Not sure it does, and this is a rather Disney-fied view of a profound work, possibly the second of a pair along with the magnificent Symphony 45 in f# minor (‘Farewell’). The first movement is tense, turbulent, extreme in expression and anything but ‘stately’. Neither does it really have a ‘grandeur’ - that was reserved for the ceremonial trumpets and drums C major works like Symphony 48. There is a slightly disturbing melancholy and poignancy in the second movement. The Minuet is far from routine and is somewhat enigmatic in the Trio. The finale is an astonishing and challenging movement including the only ever return of material from the Minuet before Beethoven 5. There is much more, and certainly much more in it than you would find in any symphony produced for any German/Austrian court elsewhere (including Salzburg). Hope that’s helpful in finding something more in this exceptional, and quite challenging sturm und drang symphony.
