I think it is ridiculous that thrift stores are asking eBay prices especially since someone donated it to the store to be sold they definitely need to go back to the bag bundles of toys for few bucks like they use to do if I want to pay eBay prices I’d shop from home on eBay
I go to my 2 local Savers on a weekly basis, and things have definitely changed. 10 years ago, I’d find great vintage toys for super cheap almost everyday I went! Now, I’ll find a vintage toy maybe once every 3 weeks. And when I do, it’s more expensive now than 10 years ago.
Hi Pixel Dan, I totally agree with you, things have changed and not only in collecting, in daily living and in the global economy as well, I hope one day things will improve, stay heavy and blessings to the Pixel family too! 🙏
Yes!!! Thank you Pixel Dan. I was at my local savers just yesterday doing some toy hunting. The selection was almost none existent, and over priced. I've been saying for years now...remember when thrift stores used to be thirty?
Another thing to consider, is people probably aren't donating as much either. Anyone can just throw something up on ebay and shipping a small figure isn't much of a hassle.
I had that UFO and space station playset as a kid! I loved it so much! It had a working elevator, it had a dome that could turn, multiple vehicles and figures. It was amazing and I loved it so much. Seeing the UFO brought back so many happy memories
I finished watching Waterworld for the first time this morning on Netflix (‘25). Thought about what the toys might look like and watch this video the same day.
I think thrift stores need to find a middle ground - I don't blame them for researching the aftermarket prices online, but they need to offer some discount to incentivize customers to buy from them. That said, the benefit of buying in person at the store is no shipping cost.
@Retrophoria That depends where you live, I suppose. There's also the ability to see it in hand. It kind of evens out, but I think they'd do better making it a *little* cheaper.
I have several savers stores around me and while my finds are far and few between I'm always popping in but there are plenty of people that stalk these places looking for stuff to resell. That being said though I have found a great bag of star wars clone troopers and droids before having some modern figures in it for like $5, I found the star wars rebels phantom ship for $4 and my best find (while I was running in to buy a shirt for my son who had just thrown up on himself) was a Star tours Star speeder 1000 vehicle for $3.99 🎉. It was missing pretty much all the accessories but it had the main top panel and when I got it home I was able to clean up the battery compartment and the lights and sounds still worked 🙌
I remember that UFO one. A friend of mine as a kid had that. There were a couple other vehicles of the same brand as well. A cool little nostalgia piece there for sure. 😁
Everybody that thrifts to resell has made the thrift shops realize they are missing out. There are still people just looking for stuff for their collections, or just a decent deal on an item, but there are also the “hunters” who have turned this into their living, and it is viable enough where thrift stores realized they could make some extra too. I didn’t realize how pervasive it was til a couple years ago. My oldest was in high school and always liked to go to one church sale before Christmas. It was usually items that the local Ivy leagues school’s students would donate (used to be years ago they just tossed it and early resellers would be dumpster diving) as they did not have enough room to take back the stuff they had acquired over the school year. She would try to pick up some designer clothes like a Plato’s closet sells now. She said in the last few years the line to get in was started at 2 hours before the sale opened, and most of the people in line were adults, many of them in their 40’s and up. She started paying attention to conversations the past year and it was all about what these people had gotten at sales or free and resold. I am 70 minutes from toy federation now and considered hunting for some toys. I have noticed though that at least two of their regulars I have seen selling on toy Fed are at the local flea markets and already been thru the place by time I arrived. One of them has a small toy store himself. Now a days you have to be real lucky or all in I guess🤷🏼♂️
