight faster.. swim I recommend you swim for at least an hour each day
How about 1:45 at 5:30 am
Diddle Mcdiddlebut Yea that will work just don't overdue it or else you will hurt you muscles
+DisneyCroft 1996 my eating habits are somewhat normal I eat a lot of protein and less of bad food. If you want to eat normally and swim that is fine
i lost 30kgs by swimming
Yeah same swimming is better
10 minute mile? holy crap that is slow lol
hell yeah thats slow !!! i was the slowest person on my team and i ran 5.49
Cesar Gonzalez Sure your not thinking of km?
14 mph (22,4 kmph) cycling is also not very fast.
JohnVanHOrn Car is running 10.3 mph (16,5 kmph), which is quite fast for the slowest person on a team...
that's what i was thinking, my mile is 6:16
When i was 10 i ran my first mile and i got 11 minutes... Ya i hate running and i love water.
Dont judge me!!!
I am a swimmer, i have been swimming since i was 5. If you swim competitively, you know you can stop at all times. Just grab onto a lane line if you get a cramp. If you know how to swim, and do it properly while drinking water in between sets, you'll be fine.
Great comparison. At age 52, I can't run anymore due to knee problems, but I still need great cardio for Brazilian Juijitsu and general health. I took up swimming and I'm hooked. All the benefits you stated are true and even more so if you learn all the strokes and swim aggressively. It's truly an amazing form of exercise.
For me, swimming because I joined a coed swim suit optional club a while back.
pics or didnt happen
George Mayer same, swimming is key
Dude, your shirt is cheesy.
SWIMMING FOR SURE! Plus most swimmers have to run at practice. So your getting both in one practice. Also, I can definitely say that butterfly is very hard. (I know because its my best stroke)
I would say running and swimming is the best. In the crisis like this, what are some transportation you can take that your already have? Your body. You can perform most of functionality like running, swimming, crawling, climbing, jumping, and lifting. Both are best and a essential skill we should posses.
Swimming is easier on your joints and it's pretty rare to get hurt unless you scrape your toe on the bottom or get your nail caught in the lane line
Carabootini OH NO NAIL CAUGHT IN THE LANE LINE SUCKS
Carabootini guess you've never been at a swim meet warm up
Carabootini 😂😂😂
Carabootini and if there's too much chlorine which messes with asthma... there was a kid at one of our meets last year that had an asthma attack and was unconscious. He is okay but it was close
Getting any body parts stuck on the lane line is just terrible
In swim practice we do both, dry land for non swimmers than doesn't know what's dry land we run a lot in dry land, so swimming is the best cause you not just swim you run too
Not all swimming teams may do that. Plus, we're naturally built to run not swim. You're most likely to run more then swim. So I go with running. Plus I'm 13 and on my schools track and XC team. I do long distance and I've racked up a total of 15 medals in less then a year. I'm the second fastest person at my school. My problem with running though is my asthma.
+Stephanie Neil swimming can help u more for ur problem of asthma, and if u swim 100 m is 400 m of running, I swim and I don't know why but I'm always the best in PE, and if we are not build to swim then is more challenging, but whatever everyone have they point of view
+Stephanie Neil swimming can help with asthma. Also, it doesn't really matter about the medals it matters more about the exercise. I swim on a competitive team and run on a school track team and track does not compare to the amount of work we do in swim. So I belive that swimming is much harder and better for you than running.
+Stephanie Neil I have racked up 20 in the past year in only twelve and this is my 2nd year I've lost almost all body fat and replaced it with muscle and I personally like swimming and running equally but I personally think swimming is better for your body
+Sydney Zeszotarski that's true swimming is a hell of a work out
I've ran several marathons, running is great and is very mental, but I like swimming because of the way the whole body moves as a unit it's very focusing
Swimming is better, but running is more accessible for 99% of people.
true.
I am a runner. Because i dont have access to swimming pools..
run to one
epic +max tylor
what do you mean no access ? you are a creepy perv aren't you ?
+Cassius And you're being a dumbass
Cassius I lol'd
I do both. I'm 40 with 3 young kids. I do walking, swimming, jogging and weights alternate dates. Kids are in practice. It's all depends what are my kids doing. I tried to get something going. Some days I do swim, weights and jog.
Swimming for the win
I'm both a swimmer and a runner, and I think they both have pros and cons. Swimming definitely has less injuries, however. I've been battling with high hamstring tendonitis in running and swimming has really helped me through it all,
swimming the only sport where all muscles work and your spinal cord dont gets loaded
Humans are designed to walk jog run vast distances everyday that's what we did for millions of years
Khaled even skipping
Khaled It's also the only sport where your blood pressure actually decreases.
Khaled yep
I quit my job. now i'm running in the morning and do swimming in the afternoon.
