It's kinda hard to believe, but I used to watch Wild America when I was a little kid. At 64yrs I can still watch these episodes with that same child-like wonder and excitement.

Marty is the man......he got footage no one else could..hes a legend
He staged places. Episodes scripted before. Animals can be get from zoos you know. Common thing in "good old days".
The film footage is absolutely amazing. As if they could foresee the future coming.
I was in the 4th grade and never miss on channel 25 PBS. Every Saturday night at 7. Enjoy it.
I don't remember a show called wild America. I'm the same age. But we watched Wild Kingdom every sunday with Marlin Perkins and his helper Jim who did all the dirty work while Marlin bumped his gums. But it was a great family show. It warmed the family up for Disney's Sunday Movie!
I'll never forget the episode where Jim fought the 25-30 foot python. He was a badass mofro! I'm going to search for that episode right now. 😊
I was mistaken. Hadn't seen that episode in nearly 45 years. It was a giant 200 pound Anaconda. Marlin actually helped Jim catch it and bag it.

Marty, my hat's off to you, my family and I always watched "60 minutes"and when that show was over,"Wild America" came on and we were glued to the TV, I myself was inside the tv.Your show's on Wild Life were A1 #1 and right now I'm watching your show on,"Wolverines".

I'm 64 this year and have gone through a number of careers. One thing I began as kid was voracious reading. I've read 5 sets of Encyclopedias, which is crazy but I learned a lot.
My favorite family of animals has always been Mustelids, or weasels. And the king of all land weasels is the wolverine. I've climbed mountains on 2 continents, North and South America. I've encountered every bear species on those continents too. Even the polar bear I came within 250 feet of, or the grizzly that was 200 meters away from me scared me as much as meeting a wolverine. I had a 30-06, with a 10 round magazine, and a Colt Combat Commander on my hip. The guns didn't matter. If the wolverine had wanted to tear me to shreds, it would have, no doubt about it.
I don't scare easily, I've served in combat all over the world. I survived because I learned from both my military trainers and my Cherokee grandfather who made through WWII just fine.
None of it mattered when the wolverine was staring me down and snarling.
Hearing Marty Stouffer made this even better. I loved these shows back in the day and am glad to have found them again.

@Wild America Animal Channel The odd thing is the place I ran into the wolverine was the exact place I'd run into a grizzly near the day before.
The grizzly had been ripping apart a young elk and since I was a fair distance, roughly 200 yards and had stopped instantly upon smelling grizzly urine, then had seen the bear and begun slowly backing away. The grizzly was far too busy eating, that by the time he looked up again, I was not in sight.
Imagine my surprise to find a wolverine in place of the grizzly the following day. There were a few things that added to my fear of the giant weasel that day, like: the snarling as he ate, the crunching of the bones as he kept at the carcass, the furtive looks the wolverine gave me over the top of the elk's rib cage, and, ultimately, his jog toward me with something hanging from his teeth.
I became intrigued, along with afraid, as he blithely came in my direction. As the wolverine got closer, I began to make out what he had in his clenched jaws. An elk face. That's right. An elk face. He just came jogging by. With an elk face in his jaws. I had never seen an elk's face separated from its body before. Never. Then. After the wolverine had gone on its merry way, it occurred to me that I had never thought of those two words together before either. Elk face. Odd, right? Another thing I thought of was, why hadn't the grizzly eaten the elk face? I mean, the grizzly could easily have done that, so why didn't the bear do that? It just struck me as strange. Wouldn't you agree?
That road killed deer is mighty limber to have spent the night below freezing.

You're walking a fine line between confidence and crazy when you haul a deer carcass INTO the winter wilds.
Yepper, been there done that as a 12 year old hunting with my Brother. We found a deer a mile from home down in the wild plums. It had been wounded but was still able to walk. All we had was a 22 rifle, my brother shot it; I cleaned it. We found a Ginormous Hoe with a still metal pipe handle hidden in the rock wall on the Meadow. I looked around and found some Wild Grape Vines. I tied the legs of the deer to the hoe with the vine; we swung it between us and trudged home. Reflecting now, that was super risky.

Great video, film footage. Love the tenacity of the Wolverine, the Fox and even the Snow Rabbit. All knew how to move, seek, and use their innate instincts. I had not heard that theme song in a long, Long time. Took me back to my child hood, watching the neighbors T.V.; we didn't have one. They were a half-mile walk, unless you knew and used the Short-Cuts. Colorado Memories...

This show was way ahead of its time Now you have Wild China Wild Russia Wild Hawaii Wild Pacific and a few others I can’t think of right now but Wild America was the original💯

Those dogs can put any human runner to absolute shame---Usain Bolt included. Recommended reading "A Hound of Hell Fights for His Life" Literary Digest 1930s account of one wolverine whipping five large Malemutes. Their injuries included a broken jaw.

