I always find it ironic that James Edwards, John Salley & Dennis Rodman all got rings playing with MJ and the Bulls (all 3 were on the '96 team). Add that MJ buddied up with Chuck Daley during the '92 Olympics, playing golf together. Bobby Knight called MJ the greatest player he'd ever seen. MJ takes over Chicago, his hometown. It's a tough pill to swallow all around, I guess.

Matter of fact, I was a big time Pistons fan during the Bad Boy years. 1993: "Nobody has really found out a way to stop this guy. The thing that amazes me about Michael Jordan as compared to the rest of the players in the league is his stamina and his endurance. The thing that I wasn't able to do and the thing that Magic wasn't able to do, we succumbed to injuries, we didn't have the type of stamina or the type of energy level that Michael seems to possess every single night, whether he's playing the worst team in the league or the best team in the league. He has an energy level that's unmatched by any other player or any other athlete that I've ever seen in professional sports, whether it be basketball, baseball, football, track, tennis. His energy level is so much greater than ours, that night in and night out he's there performing at a level that we frankly just weren't able to reach and that's why he's there tonight healthy and gunning for a threepeat."
Isiah 1998: "Without question, he's the greatest that I've ever seen play."

In my 40 years of being an NBA supported I can not for the life of me figure out why this is still a "thing" other than the fact that Zeke refuses to let it go (as if he can somehow change history)! MJ literally puts forth no effort whatsoever to keep this "rivalry" going! Never has! He has always said everything he's wanted to say "on the basketball court!" That man is the epitome of "If I could care less, I would!" He doesn't talk about it; he doesn't respond the the things said about him (even the lies); and he could give two 5h1ts about how people feel about him! Love him or hate him, you can't deny his accomplishments, which is the very thing that drives Zeke and his supporters crazy! And you have to be very young if it's an epiphany to you that Michael Jeffrey Jordan is "arrogant"! How can he not be? That is but one of the traits that has him living on that metaphorical island of his! And because they walked off the court before the game was even done is why Isaiah was not on the Dream Team. The first time NBA players were allowed to play in the Olympics the higher ups wanted the team to at least demonstrate good sportsmanship etc. That is why Barkley was admonished by all his team mates for giving that player the elbow. Barkley straightened up after that and the whole team had a ball. They were fantastic. The OTHER MJ and LB had more to do with Thomas kept off the team than Michael.

