Translation from person who recorded the original: I uploaded a video and image of the damage situation in the Maebara area and Yamadahama area of Naraha Town, Fukushima Prefecture during the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011.
Currently, I'm still in evacuation due to the nuclear disaster, and my work is closed, and it's very difficult to pay the Internet connection fee, but I heard that there is too little damage information in Naraha Town, so the only place I filmed was in the Maehara area and the Yamadahama area. But I uploaded it because I thought I could be of help to someone.
Naraha Town is my hometown, and my workplace is also Naraha Town. At the time of the earthquake, I was at work and was outside the building, but it was shaking so loud that I thought the ground would break.
A tsunami warning came out on the disaster prevention radio in the town, so I quickly evacuated to a hill, but my home was completely washed away by the tsunami, and my neighbor's older sister went missing, and about a month later, the body was found.
As of May 21, 2011, there were 12 deaths and 2 missing people in Naraha Town.
There has been a change. As of June 8, 2011, there are 11 deaths and 2 missing in Naraha Town.

Sorry, meant to send that message to the creators of this channel, their name was at the top so I thought the comment was theirs. No offence meant👍

If anyone isn't sure, you are not seeing waves crashing in the distance at first. It's a cloud front and it comes ashore around the 5 minute mark

Fascinating, not seen that one before.
If you drove a car at a tree at 100mph, 95% of the time the tree won't budge (and the car won't forgive you). This tsunami took trees out like they were made of balsa wood.
Crazy energy release transference from tectonic plate to ocean to coastline and inward.

This is why I watch these videos. My mind just can't comprehend that energy and the vastness of the oceans power. I am very saddened by the human tragedy of it also, of course, but to me these videos are invaluable.

I am so sorry. I hope that you have been able to recover some of what you lost, and that your life is pleasant and comfortable now. The images of this catastrophe and the terrible stories people have told about what happened to them will stay with me forever.

Up to 1:51 the quality is great, then it switches to B&W with endless panning of the same area. Finally @ 4:35 it goes back to color. Focus disappears @5:53 and never reappears. It is like two different photographers that have cut and pasted their videos together. Still, you do get some idea of the size of the wave as it hits and it shows the river running backward (which it will do for 4 more miles!)

its just ..... speechless.. It didnt seem so bad until i saw that wave compared to 12-15m tree... Its just un-express-able to see it in video😔 I cant imagine these poor boys looking how everything they was building for generation is beings wiped away right infront of their eyes.. Its sounds like cliché but i can feel with them even 12 years on🙏

I agree. I respect and admire the Japanese people for how well they behaved when this happened - despite unspeakable misfortune and stress.

Why is so much of this video of poor quality? The original was not like that. Is this because you are always editing the videos? In some of them, for example, you appear to zoom in, so we see more action, but the quality is worse.

No, because the man recording this said that the first video he used his high quality digital camera, but then it ran out of battery, so he used his mobile phone which was in bad quality, it was 2011, so high quality and low quality videos are obviously present
Since the original aspect ratio was full, but it was uploaded as a small video, he fixes the ratio so we can get the best view
And I do hope that people will care about the cameraman’s wellbeing as much as they care about the camera being too shaky or low quality

@@typicalgamerkid1012 Well, I never complain about the shaky tsunami videos considering there were ongoing aftershocks, the wind was often blasting the person holding the phone or camera, and the world appeared to be ending.
However, modifying the aspect ratio is probably why some of these videos appear in a lower resolution. I shouldn't assume that "Archive" implies the original, unaltered videos, though. After 10+ years, it's very difficult to find those.

@@northascrowsflyThey link the originals in the description btw. The second link they provided is also in lower resolution footage, same aspect ratio.
