- Official audio for Desmond Dekker & The Aces' 1969 smash 'It Miek' aka 'It Mek'
A follow-up to the UK Number One, 'Israelites', 'It Miek' first saw issue as 'A It Mek’, a Dekker-penned original song that had been inspired by the antics of a rowdy younger sister.
The original version, produced by legendary Beverley's Records boss, Leslie Kong, was deemed by the BBC to be ‘too raw’ for radio play, so was remixed by noted sound engineer, Graeme Goodall, who also overdubbed horns, giving the track a polished feel.
The result was another significant UK hit for Desmond and the Aces, with the single breaching the pop listings in June before peaking at Number 7 on 22 July 1969.

IT MIEK LYRICS
Written by Desmond Dacres & Leslie Kong
You think I never see you when you jump over the wall
You think I never see you when you accidentally fall
Me said, ah it mek, make you pop your bitter gall
Ah it mek, while you accidently fall
Ah it mek, hear she crying for ice water
Ah, ah, ah
Hey hey
I check you out and you're cool, girl
I dig you out and you're cool, girl
Rock it to me children
I told you once and I told you twice
Sweet nanny goat a go run him belly good
Me said, ah it mek, make you pop your bitter gall
Ah it mek, while you accidently fall
Ah it mek, hear she crying for ice water
Ah, ah, ah

I loved this since it was released I'm an old white English man this music is wonderful ❤
I’m an old English woman who agrees with you 100% 😊
Worse: I'm a 60 Year-old German man and love this music since my youth.😉
One of the most beautiful, boss reggae tracks that ever existed. Should be played with the bass up.
Not really any way to play it without the bass up.
@@glibbis Well, a mobile phone definitely doesn't do it justice. Not without earbuds, anyway.
@@roogalaterFor sure. Phone speakers are NOT ideal
Misseh ah hit mek! Brings back so many memories for me. I recall my dad saying he came from the same parish as Desmond. This is reggae at its best. Anyone who can listen to this and resist the urge to start dancing needs therapy!
Wind it up my lovely :)
This music causes lots of problems for me: I bob my head, I shuffle my feet, I flail my arms, all sorts of herky jerky movements and I sing along! I would ask for an intervention, but put another record on and we'll see if my two left feet will cooperate.
@@honiideslysses12 Just keep on bobbing, shuffling, and flailing. Let your body do whatever the hell it wants. Noone's watching. Be free. Enjoy the groove. Have fun!🙂
Desmond Dekker makes me proud to be a Jamaican! :-)
If you're so proud to be a jamaican then what does that wretched vile flag do in your profile picture?
Joost Schenk "vile flag"?
That's an American flag I live in America i am american military veteran & make my money their, so trying to "shame" me won't work, dude.
super blue That's your flaw.
super blue I wasn't crying until now. You hurt my feelings so bad!
super blue yes be proud my first husband was from Jamaica and he had many good qualities. Greetings from UK
I remember sitting on stone wall in Manchester in the lates 60s listening to reggae music coming from a Jamaican house party, this is where my love of reggae came from. Still love it now aged 66!
Why can’t people make music like this anymore
cause all music now is made by talentless little rich kids.
@@trojanhorse8865 I think right right there bud 👌
Should
Respectfully, check out Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad.
Because they dont understand it.
My first 4 track tape was the Israelites. Desmond Dekker and the Aces. Friends would climb into my '62 Impala, and say What's That? Great days. Now in my late 70's, I still like this old Jamaican music.
I'm a white man , who loves old school SKa, reggae. One of my favourite songs. Great singer.
... how can anyone NOT love this? and how is color even a factor? odd... have you *been* to Jamaica? There's a reason why our motto is 'out of many, one people' :)
A True Israelite who sounds so soft and sings so sweetly .
“mr Desmond Dekker’s got a crown made of gold”
Takes me to my happy place
Just heard this song in a commercial for Blue Moon beer. Hearing it was so nostalgic. I had to come and find the whole song. Memories of my early childhood in the early 60s in Kingston.
This is my all time favourite old Jamaican ska song ❤❤
Rest in peace, Mr. Dekker!
This is proper Trojan Reggae music.
RIP Desmond Dekker, didn't know he lived near me in Thornton Heath before he passed away.
I am Irish and they are the best and was lucky enough to grow up in this time
There's rarely anything better than this. I'm so glad that I could see Mr Dekker at a live performance back in 1993. Who in the world can ever downvote this?
CyberstormDJTeam *dislike*
that nanny goat can certainly play the bass after a drop of ice water.
Anyone who down votes this track has got no hope in this world. I wasn’t lucky enough to see Desmond play live. I love ska music and he’s my favourite artist. I’ll stick my neck out and say I prefer Desmond to prince buster.
@@dannyfearon9905 Don't be so silly.
One of Jamaica's greatest exports !!
I can think of another one ...the herb !
I can think of another a beautiful young lady. Millie Small who sang My Boy Lollipop 🍭.
But for those who do not know herb is a natural herb that grows naturally around the world FYI.
This is top tier music. Desmond's voice is so amazing and unique.
this is a real treasure. R.I.P Mr Desmond Dacres. God Bless
Christ it's a long time since I last heard this.
I was told I was singing Desmond Dekker songs as a child!!
Happy 80th birthday Desmond Dekker!!!
Happy 82nd Birthday ...