Here in the UK I struggle to even find toys in our charity shops, most now go's straight on ebay and if its out for sale the prices are inflated across the board . Oh and can we get a rom collection so far episode 😊
I used to thrift back in the day like in the mid 90's these were times when they weren't hip to the gems that they're pricing at a ridiculous amount,,, this is why I don't shop at thrift stores anymore,😥
We just lost the voice of the most powerful man in the universe he-man aka John Erwin the voice of he-man at the age of 88 I just read it yesterday so rest in peace he-man
From my experience, it's all about population levels and how savvy the owners are to the current running pop culture desires that the average person has. I went to Louisiana a few years back and the best toy finds were at a lot of the humid and open door barn flea markets. If you weren't looking for mint in box you'd find some insane and very odd older toys for next to nothing.
Savers prices are whack!!! I saw a used Lakers leather jacket for $300 and an obviously fake Louis Vuitton bag for $75! It’s ridiculous for donated items!
What I think is wild theres a certain ch that the guy buys crazy rare toys at every show he drops a grand almost every video... I have a small toy store and toys barely sell... its the ultra rare everyone wants and all in all toys are slowing down big time compared to other stuff I sell.... and the hard toys are getting near impossible to find. I have tons of old toys but doesn't mean people are buying them....
Savers near me can be hit or miss. There's a handful of resellers that scour it daily. I have found a few cool things like vtg TMNT wilton cake pan, Garfield Alarm Clock, a bag of GUTS figures, vtg strawberry shortcake, 70s Barbie, Muppet Babies vtg puzzle, vtg goosebumps books, sometimes vintage plush. Keep in mind I never find that much in one visit, sometimes theres nothing at all, or it is priced higher than i would like. One time they had a 70s 8 track robot toy but wanted 30 bucks for it so I had to leave it behind.
Price ranges aren't bad, the problem is every loose action figure is the same price.... And ya Slackers went more card base, great place to trade magic the gathering so store credit prob drove up prices...
THESE ARE DONATED GOODS TO A NON PROFIT COMPANY. I DONT UNDERSTAND EBAY PRICES AT SAVERS. This has been bothering me for soooooooo long. It makes the random scores more enjoyable, but it’s still not right
It’s getting harder and harder to find better deals these days. Over the last couple years the prices have been creeping up in thrift stores. 2 years ago I bought a few gallon bags of Nickelodeon turtle figurines for like $8 a bag of 4. Now they tend to either over price them, or individually sell them at near EBay prices. Definitely a different story these days.
I find it hit and miss. I check my local Value Village regularly, and often strike out, but it's worth it because of the times i still find a gold mine of figs for cheap like Dan did 10 years ago. A few years back I found several $3 baggies of vintage GI Joes, and didn't realize until I got home that buried in one of the bags was a vintage Kenner Boba Fett. It seems like the prices sometimes really depend on who is working and in charge of doing pricing on certain days. For instance, I recently saw a bag of 4 WWE elites hanging there in decent condition for the same price as a broken basic WWE fig that was next to it. 🤷 I don't have alot of options in my area so it's always worth checking for that occasional big score

