  • I had heard this many times before. The one thing that becomes precious at the end of life .... is time.
And to waste it for something so meaningless, its hard to put into words, but then this masterpiece of movie magic so eloquently delivered those lines.
"What me worry?" Alfred E Neuman
Enjoy these short clips on this very subject matter.
Tom Hanks: Why aren't you worried
    Mark Rylance: Does it help.

One might argue that at the end of one’s life, there isn’t anything left to worry about. One looks back over a road already travelled. From that perspective, I’m sure many worries seem futile, because the outcome worried about is now known. One didn’t know that at the time, of course. Which is the point. Everyone gets a first class degree from the university of hindsight.

I keep telling my wife (a born worrier) that worrying is thinking about something you can’t do anything about, because if you could do something about it you would and then you wouldn’t be worried anymore. I’m 62 and when I think back through some of the things I have worried about in the past I realise I’m still here so those things couldn’t have been that bad. Perhaps that’s why generally the older people get the less they seem to worry about stuff.

I often hear people say that they would only regret the things that they didn’t get to do. If only it was that simple. Many of the things we would like to get to do cost money, the kind of money most simply do not have. I would like to visit many places around the world, but i can’t afford it. I would like a big house, and a nice new car, but i can’t afford it. The list goes on. It is acceptable to regret not doing things you wanted, if finance and time allowed you to. But i could never regret not doing something i could not afford, or had too little time to.
