Helmets off to you !! That looked really difficult. I was in same boat as you. I have a 23 GSA and did the ABR festival Bridgestone Trail on it last year (in the dry) and thought wow this bike can cope with anything. However, the penny has now dropped that as a novice, slimey rutted UK green lanes are on a whole new level for the beast. I have just bought a Fantic XEF250 Trail for this purpose to learn the ropes on. Pick it up start of Feb and off to Mick Extance for some training at the end of this month. Cannot wait. Good luck with your new bike hunting and keep up the great vids 🤟
Let a little air out of the tyres before attempting any off road surfaces in/on any vehicle, you will get more traction and grip as the bottom of the tyre is flat on the surface. Back on the tarmac reinflate the tyres as they will need to roll with the bends in the road. Ask any trial or scrambler rider, they never ride with full inflated tyres. I used to ride a Ossa trial bike with almost flat tyres and it would normally go anywhere. Good video
@thepeakybiker , if you had time and knew where you were trying to travel, sometime another motorcyclist may have filmed the route. This is no criticism of your journey. Other bikers will now use yours to pre navigate their journeys from now on. Even search Google earth maps for a sky down view, I use both when out on the fell trails , either walking or biking.
In WWII they sometimes sent off pilots in their Spitfires to battle with little more than a few takeoffs and landings. The sink or swim mentality. You had the courage and metal to jump in the ring and made it back alive....you got my vote as a road warrior.
Brilliant, great effort. This is the sort of thing Im looking for 2025 and beyond. Not sure if my GS is the bike for it. Some amazing scenery, and more in touch with it 👏
Well done Brian, good effort mate. As we have discussed not the best conditions combined with the mighty GSA to learn on, but baptism of fire and all that. When i off road mine i always make sure there is maybe 10litres of fuel, keeps weight down etc.
Good effort, music and video matey! I started this off road stuff in September this year and bought a managable Scram 411. I started on small tarmace tracks. then progressed to broken concrete tracks.......then to donkey tacks and then mud and filth. I slipped and the bike went down on mud and filth. Note to myself keep the front wheel away from the ridges. I repeat to myself, 'easy twiddle'....and its all good training. Well done to you on that behemoth.
As long as you never got injured Brian & your mate helped you lift the beast back up! 🤪👍 I only got shot of my little G310GS because it would have been a struggle doing the ABR trip on it & then I ended up going in a van! 🤬🤣👍 I will have another lighter bike at 1 point, but really love my F850GS & it's staying! ✌️😎
Hi Peaky you took words out my mouth to big the GSA is for that sort of riding. Don’t let anyone convince you to do Salter fell cause you won’t make it on that. 300 CRF or very similar bikes only. Mind you gave it a bash and done it fair play to you 👍🏍️
I had a Honda XR250RT for Greenlaning that kept spitting me off that was a bit much for a 69 year old! So I got a Honda Hunter cub CT125 which is a lot easer to handle and consequently a lot more fun, thanks for posting - Ride safe, Chris
Great vid Peaky. That first section when you started down the hill I was going for my breaks and I'm sat on the sofa! Fair play. I'm looking to buy an offroad bike myself. Done an experience day at Mick Extance 3 weeks ago I'm hooked with off road now.
As soon as I saw the guy tip on those tyres I knew It was going to be emotional lol. Now you know you can do it on those types of roads so easy trails should be piss!
Fair play to ya mukka. Those lanes looked wet and slippy. Like you said at the end. You gave it ago. These things come with plenty of practice. They would be ace in the summer when they aren’t as slippy. Great effort dude.
@ nah just more practice. Did you get your knee down the first time you went on a track or did it take you a few track days. Plenty of light lanes up in the peaks to gain your confidence and Home in the skills
Fair play to you for giving it a go. It'd be too big for me too. Ideally your after something about 180kg or lighter, and cheap that you don't mind laying it down when you need to. You can do yourself more injury trying to prevent a fall than letting it go. Best of luck with future ventures off road
Stunning Brian and fantastic music also . But I have to say I need a smaller bike to enjoy this type of ridding , my next bike will be something very capable of this type of ridding . Well done mate
Props to you Brian for putting yourself through this adventure and sharing it with us warts and all. Definitely not the easiest introduction to off roading in such challenging conditions and a heavy bike but well don buddy
Fair play to you bud you gave it a go, on a fully fuelled GS with your wee legs, it looked real greasy in places too. When it gets chewy and lumpy momentum is the key, which is counter to what your brain is telling you, lighter and lower is definitely easier also less tiring. When I’m back from Morocco I’ll come down and give you masterclass in laying it down 🤣
its all fun and games mate, least you were with someone who could help you pick it up, I usually go solo and thats half my problem haha. It makes you realise how big these bikes are and actually I would much rather be on a 3/400cc bike off road :). Stay sunny side up mate.