I am a simmer. I would say they complement each other. I have observed over time that rythm of my kicks in the pool have improved. I credit that to running and that my ability to manage my oxygen during breathing while running has improved and I credit that to simming. :)
Sometimes I'm in the mood to do an 8 mile run, sometimes I'm in the mood to do a 2 mile swim. It just depends. There are reasons I love both. Sometimes I get tired of one and move back to other and I'm happy that I am physically capable of either one and have a choice. I ran track in college but I also competed in ocean swims. I really just like both.
i dont have anywhere to swim so i only have the option to run oh well
As a wise man once said: swimmers are mermaids. Were fast, but running is not happening. Like if you a competitive swimmer
*Running’s easy*
Lol wat since when
Swimming wins!
wait, you can burn something underwater?
SpongeBob has been doing it for years, because fuck logic :)
rebones714 only i got that. you know in the kitchen!!!
dean dignos Easy to do. Very, very easy.
Swimming is way less stressful on your joint! Plus, I hate running and swimming is my passion pretty much so:)
I’m a runner, love doing both whenever I can! Swimming is less accessible for me, but they both have their place :) I’m willing to bet they’re almost equally as good for you based on the literature I’ve read - if anything, swimming MAY come out on top...but there are more problems than people often think. Life is full of risks though, and both activities lower your susceptibility to a plethora of illness of course 😊
I like biking. I've never been able to do more than jog a mile or two, even when I was very active in high school. Plus it sucked. Now biking, I would often do 10-50 mile bike rides. I love swimming too, but I only had opportunities to swim during the summer. Really, I think the best type of exercise is the exercise you find fun and rewarding enough to keep doing.
Competitive swim squad where you at??😂😂🌊🌊🌊
I have been both running and seimming for a couple years now and nothing can compare to how hard a progression or a tempo run can be when your running 7 to 9 miles at 6:30 pace and sometimes getting faster
About 20+ years ago, I had ankle and feet problems so I sought treatment from a podiatrist who was a well known marathon runner. I was somewhat stunned when the doctor told me that my injuries were running related and she recommended that I stop running and take up swimming. When a marathon runner who is also a podiatrist tells you that running is bad for your ankle and feet, you listen and obey. I did, of course, have to learn to swim which was a challenge.
yeah all true but swim builds calve, thigh, abdominal, and all arm muscles... running builds leg muscles that is it
alaura14 m
Well sorta... sprinters build muscle all over too.
Try sprinting to build your lats and tell me how that works
you forgot alot of muscles in the body but yeah
Matthew Smith
Olympic sprinters usually have more muscle than Olympic swimmers
Now... I know that they do more than sprint to train, but I'm pretty sure back muscles are developed just from the fast moving arms while running.
Sprinter's lats won't be as wide as a swimmer, but a swimmer's quads won't be as thick as a sprinter either.
We all know that the biggest muscles in the body are the leg muscles.
So...
santanaoutlaw A sprinter does specific resistance training to build up type 2a&b muscle fibres for maximum efficiency. They don't just sprint and get a big upper body :) They also have to do a lot of core exercises to keep their body controlled during their sprint
Swimming is the best sport for you...You literally move your WHOLE body!
The best exercise for overall muscular and cardiovascular endurance. And you can't overheat easily.
Yeah ahah your so right dude! Because running only involves your toes! You don’t move your whole body when your run only your toes and you somehow fly across the land.
Fucking idiot.
I get up before the sun to run outside before it gets too hot, usually around 4 miles. Then I rest a little bit and lap swim an hour to an hour in a half, alternating strokes. For me, running is exercise but swimming is FUN! Hence, if I had to pick one for the rest of my life, swimming all the way!
1:56 10 minutes mile pace is not that fast, even for longer distances like 5 or 10Ks
Lauren Dorough lmao I heard him say 10 minute mile, my little 10 year old sister can di
Lauren Dorough 10 minutes for a 5k is insanely fast that is a 3:20 pace for each mile
But what about doing a half marathon? Which is 13.1 miles I did that in 2 hours 2 minutes and 31 seconds and it takes about that long if you are fit and in good shape. Also I did that for fun no medal just to see if I could do it.
What happened to the fact that running long distances is actually bad for you? Am I missing something?
He did mention that in the video. You don't have to run a marathon every time you do it. My opinion is that short sprint intervals with walking is the best if you're going to run, or do any continuous cardio.
fukdisfukdat swimming long distances is also bad, because, you know, there is nowhere to rest in the ocean -,-
MuskyElon Humans were built to run long distance
I prefer swimming for overall health and fitness.
Well if you prefer it for health and fitness then obviously theres a reason for your decision. What is it?
I used to run a lot. Now my knees are telling me I like swimming more so that’s what I’m currently doing.
