I am from Kolkata and have witnessed firsthand how people live in fear under Mamata Banerjee's regime. There's a pervasive sense of dread, especially among those who dare to protest against her or her party, the TMC (Trinamool Congress). There have been numerous instances where local goons, allegedly backed by her administration, have been sent to intimidate or harm those who oppose her. For example, I saw a group of around 500 people gathered aggressively in front of a family's house near mine, simply because they had spoken out against a local TMC MLA.
You may also recall the incident where a young boy was arrested for sharing a caricature of Mamata Banerjee, which only serves to underscore the oppressive atmosphere.
Hindus, in particular, feel vulnerable under her rule. There is a growing sentiment that our lives and concerns are disregarded, and many people are afraid to speak up, fearing retaliation. The electoral process itself is also under scrutiny, with widespread allegations that Mamata Banerjee's victories are often secured through illegal means.
Violence in West Bengal has been a matter of national concern, with reports of post-poll violence in 2021 grabbing headlines across the country. According to multiple sources, there were numerous instances of targeted attacks against opposition party workers and their supporters, with incidents of arson, assault, and even murder reported in various districts.
The fear among Hindu Bengalis is very real, as we dread the thought of mobs descending on our homes to vandalize our property if we express dissent.

Beg to differ, a girl got brutalised a few days before 15th August, the doctors are fighting for justice across India.. in the current scenario its a bit difficult to celebrate Independence Day.. and its nothing against India, our country has problems but then every country has problems... The feelings are dim because of the horrific incidence.. you dont feel like celebrating when you arent in the right state of mind... I have also often seen people from certain peaceful community who never give gali and always use respectful and high Urdu and look down upon us for giving gali but their mindset is such that they literally support Kashmiri Pandits being honoured during 1990’s, Pulwama medical aid by Pakistan, peaceful protests that Kasab did in India during 26/11, Bin Laden helping build those two buildings in US during 9/11, Hamas peacefully protesting against Israel, Taliban student body, etc cough cough ❤.
