  • www.hardknock.tv Exclusive in-depth interview with Hopsin at his studio. Part 3 of this very candid interview starts with Hopsin telling Nick Huff Barili what inspired him to write ILL MIND OF HOPSIN 6. "I had a friend that I grew up with...he was like one of the closest friends I ever had in my life...he got into crystal meth and he started hanging out with the wrong people...eventually he went down the wrong road...and overdosed a few times." Hopsin details how crystal meth not only effected his friend but those around him. Hopsin wanted to release this cautionary tail in memory of his homie and to awaken fans who might be going down the same road. Hopsin goes on to address RUclips comments that claim that he is "preachy" by stating that he is everything. "I'm preachy. I'm goofy. I'm looney. I'm emo. I'm a hardcore rapper. I'm a softcore rapper. I'm everything. I'm a f@#$ing Human. I have many emotions...Whatever my emotions are feeling that's what I do." Hopsin states that he produced all of the Knock Madness album and that the only non Funk Volume appearance on the album is Tech N9ne. While talking about features on the album Hopsin said that Macklemore was one of the artists that he wanted to get but that the timing didn't work out. Hop goes on to address Lord Jamar's statements that Macklemore is pursing some kind of "Gay Agenda" and that whites should not have a say in Hip Hop because they did not create it and should "stay in their lane". Hopsin says that Hip Hop has evolved. "Its about humans being equal. That shouldn't be brought up. That's racist...Its 2013 is somebody really talking like that?" Hop says that Eminem changed his life and inspired him to "become something more than what I was." When asked what he thinks of the new tracks Eminem has put out (Rap God, Berzerk), Hop states that he prefers the older Slim Shady but that he will like anything that Eminem puts out because that is how big of a fan he is.
    We are just getting started. We talked to Hopsin for more than 2 hours as he opened up about a series of topics. Tune in next week for part 4 with Hopsin only at www.hardknock.tv

    I relate to Hopsins story and music so much. And I’m thankful for him as an artist. He’s not afraid to put his pain out there in his lyrics and musical works for the world to hear and relate to. And if you don’t relate, well guess what, he didn’t make it for you anyway. That takes courage you know. He is a true artist, in every sense of the word.
    As someone who has seen many close friends take dark paths, many not just lost but buried, starting from when I was a child, then when my friends and I we were in our early teens and early 20s, I 💯 relate to what Hop is saying here. Many were lost to drugs and overdoses, many to illness and disease, one to murder, one to a car accident, one to suicide, one an ex husband who just died in January of Covid along with his mother within days of each other, and as someone who lost perhaps the greatest friend I’ve ever had, my father who died two years ago, I can tell you it never hurts less. The saying that time heals all wounds is BS. You just learn to live with the pain, and put it away, so you’re able to go on living. But those memories hurt forever. I’m teared up just writing this.
    The first friend I lost was when I was 6 and he was 7. His name was Tyler Buckman. An only child, he was like a brother to me. My Mom babysat him when his mom was at work. So we spent every day together. Then he got sick. He died two years later from Leukemia. My son Tyler is named after him. Then the summer I was 14, a dear friend of mine who was 15, Chad Wyman, was brutally murdered. The last time we spoke we left off on a not good note. And then he was dead. And he died in a horrific way. It broke me at the time. It changed me. I mourn him to this day. Then it was just loss after loss after loss. Lost a lot if friends to heroin and cocaine. One to drunk driving. Two, brothers, lost to alcohol mixed with their lifelong diabetes which resulted in organ and kidney failure in their 30’s. They died just a couple years ago. Then one of the brothers wives died a year after her husband from an overdose that was likely intentional. A lot of friends and loved ones lost to mental illness, and one friend who just could not take the weight of clinical depression anymore and tragically ended her own life when we were 23, substance abuse and overdose, recklessness and disease. And the losses continued the rest of my life all the way to now. Almost all my old friends and all my family are dead. My Uncle died just this past December from cancer, two years to the day that my Dad passed.
    But all is not lost. Because what it all taught me is, never leave things on a bad note with the people you love. You never know when the last time you speak to someone is the very last time you will ever speak to them. Life is short, tomorrow isn’t promised, love and live like each day is a gift, be kind and emotionally generous to those you love, tell them you love them, hug them, tell and show them how much they mean to you, live every day like it’s your last. Because one day, it really will be. And someone will be writing a RUclips comment about how much they miss you. 😢