😂 That is “Commando Spirit” right there, courage, determination and cheerfulness! 10/10 for effort buddy, I’d need a lay down in a dark room after that. ‘Kin awesome 👍🤣🤣
Class video mate, Some of those lanes looked fairly scary, especially if it's your first bash so you did awesome. I reckon the tyres make all the difference, if they aren't proper off road tyres they're rubbish in any mud. Well done though :)
Nice one Peaky. With 30 litres of fuel and I’m guessing probably unsuitable tyres that should have had disaster written all over it. It didn’t mate you smashed it with only a couple of lies down for the GSA. That took balls. Great vid 👍🏻
Trail riding is brilliant fun, especially this time of year... and yup... you are generally never cold out trail riding in winter. Def a good work out. ayup mukka i loved it yes bmw is big and heavey but loved it prop look at 2 bikes 250-300 for those type of lanes and a more lighter bike like a t7 tennere
Fair play Peaky, that mud and those ruts, anything other than a full-on knobbly might as well have been a road tyre. It's addictive isn’t it? If you ever fancy doing some of the TET in the North Yorks, then give me a shout. I've got a good idea on which trails are better suited to bigger bikes. All the best pal 👍
Hi peaky, I'm new subscriber and enjoying your channel. As good as the GS is me mucka, it's just an all-rounder, a heavy bike on mud is always going to hard work and that looked it 😮 that was a tuff track. Fair play to you 😊
After exactly 2 years I decided to trade my big old R1250 GSA for that very reason, it's a fantastic bike for touring but it is very heavy and lumbering in so many situations, constantly having to manage the weight sucked a lot of the joy out of riding for me, I traded mine in for a much more fun bike which is more than capable of doing road trips, 2024 BMW S1000R, as soon as I left the dealership and hit motorway home I was back in my happy place. I have nothing bad to say about the GSA, for the fans of them they are great, but they aren't for everyone. Just to add my own personal opinion, the big adventure bikes aren't the best choice for off road and aren't necessarily the best for touring, there are much better choices for off roading and lots of capable bikes for touring that are more comfortable and not so high or heavy to manage, summing up it's more of a bike you want rather than a bike you need.
yea mate agree with all that if you go touring get a touring bike adventure adventure bike but you need something lighter i do agree i don't do many motorways and most people just take the big GSA on tracks solid ground not like that but after it i want a smaller lighter bike
hey mate NO i didn't....didn't know what todo if i am honest but i know next time i will deffo and drop the front bags off too thanks for watching mukka
Great little vid peaky but as you said you really need like a 790 Ktm or proper enduro bike for that stuff but I would never take if I had one a bmw 1250 adv bike off road it’s to heavy to big and I wouldn’t want to scratch it or get it covered in shit yes I am one of them 90% that never took them off road I had Ktm 1190 and 2 x 1290’s they were fantastic bikes but I never went off road with them to expensive as well to take the risk anyway take care I hope you are getting by and we’ve turned the corner now just try look forward to this year I wish you well I can’t say about PTSD because I’ve never experienced that and nobody should like you fellas in the forces do when you’ve fought for your country and there’s fk all to help you out afterwards this country is shit for that but best wishes mate take care always watch your videos and Jays you are 2 great characters if only I lived in your area I’d love to ride with you happy new year take care
Hey up peaky, kudos to you, probably not the best bike to start with, but you've seem to have got the bug and it's dangerous , now you'll definitely be skint 😁, Ride safe Simon B 😎
Good effort mate , but your riding totally different bikes ! Ride off road with other GS's then your do the same lines etc , Dunno what tyres you had on , but doubt they were similar to his ! It's kinda like getting Rossi to race Billy bolt on they're factory bikes once round a race track and then a enduro track , Same as you get him to ride NW500 on his bike and tyres to you on yours , totally different riding skills needed
Agree mate I do say this at the end of the video mukka But also wanted to try if before chucking money at all the gear and a bike just to see if I liked it He had full off road tyres I had 50-50 tyres Also didn’t know what to expect really so glad I got through it

you did well considering you where on a massive bike full of fuel and with road tyres on but to be honest mucker I give the off roading a wide birth the last thing you want is to seriously damage your bike
I tell you what buddy fair fuks to ya,,you did mint on that behemoth of a bike there,,not easy those muddy double tracks mate, don’t beat yourself up I’ve seen a lot worse on easier trails 👍👍
Far to big and heavy both those bikes for off roading and green laning ! This is a fact unless you’re a top rider. Never understand these people on these bikes that think they can do what a Enduro bike can do 🤷🏻 Stick to the roads with your over loaded 12 million cc tanks ( My opinion )

Good thing about them is their light easy to work on and the aftermarket stuff is awesome and plentyful
Too much cleaning to be done after that.....🤦👍
Tell me about it
Cant beat riding the trails . So the big question is whats the next bike 😊
Honda or KTM I think wanna look the part even I ride like a fairy
@thepeakybiker even fairys have fun I have been told, hehe . Wonder if the ktms are super cheap right now ?
@ been looking mate waiting on a 250 to come up cheap
you did well considering you where on a massive bike full of fuel and with road tyres on but to be honest mucker I give the off roading a wide birth the last thing you want is to seriously damage your bike
Getting a smaller cheaper bike mate
I would not want to do that to an expensive bike like that.
only bike i have hahaha and had to try it out hahaha i wasn't going fast enough to damage the bike to much thanks for watching though
I tell you what buddy fair fuks to ya,,you did mint on that behemoth of a bike there,,not easy those muddy double tracks mate, don’t beat yourself up I’ve seen a lot worse on easier trails 👍👍
Cheers bro 👊🏻
Means a lot
Was hard but enjoyed it
Poor bike.
That’s what it’s made for
Far to big and heavy both those bikes for off roading and green laning ! This is a fact unless you’re a top rider. Never understand these people on these bikes that think they can do what a Enduro bike can do 🤷🏻
Stick to the roads with your over loaded 12 million cc tanks ( My opinion )
thanks for those words of wisdom mate