As someone who’s done both semi-competitively, I prefer swimming. It’s more of an all around excercise and I can do it more often and for longer periods of time without hurting myself that running. However, I would like to say that there are two things I learned in running that really helped when swimming. 1. Pacing myself, which I don’t think needs to be explained. 2. I learned how to keep my breathing steady when running so that I wouldn’t run out of breath as easily. Even when I did run out of breath, I taught myself how to catch my breath quickly, which is really really important in swimming for obvious reasons.
While both are awesome, I’m going to say swimming is better.
How about you be a badass and run, swim, and bike.
That would be badass.
As an avid cyclist and swimmer (40km/day and 250m/day) I tried a few years ago to do triathlon training and failed miserably; I just couldn't get far running. In over a year and only training on weekends, I got myself up to a 400m swim/10 km cycle (easy peasy) and a sad 1 km run (here's where I died). I was just never able to push through on longer runs. My body really hates running...I have a lot of respect for those who do triathlons.
Hey. you can run. I started walking -> fast walking -> walking & a bit running -> slow running -> running, it took 2 months and I am 50. I did it for triathlon but now I am love to run. It's addictive.
I did a couple of triathlons, by the time I was at the run I ended up having to walk the last 500m because I couldn’t run
this is weird, its the complete opposite for me. when i come to biking, i fall off the bike after 15 minutes (for real) but when i come to run, its just so easy.
this guy is right. butterfly is so hard omfg. i dont think i have teh arm/chest muscles to do it.
Ikr tomorrow I'm competing but I get to do breats and back stroke so I'm happy
+Catty oops ment breaststroke

Nemocat123 AJ ya i love animal jam it is hard to find them i would love to add you
Since I'm overweight and have back problem
Swimming is perfect way to burn my calories while heal my backpain.
With me being a baseball person and loving baseball and hitting and baserunning. I'm going to have to say running benefits me more
You need both!
swimming is better for injured people too. injured people cant run
Depending on their injury, sometimes leg injuries can heal so later on they can run, and people with missing body parts can get custom made limbs to help out.
Same goes for obese people. Being obese makes running very hard on my knees.
I don't like swimming though :(
Audrey Harris I have shoulder problems from swimming, so running is actually better for me, like someone else said, it depends on the injury. My sinus problems caused by the chlorine in pools has gotten better after running as it helps clear them out
Running because you don't have to wash your hair or get changed straight away!!!!!!!!!
Wear a swimcap.
Niga u still have to bath after a run lol
INSAN3 ZE3K Not really. Just splash your face with cold water and you’re good.
Kleo3392 but what about the smell??
I’m sorry is this name taken? Sweat is odorless on its own. It only smells when mixed with bacteria.
I am one with the water. One can do laps, one can go crazy doing gymnastics through various strokes or one can go scuba diving. There is so more diversity with water vs running.
I do both, they are enjoyable. I love the pain and fast heartbeat while running. Running clears my mind up and lightens my move. Swimming is more relaxing, still quite hard and exhausting though. The feeling after these workouts is just awesome! So, both are great for me.
someone who definitely understands.
I am a swimmer and we have to run 5 miles 3 times a week, and swim on average 22k a week and 4 hours of gym a week
I was living a sedentary life at home and my feet muscles got weaker cuz of muscle atrophy.
However i did went to the beach and swim from time to time with no problems....But, when i started to run around my neighborhood i just couldn't.... i felt like i was about to fall cuz of how weak my legs where.
After 2 weeks i got my strength again by jogging and doing weights with legs exercises at home. I am doing it twice a week.
What i am saying is that Swimming is good for cardio but NOT to strength your legs. Even if you think it helps the reality is that it really doesn't put your legs to the test like running does.
If you want to build stronger legs then start running while mixing some home exercises. If you want more resistance then go to swim.
Like every Saturday morning time to running and swimming :D super cool video , regards.
Which is better? whatever is available, definitely the best option is learning and doing both. Also throw a bike in and you're already a triathlete!
Bikes aren’t as effective since all your weight is supported by the bike and you don’t need to carry yourself. Like the pool. Running is the undisputed king of work.
Daltira Swimming helps you use all your limbs though. It's easier to lose more weight through swimming than running. Not saying that running is bad, but in terms of quick weight loss, swimming is the best. I guess it's all about preference though. Besides, I do both running and swimming.
Are you absolutely serious? That was the stupidest comment i've ever seen in my entire life!! ^^ :D :D
Daltira
I don't know man, swimming has helped me personally so many times. I get more results from it. Which is why I think it's the best full body workout in my opinion. I can see why you think my comment is stupid though, if you take it as a fact.
Also, swimming is just as hard as running in terms of "hard work". Just saying :D!
EDIT: Good insult though. But seriously, I think you've seen "stupider comments" unless you were born literally yesterday. Just saying.