      Hexwy Crystal meth and meth are fundamentally the same thing. Crystal meth or 'crystal' is referring to the crystal form meth sometimes comes in, it is also found in pills,capsules and a bitter tasteing powder. Your best bet is to just say meth that way you can cover a broader scale of the different forms it comes in. It is usually snorted, a stimulant and legally prescribed as a drug for ADD under the name Desoxyn. It is illegal without a prescription.

    And that's a Real Emcee Hop, someone that touches on all elements of Hip Hop, also the forgotten element, "KNOWLEDGE" Which is also teaching, so if an Emcee doesn't teach in some way or another, then Truly that person has NO REAL REASON TO BE RAPPING, EXCEPT FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL SELFISH GAIN! But that Guy that puts the kids and listeners in mind when he is rapping, that is a TRUE EMCEE! Like Lupe Fiasco, Hopsin, Eminem, Common, Mosdef, Nas, and others! But the ones that only spit about cars, hoes, money, drugs, and killing, well that shit is bunk! Call me a hater, but I prefer that dude that actually THINKS when he writea!

    Its true, Eminem is a very good rapper but to be honest , its not like it ones was. He can do better than what he does now.
    You can clearly hear that he still has the talent just that his old stuff was better in my opinion. If he wants he can do it ones again.

    • @stevenyoka341
      @stevenyoka341 9 лет назад +1

      Is his new lyrical flow too much for you? Or how about how lyrically strong he is now? Eminem has obviously changed over the many years that he's been in the game but i believe it was for the better. The fact that he got clean helps the message that he likes to promote in his music which is "you can do anything you set your mind to" if feel like he was better in the 90s than you probably just can't comprehend the words that he's using.

    • @vintageman91
      @vintageman91 9 лет назад +1

      Talking about lyrical flow, i have an extreme flow myself, packed with rhymes after rhymes so im used to rapid flow packed with tons of rhymes. Of course im not on the same level as him but i still prefer his old stuff. I think he is a bit too mainstream now.

    • @stevenyoka341
      @stevenyoka341 9 лет назад +1

      MC Taipan he may be mainstream but that doesn't affect his skill. That's like saying tupac or biggie smalls were bad because they're mainstream now

    • @vintageman91
      @vintageman91 9 лет назад

      No its not the same, Biggie and pac rapped about other things, things that was more the deal back then. In the 90s the rap game was in general more relevant and even the mainstream had better standards (not always).Skills is within the message in the lyrics aswell and Eminem still have some good messages in his songs but i think the beats in his songs sounds too mainstream and i think he should have skipped to work with wayne. Hes has a more RNB like style now.

    • @stevenyoka341
      @stevenyoka341 9 лет назад +2

      You're fucking stupid sir. Hiphop is not about the beat at all. If you want meaningful lyrics then pay attention to the lyrics. Fuck the beat. I've never listened to a rappers song and said "oh this song is wack asf because the beat is mainstream" its about the lyrics not the beat and if you want beats maybe you belong in dubstep not hiphop. Why would he work with someone as horrible as lil Wayne when he is lyrically better than almost anyone in the game? He should only be working with artists like Tech n9ne, Hopsin, Nas, ect. You've gotta realize that hiphop is changing and I'm not sure if you can tell but he clearly doesn't plan on changing with it.