Victor thank you
@Victor Finally, after many years loving this song, I can understand the lyrics (not all of them but it doesn't matter).
Thank you for writing down the lyrics!!!
Victor the song is apparently inspired by an incident in dekker’s youth: he was present when his sister fell while climbing over a fence or wall.
That bit at 0:31...shivers up the spine! Desmond Dekker came first!
One of tunes from mum and dad's collection. Oh how I Miss those days, coming from Sunday Mass and playing their 7in tunes as if me ah DJ... Well how many years later I AM 🎶🎵🎶🎵 All Praises due To The Most High and my parents 🙏🏾💔
Undeniable talent and clever recording procedure. 'Desmond Dekker' and the Aces were the first Jamaican group to achieve 'Superstar' status in both US and UK markets. What is more, it is pure 'Jamaican' style music. Brilliant to listen to it again after all these years.
IT MEK.....GOT TO BE ONE HIS BEST RECORDINGS, PROBABLE EVERY INSTRUMENT PLAYING YOU CAN HEAR.....SO REFINED.
Smashing, even after all those years !!!!
kini kia ,i agree with you ,its fab what a great reggie dance ,i love the stuff lol xx

Proper reggae,. Brings back memeries of the skinhead days. 👍👍👍👍👍
Yeah mon, I first heard this tune when we went over to White City, to sort out some QPR lads, so we took over their pub, I think it was called the Pavilion, near to little wormwood scrubs, we were ready for 'em, but when this tune came on we were all stomping to this RASS bad tune.✊🏼
Hard mod 👍🇯🇲
The best reggae is on Trojan records, especially skinhead reggae.
I used to watch my dad and mum dance to in the good old days and it left the most beautiful memory growing up
Want to give a massive shout out to the legendary DJ Derek of Bristol, UK. Never forgotten.
Love all Desmond Decker songs. Memories!!!!
The Blue Moon beer ad brought me to this song. Love it!

Love this song, and I've got Dave to thank SO MUCH for his brilliant choices of THE best music there is.
This was the second Song (after Israelites) I heard with that strange Rythm, they called "Reggae" since then. I love it. Thank you Desmond. ( Both Singles are here in my collection.

This is Rocksteady not Reggae
@@chuckemeade And it all came from ska. So why worry what someone else calls it, dude? We don't all have to categorize things the same. I tell you what we can all agree on is that it's GOOD.
Just heard lovely tribute to Desmond on Cerys Matthew's fab Sunday show on Bbc6music today! Great to hear Israelites, 007, and my fave, It Mek!

such a romanticism for this age of ska, rocksteady and beyond. it needs a resurgence in our culture.
Sublime !!!
Great. I didn't realise how good this was in the day
notice that even many years later "Trojan records" forces their images, big and bold, on all affiliated songs
