It's really difficult for me to decide between the DJ36 with blue dial and smoth bezel, the blue dial with fluted bezel and silver dial with fluted bezel 😅
Currently debating between the same configuration as this, or the white dial. It's a truly beautiful timepiece you have, congratulations on your purchase
Can't go wrong with silver white or black. I have a DJ 41 Mother of Pearl / diamond dial on wrist now and I'm beyond pleased. Straight away it looks like a silver dial. And the light brings out the lavender/ blue/ teal/ pink/ green/ yellow/ orange etc
Lovely watch indeed! I have some sports steel Rolex, but I think something like this would be a good addition. I don't have a big wrist so should be perfect in the 36mm.
Finally! Glad I am not the only one bothered by Rolex's lack of dual AR Coating that leads to intense reflections on black/blue dials in low light settings
I just purchased this same style yesterday. I went with a 36mm. My wrist size is 6.5 to 7 at the most. I felt like the 41 was to big but still could’ve worn it. The face was kinda big so I went down to 36mm. I’m on 5/6. Not a big guy. But I think the 36 through me off because it wasn’t sized and the band was super big sliding all over my arm. But I think once it comes in and is sized I’ll be good. Anyone else thinking like this also. Both associated there said 36 for me. I took their advice. Any advice or thoughts send this way. Thanks. Excellent Video.
Just oozes quality and class...I tried on one of my friend's Daydate 40 the other day and it just fits around my wrist so beautifully. Lovely watch, I hope to own one some day 😌🙏🏼
Love the modern silver Datejust - I'd probably get the smooth bezel personally as I think the fluted bezel detracts from the beautiful sunburst. I also don't dress up enough to warrant it. Going to get myself on a waitlist for it now - I've seen enough videos haha.
I’ve been struggling with the same issue as I’ve researched a Datejust for the last month or so. There is an appeal to the smooth bezel. In some ways the smooth bezel seems more classic because while vintage steel Rolexes often had flutes or ridges on the bezel, they didn’t light up like a disco ball. I get the feeling that the current white Rolesor bezel is far more flashy than its historical predecessors.
@@tcnoble I’ve seen a bunch of DJs in person since I wrote that comment and it depends on the dial colour! Get fluted with black and blue (and maybe mint green) but get smooth for silver and white dials. Hope that helps
@@UCZ15 Thank you for the tip. I’m positive that I want a silver dial, so the smooth may be my choice. I appreciate the textural contrast between the curved bezel and the starburst dial. My wardrobe is mostly black, so the silver monochrome will work well for me. In the other hand, it’s versatile enough to work with almost anything I might wear.
On the waiting list once again. I've now decided to get the silver dial, but with the sporty configuration (smooth bezel, oyster bracelet)... can't wait. I was considering the black dial, but this will be perfect. The silver is different and something other than another black watch... What do you think of this idea?
Great review of a fantastic watch and love your exact configuration..... Next time skip those rubber watches and add the 36mm Explorer for the ultimate pair of watches....haha! Thanks for sharing....
Thanks for the comment. I actually sold a 124270 to make way for this. Did not fall in love with the Explorer. Loved the size and bracelet (most comfortable Oyster I've tried), but was too understated for my taste, and really missed the date complication.
How is that fully polished case holding up to daily wear? I find that polished services show so many scratches so quickly for watches that are actually worn. Polished case is my main hesitation about buying this exact configuration in a modern DJ. It makes me want to get a vintage datejust which has the tops of the lugs brushed. Which also gives a little contrast to the fluted bezel
Thanks, initially I wanted to buy the sports models and was annoyed they looked too big on my wrist. Now I flip it, and am grateful that 36mm looks good as you say! 34-38 is the future!
Thank you 😊 I got lucky. Someone had canceled their order after waiting for a year. Then I walked in, so it’s available for sale. I saw it and I can’t let go. Even I’m little hesitate that my wrist would be too small. But like I said I can’t let it go :)
I have the same 16234 white stick dial. It's the perfect size. It's like yours class only problem is clasp will show scratches but they buff out. I paid 3200 dollars for it in 2004. How much was yours?
Mine is the 126234 released in 2018. Mine is 2020 "birth year" and as per video cost £8500 or $11000. Great to gear you've had so much use out of yours and still hung on to it - great investment too!
@@watchgardenuk you are correct. My first watch was a 16200 1993 rolex date just 36 mm. Crazy story, I bought it from a rich car dealer in 1994 for 2300 bucks. 16200 was a great watch all stainless but someone put a jubilee 18k bracelet on it also put a real 18k 48 diamond rolex bezel and black dial WITH 18k stick numbers and gold hands. No box or papers but the add-ons alone are worth 5000 USD. Crazy things you can find. I would never sell any of my rolexs they are going down in family

Just bought this last week brand new from the AD for my daughter. I think for a man, yiou need a smaller wrist. I put it on my wrist for fun and it looked ridiculous. Own a Daytona and a Sub, which is more my size. Its a nice watch, but overvalued as are all Rolex watches.
@whereRbearsTeeth That the porportions are off on DJ2 might be true, but there is nothing "off" about the 41. The 36 is relegated to and seen as the unisex/grandpa sized DJ. This is my „One Watch“ till my last day! What a timeless masterpiece!
It is!
I love the silver dial mainly cause there is hardly any contrast with the white date indicator, and you still get a sunburst dial. Great
Review 👍
Agree - this is why I like the silver too. The date wheel almost just blends in.
Just ordered the same silver oyster from the dealer. $2,000 deposit fingers crossed I get it soon. Can’t wait. 3:51
Nothing like gardening wearing a Rolex.

Another advantage of silver dial is that you don't see reflections as much from the crystal (since it has no AR coating).

The DJ is just a tastefully done watch. I have the 2023 DJ 36mm with the palm green motif dial. It keeps excellent time.
The fluted bezel is anything but “tastefully done.” It looks tacky, gaudy, and dated.
Good review and discussion of the size selection. I wanted 41 at first but it was too big for my rest.