    all these idiots in the comment sections don't even know what lord jamar said, all he said is that hip hop is black music (which it is) and that white people need to respect the hip hop culture, he was dissing macklemore not eminem, he said eminem is in the good lane because eminem idolised 2Pac, Biggie etc, while most modern rappers just idolise eminem and act as if he is hip hop, and he also stated how macklemore was pushing gay agenda because it was a thing of the moment,

    • @xPeriishHD
      @xPeriishHD 10 лет назад

      triston eliftris yes but what Lord Jamar was saying is, Eminem grew up in the ghetto listening to pure hip hop, that underground lyrical shit that had passion in it, while most rappers nowadays only listened to eminem growing up thinking he was all their is to hip hop and show no respect to past rappers, like what about other legends that were more lyrical than eminem, GZA gets no respect, Big L was more lyrical than Biggie, Em and Pac and he gets no respect and he's also Dead,
      These modern day rappers are a bunch of money hungry people and their basically making Pop music with rhymes in them, Their lyrics and Techno beats attract white suburban kids who think they know hip hop and these lyrics are just degrading the youth

    • @YoungPixProductionz
      @YoungPixProductionz 10 лет назад

      xPeriishHD I can understand what your saying, but Macklemore was inspired by Wu-tang and even says it in "Can't Hold Us" which is easily his most popular song, But eminem is my favorite rapper but i understand the culture and respect the legends like Pac, Dre, A tribe called quest, Biggie, Jay Z, Run DMC, and the culture of hip hop goes beyond rapping as you might know, But by rapping aren't you already respecting the culture? i have a hard time understanding why you think Macklemore or anyone don't respect the culture, i know that there's eminem fans, and that's the only rapper they listen too, but i highly doubt that one would wanna be a rapper souly for the purpose of eminem, granted Hopsin was mainly inspired by Eminem but he knew about The Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, which exposed him probably too like Proof, D12, Xzibit, Tupac, Jay Z.

      They aren't spoken of because it's a topic of revolutionizing Hip-Hop, and Eminem did that with his extraordinary lyrical approach that no other white MC had done before him. So it's not about who started it, but rather who made it better...
      The reason Eminem is in a class by himself is because he was the first white man/MC to make black rappers want to rhyme similar or just like him. I'll say it again- Black rappers were IMPRESSED and wanted to rhyme like a white rapper in a black founded culture. That is a milestone of a humongous order.

      I actually hear Beastie Boys brought up in conversations often when all time best are discussed on tv and in conversations. Besides, all it takes is timing for an artist to become timeless and remembered. So rappers are ahead of their time, and some are just good enough for a single or two. They def helped Eminem, but the anti-gay lyrics and explosion of the internet are just two random factors to his success and notoriety. If he would have come out a few years before or after, perhaps his impact wouldnt have been as big..Not to mention the reemergence of the Westside scene, which funded much of his early work. Dre had the beats to help Eminem, and Em helped save Dre's career.

      That's true. Eminem was rapping about problems white kids in the Midwest dealt with like depression, suicide, and drug addiction. He also talked about hating/wanting to kill his mom (which is a big change from the usual "I love my mom" rap that to this day is still a popular and safe theme. Wish Em still had that same delivery and passion...But I guess that would also be asking him to be miserable and hate-filled again. Maybe he is in a better place emotionally now...

      +Bruce Wayne his wordplay wasn't really better tbh... He used to be a lyrical beast back in the past. Listen to infinite or biterphobia. first of all hopsin shouldn't say lord jamar of brand nubian is a racist and compare an interview to what went on in the 50's. lord jamar works with all types of white people being he is in the music industry. He has real hip hop head fans that are white. lord jamar never said white people shouldn't rap and didn't contribute nothing to hip hop. He simply said Hip Hop started with black people and macklamore's video with grown men kissing each other, is pushing Hip Hop in direction it hasn't gone on before, on a mass scale. I like hopsin's music and will continue to listen to him, but I don't respect him as a man, for that bullshit he just said.
