I was decently good at MERN stack even last year, but when I tried to contribute to an organisation, I saw their monorepo and got overwhelmed. I only recently learnt what I saw was a monorepo and now I am confident to try again. Hopefully, it works.
Make also video on how to find gssoc organisation and read the code , also make a video on how to start contributing , it is very overwhelming to see so many issues in some org. github profile , and person leaves from that.
idk man, this honestly just makes me feel overwhelmed asf, feels like i have literally learnt nothing and im at rock bottom, im primarily a web dev(next, react, js/ts, etc..), i have only used firebase as db. i honestly still dont know 'how' to use node backend. cant code without help of AI. havent contributed at all, have no idea how to get started.
Instead of maintaining Open-Source a healthy and better space for real coders and programmers, These you-tubers are making it a competition. There was a time when people were voluntarily contributing code. But now everyone is just competing to get title and money out of it.
one question why? Why you youtubers spoil the true spirit of open source? it is not competition, it is a value adding space. Use your skills to add value instead of competing.
6:01 Wherefrom at GSOC website, can this list of contributors per organization be viewed? Or should it be created, after manually checking contributors to the org's github projects?
Suggestion : Contribute to org / stack where you dont know much ( idk if it exists tbh , harkirat is bricked ) , and show how would you learn while contributing , thats the majority of student . Your past Videos you are contributing to org where you are already pretty good at / dont need to google or learn anything , showing how to navigate when you dont know too much.
@@vedant5019 thats the point showing hard stuff , other gsoc vids of harkirat is him contributing to JS/TS in which he has years of experience and working as a senior dev already ...
please make a video on how to set up an org and how we can determine where to contribute that would help us grow individually aswell as increase our chances of getting selected
as an ex GSoCer I can confirm its a waste of time. it will not help u in longer run. learning technologies only will not help u get into companies that are creating impactful product.
Hey Harkirat loved this video, can we get more videos on setting up dev env for orgs and contributing on a medium to hard project for orgs like Zulip maybe
I found this video not very helpful 👎 The main reason GSOC exists is to encourage people to contribute to open source. ❌ Don't participate GSOC for an internship! ✅Do GSOC to become a part of the open source community, and only participate in projects that align with your interests.
If college can skip assignments and attendance i will surely crack GSoC, win hackathons contribute to open source and learn new tech stacks and build good projects over it
Hey Harkirat, it would be great if you make a vid on "how to setup large projects/codebases locally" as its something I'm genuinely looking out for. So would urge you to do so!