A wolverine was spotted around the lake Tahoe area a few years back so that might be a good sign that their numbers are improving.

The best real time real life videos, I ever saw, on the Wolverine is The History Channel Mountain Men. "Marty" is a fireman, helicopter pilot, trap line trapper who deals with Wolverines on his trap lines. One waited and sat for hours in front of Marty's tent waiting for him to come back from his trap line. He's experienced with them and says when a Wolverine knows you're trapping, you have to leave because they are relentless and outsmart you every possible way. Really good watching ‼️

I have seen three wolverines in my lifetime. All wild and in Ontario, Canada.
And now I know why the University of Michigan doesn’t use one of these as a mascot!

I didn't know what I was looking at but this past winter I absolutely saw an albino wolverine in Northeast Pennsylvania. I was describing it to someone who told me I should checkout wolverines, but this was white! I've been in and out of these woods my whole life and I've never seen anything like it. I instantly knew it could rip me apart if it wanted to just by the way it moved, walked and was built. Whether or not they are breeding here, I don't know but i know what I saw at 1am across the street and I watched it move for about 15 minutes. I tried to get a photo or video but my camera was picking up a street light. I was NOT getting any closer to it either. I really wish I knew what it was at the time but I'm also glad it can keep staying elusive!! I didn't know that albino wolverine existed until I found a taxidermy photo of one, that is EXACTLY what I saw! I heard several unknown animal screams and I know it was a wolverine now, after watching videos and hearing audio. Absolutely awesome they're spreading out!

The information in this documentary is outdated. We know more about wolverines now.
Couple things I’d amend:
Wolverines are actually excellent hunters, just not of small prey. They scavenge, but they also kill larger prey that it can ambush, such as dear. In fact they are referred to as greedy, because they will often kill one dear, and then, without stopping to eat, kill five more in a row. Accept they really aren’t gluttonous, because in the boreal zones, it can bury all six deer deep in snow and the food will last them a very long time. It will return to eat every part of those dear, including the teeth and bone. They have been documented to have even killed polar bear, moose, and black bear.
It manages this because the large animals may not see it as a threat, and so don’t run away. Smaller animals are too fast for it to catch. They are extremely agile, have specialized fangs and bone pulverizing molars, and razor sharp, semi retractable claws. They are part of the mustelid genus, because they have an inordinate amount of fast twitch muscle per lb of body weight. So they can latch onto a deers neck, sink its teeth into the deers throat, and resist all the animals attempts to shake free. This is essentially how it kills all large animals.

They’re getting closer again to Michigan with one wonderer making it to just north of Detroit and a bunch of sightings getting closer down both sides of big lake . Hopefully they’ll be back in the Midwest soon
3 years ago I called Minnesota DNR because I'll swear on a stack of Bibles that I saw one at night crossing our path on a remote road outside of Ely MN. I had a spotlight in my truck and I put it on him. The DNR said that I probably saw a Ferrell cat. Ely is approximately 20 miles from Canadian border.

I can recall Marty Stouffer from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. The title of the series must have been changed for the purpose of prevention of copyright infringement. Loved the program. Marty Stouffer's voice was remarkable for it's originality and ideal as the announcer and narrator of these programs and many others. His is a memorable voice. They don't make programs like this any longer. It's just all about excessive greed and money now, not about creating exceptional, quality entertainment and informative programming. My father often spoke about the ferocity of wolverines with admiration during my childhood. Sad about them and their scarcity. However, I didn't care for this particular episode of the program, however real though because the hare couldn't outrun and escape the fox as captured in graphic detail by the camera.

@@captainamericaamerica8090 Barivel cats get up around 12-25lbs. Bobcats 8.8-35lbs for a female. Certain places where I live they get massive. But doesn't mean he is wrong, a scarce population of prey can cause them to be very small. Most people do not get Predators size is dictated on prey populations. That is why wolves get massive in the US besides having the largest wolf species the North Western Wolf which 170lb avg. So he technically isn't wrong. He just didn't go into detail. Or at the time he didn't know, the Wolf super sized problem started getting noticed like 10 years ago when articles started coming out. It's because they didn't allow tags for wolves when reintroduced, so prey populations got hit hard, which allowed massive individuals to be protected. Which means more prey is being eaten. Hunters got really mad over it. Wildlife conservation has fixed problems and caused more. By moving animals out of their natural habitat for Alaska. Now certain animals like Mountain Goats can
only be hunted in Alaska consistently tags could pop in 2-3 years, and impossible for their natural habitat, which is like a 20 year wait where I live.

In the state i liv in we have fox, bobcats, lynx, badgers, wolverines coyote, wolves, black bear, cougar, grizzly, and a lot of deer and elk..