Isiah Thomas always beat Michael Jordan at the highest level of competition: The Eastern Conference Finals -- Isiah Thomas 3, Michael Jordan 1, the one Jordan got, Thomas gave to him and was injured. Jordan was the one getting the rules slighted in his favor through complaining to the league office about the style-of-play of the Pistons and how they were 'dirty' and 'bad for basketball'.
What Happened?:The NBA was going global and Isiah Thomas was President of the Player's Association, fighting for players to get their TV revenue shares due to the new NBA/NBC contract, making sure agents got less money, making sure players got their increases in bonuses, royalties, penalties, dues, and pensions/benefits due to their market share of the revenue(s) combined with players getting the rights over their images/likenesses -- that was Isiah Thomas at the negotiating table, which is why guys coming into the pros in the mid 90's who were rookies got $40-60M guaranteed contracts; it wasn't Michael Jordan, Magic, or Bird negotiating those deals, it was Isiah Thomas...this is why he and his team got labeled as "BAD" or "EVIL" because Isiah Thomas is the ONLY GUY defeating Michael Jordan 3 straight years in the playoffs when Jordan is the #1 money-maker for the NBA.... Remember Jordan's nickname in '89? MONEY. Remember the corporate dollars internationally had to open up those markets and Hanes, Nike, McDonald's, were all invested in Jordan's success... other companies invested in the NBA globally but the Olympic Team opened those doors.
Let Jordan Win: So in the start of the 1990-91 season, Chuck Daly was named Olympic Team coach, even though Riley had more rings and Thomas gets "injured" during that season and in the ECF, Isiah Thomas took only 9 shots in game 1 and 9 shots in game 2 of the 1991 ECF... So guess what? Let Jordan just take 9 shots in each of the first two ECF playoff games and see what happens? Then what happens to the Pistons? They allowed a "SWEEP" to a team they beat 3 straight seasons and then WALKED-OFF... Why? They made it obvious not to compete and what happened the following season for 1991-92? They didn't re-sign Vinnie Johnson and moved James Edwards and that makes it easier for who? Chicago. Remember the Pistons were the only team beating the Bulls then and they were injured in 1991 and didn't want to come back healthy for 1991-92 just to get revenge?
This is why I will always contend that the Pistons and particularly Isiah Thomas, stepped aside for the sake of the progress of the entire NBA and the players financial future by giving up the 1991 ECF to the city of Chicago, his hometown. The 3 guys that led 'the walk-off' Aguirre, Laimbeer, and Thomas -- all 3 guys are from Chicago. Then the Pistons break up their championship-contending team? Why? Who benefits? You see?
Isiah Thomas 3, Michael Jordan 1, the one Jordan got, Isiah gave to him. Why do you think he sat down with blood-shot red eyes with a a pine of liquor crying over a 30 year handshake at 'The Last Dance'?
How do you get mad when you win? The Bulls won, right? So why would Jordan be mad simply because Thomas walked off the court and moved on? You said you hated him so why would you want a handshake from someone you hate?
See, Jordan knows Thomas let him win, Bulls fans cannot accept it but Jordan knows, he was on the court and he knew how hard it was to beat Detroit 3 straight seasons he lost so now he sweeps them? It's that easy?.... Remember, Jordan has a competition problem so he would know if someone let him win and the one thing a person doesn't like when they have a competition problem is someone letting them win -- which is what Thomas did -- he went out on his own terms.

    • @adrianprince7266

Last time I saw Isiah, he had his head down walking off the court in shame as he and the pistons were swept. No dignity, no respect. That look said it all to me. I've never seen a defending champion go out like that. So it's not how you start, it's how you finish and that the last thing I remember about the pistons vs bulls.

    • @plainsimple244
      @plainsimple244 2 года назад +4

@@adrianprince7266 Isiah Thomas HANDED Michael Jordan the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals -- handed it to him on the silver platter. He had all the dignity in the world, he created a dynasty for the NBA, Jordan, and his home city Chicago.... Remember, the 'Walk-Off' was more of a peaceful protest as was 'the sweep'... there's a reason for it and if you've looked at this, it's obvious. Also, you must understand Chicago/Detroit didn't have a rivalry like Boston/Philly from 1980-1985 where it was Philly one year and Boston the next and back-and-forth; Detroit dominated Chicago throughout the regular season and playoffs from 1988-1990 with a 28-9 record... and then all of a sudden Detroit doesn't know how to win a game in '91?... See, I'd believe what people were saying had Detroit been healthy or if it was a 4-1, 4-2, or 4-3 Chicago win over Detroit in '91 but a sweep? No... especially when Thomas takes only 9 shots in game 1 and 9 shots in game 2 of the 1991 ECF.
To figure this out all you have to do is reverse it: Let Jordan miss 34 games with wrist surgery, get injured in the 2nd round (if that Bulls team gets that far) and then take only 9 shots in game 1 and 9 shots in game 2 of the ECF in either 1991 or 1993 when going for a 3-peat.... Remember, the media went nuts when Jordan just stayed out late gambling so imagine him only taking 9 shots vs. a team he dominated in the playoffs up to that point.... When Jordan retired people were saying he was 'forced out' and they did an investigation on him.... so Thomas taking only 9 shots, yeah, it doesn't make sense... ESPECIALLY when the Pistons broke up their championship team by not re-signing Vinnie Johnson and keeping James Edwards for 1991-92 to get revenge -- makes no sense if you are seriously trying to win titles.