What changes have you seen in toy collection? Good or bad.
Prices ^^^^
Bad in my opinion 😕
Investors coming in. I saw it happen in guitars 20 years ago
I think it is ridiculous that thrift stores are asking eBay prices especially since someone donated it to the store to be sold they definitely need to go back to the bag bundles of toys for few bucks like they use to do if I want to pay eBay prices I’d shop from home on eBay
Pee-Man, LOL! Top-notch dad joke, Dan! 😆😎🙌👑👊🔥
And RIP Mr John Erwin, the original voice actor for He-Man in the 1983 series! 🙏🖤❤️

Yeah, I find that thrift store, flea markets and antique stores are clearly researching their prices.
They really don't want to leave any meat on the bone for flippers. A kid down the street from me growing up had that space station.
Slackers is always my first top on Free Comic Book Day
Hi Pixel Dan, I totally agree with you, things have changed and not only in collecting, in daily living and in the global economy as well, I hope one day things will improve, stay heavy and blessings to the Pixel family too! 🙏
Oh man! Had that UFO growing up! Instant memory unlock. Will have to track one down now 😂
I use to work at a goodwill. Alot of vintage toys toss in the trash 😢
That is very sad.

Totally excellent🎉🎉🎉🎉👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿💯
Memory unlocked with the ufo. I had this whole set when I was a kid. I just went and ordered a set from ebay. I can't believe I forgot about these
Tag sales and thrift stores have all lost their minds with their pricing.
I finished watching Waterworld for the first time this morning on Netflix (‘25). Thought about what the toys might look like and watch this video the same day.

What you save on shipping you spend on time and gas so It still should be much cheaper.
@Retrophoria That depends where you live, I suppose. There's also the ability to see it in hand. It kind of evens out, but I think they'd do better making it a *little* cheaper.

Thrift Stores are becoming the only places left to go. That’s the problem.
I remember that UFO one. A friend of mine as a kid had that. There were a couple other vehicles of the same brand as well. A cool little nostalgia piece there for sure. 😁
It's awesome to see you were in Fairview Heights!!!
Don't worry, your content is far from ancient, it's just a little vintage, perfect with the toys.
Hi Dan, Did you see John Erwin passed away ? Very sad news. Thanks for the video.
Ahhhh that UFO! I had that as a kid. Loved it.

The space station ufo totally looks like a dragonball z vehicle
I swear my Savers prices are not that bad...sometimes bad, but, not this bad! Yikes. :(
We just lost the voice of the most powerful man in the universe he-man aka John Erwin the voice of he-man at the age of 88 I just read it yesterday so rest in peace he-man
The 6.50 Skeletor had a 4 bucks shipping, so he was more expensive then the one you found.
I had that UFO and the playset it was awesome and was used by so many different toy lines.
From my experience, it's all about population levels and how savvy the owners are to the current running pop culture desires that the average person has. Interesting video, i never heard of tgis chain , im in illinois 😊
96 star wars toys i could get 3 figures for 20 dollars. 😢😢
Now 1 figure 25 dollars😢
Love your toy hunts Pixel Dan
Awesome pickups.

My latest find was the micro machine Chinook helicopter. In mint condition for $2.99 . Im keeping it but resell value is about $25 to $30.
Price ranges aren't bad, the problem is every loose action figure is the same price.... And ya Slackers went more card base, great place to trade magic the gathering so store credit prob drove up prices...

Dan you're crazy. I thought I had a bad but you're buying stuff you already have just because it shocked you there
I have the the little playmates figures with jets packs 2 of them I would like to donate to you? How do I do so

Like you just said. That was a few years ago. Geezus. He is asking about 2025 dumdum.
Thrift stores would be better in America, they've always been terrible in Canada in my experience.
the global economy is in the 🚽
15 minutes yapping 2 minutes toy hunting..
Speaking of shady toy shop owners…. There’s a guy here in my hometown that owns a vintage toy store and arcade.
About a week ago, I was shopping in an Ollies bargain store that’s right next to our mall where his vintage toy store is located….. While I was shopping I noticed he was in there as well doing a little bit of his own toy shopping… At the time I thought to myself “how cool to see a owner out here doing some shopping for his own personal collection”….. well…. Lil did I know as soon as I got home and got on social media and looked at his Facebook I saw that the items he had purchased at Ollie’s we’re now listed in his store as if they were new items in his store.
So in a nutshell, I had basically caught the guy red-handed walking across the street and buying toys at a cheaper price so that he could take them back across the street to his store to mark them up for a higher profit margin…. 🤣😂🤷🏽♂️ I’m not sure what I’m more amazed at… His tactics… or that people don’t realize what he’s doing…. 🤯🤷🏽♂️🤣😂
It is called resourcing dude…same thing as if you saw him at the thrift store doing the exact same thing. Geez
@ congratulations on totally missing my point….! 🤦🏽♂️ resourcing at a thrift store requires more skill to locate rare collectibles. Shopping at Ollie’s requires zero skill when resourcing collectibles…. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️Because even a five-year-old could resource collectibles from Ollies.
Cry about it
15$ for a bendy is too much, really? How much do you sell yours for? I bet more than 15$.
Dude, it's a modern figure.
The point is that you can buy that figure in a four pack for $25 or less at Walmart.
For the Algorithm 🫡