Why complain when a man you say you hate and a team you hate doesn't shake your hand when YOU WIN.... Remember, Jordan won in 1991 via a sweep and he still mad? It shows you he NEEDED and WANTED validation by Isiah Thomas because he knows Isiah Thomas reigns over him. Michael Jordan CANNOT go back and change history; Isiah Thomas 3, Michael Jordan 1 and the one Jordan got, Thomas handed it to him... Jordan knows this greater than any Bulls fan alive. And MJ, as the saying goes, took that 5h1t "personally"! Maybe so, but. when you look back on it all. There was 2 players your beloved MJ had the most trouble with. 1 he finally got over because we got old and he was on the way up (Isiah Thomas and The Pistons) Oh, and he did NOT congratulate us. When they were on the Oprah Winfrey Show he, Scottie and rest of the Chicago Bulls#*ters talked about us like we were dogs, then talked about my hometown like we ain't nothing as well. Now I've seen her have other champion teams on her show, I noticed she didn't invite the 2004 world champion Detroit Pistons on her show. And the other player he couldn't beat in his sleep. As the true great one, Muhammad Ali would say 'If he even dreamed of whipping him, he'd better wake up and apologize. And that of course is Larry Bird. Now don't hand all that jive about he was young, if he was so great, why didn't just fly over the Celtics and beat them? Hell, he score 63 points and still lost to them. Why? one word...TEAM! One man does not a team make. The only time he won against Larry Bird was when he was playing WITH Larry Bird on the Dream Team...A team he didn't want Zeke on or any other Piston. Yeah, Chuck Daly coached them, but everybody knows when it comes to basketball, the players run the league. If Isiah was on that team, MJ would've acted like the spoiled brat he is and took his ball and went home. Had he done so, I would've said good riddance. But MJ redeemed himself in the bad boys documentary, when he said and I quote, "If the Pistons didn't beat out butts the way they did, wouldn't have won those six titles.' Well, that and the fact that in '96 he had 3 former Detroit Pistons on his team-(Dennis Rodman, James Edwards and John Salley) to make that run to 72-10 and the title. Bottom line is this, like I say in history, if you're gonna tell it or teach it, teach the whole damn thing. Don't leave nothing out. and the truth is this, he's looked upon as the greatest player in the league-(CRAP!). But I'll say this, if you take any NBA champion from 1991 on out to now and rumble them up against the 1989 Detroit Pistons, we would kick every one one their asses and send them all home crying to their mamas quick and plenty fast! That's what I know. BAD BOYS FOR LIFE!

But, he underestimated the impact of bad blood and lifetime of resentment his and the other Pistons revolting bad faith bush league behavior had and its lasting bad taste. MJ Said "they called me to ask me to play, and asked why I wouldn’t play with Isaiah on the team. Here's where says you know what Chuck doesn't want Isiah to play, so Isiah couldn't be part of the team." GET IT RIGHT

Why would you love a team that wants to hurt and injure their opponents. No matter what Isiah Thomas said they are a disgrace to the sport and they play today they will never win because they will either be ejected or suspended.

If Isiah and "bad boy" crew spent their whole time trying to hurt me like they did Michael Jordan, there would be more than a few "ugly" moments.

I blame Johnson, and Jordan for Tomas being left off dream team. I have seen kids with sportsmanship.

Obviuosly Isiah has absolutely NO self-awareness. MJ will NEVER forget or forgive Isiah and his teammates walking off the floor when the game had not ended. Jordan spoke the truth; It WAS an ASSHOLE thing to do and Jordan called him out for it.

MJ isn't the one keeping this going. Isaiah is. AND ALL OF YOU ARE!!!!! MJ is much more intelligent and doesn't waste the time even thinking about Isaiah. He only answers questions about Zeke when he was asked. AND it was not MJ that kept him off the Dream Team- Anyone that really believes that is nuts! Ask the OTHER MJ and LB .The committee wanted the USA team to demonstrate GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP! It was the first time NBA players were allowed in the Olympics. The Pistons walking off the court before the game was even finished just before this all happened did not go well at all with multiple people. Jordan didn't keep him off the Dream Team. Isaiah did it to himself. MJ has much more important things to think about than Isaiah Thomas today. He is not that small! For God's sake let it go.
