Disney themed karting racer. This is a well produced game for the ole playstation with good sound and visuals and one of the last ps1 game from crystal dynamics. Its another mixed gfx mode game so if you want to aspect correct it, just set the video player to 16:9.
Don't let the Disney theme fool you, this is as frustrating, if not more so than most other karting games and way too difficult considering the age range the game is aimed at. The opponents can be blatantly unfair even when they are half a lap behind..
00:00:00 - Intro and first run through. In the first round I aim to get first place and get all firework machine parts as well as capture all fairies on every track to beat the game and show the credits. This means avoiding any shortcuts else I will likely miss a fairy. The jungle track is shown twice as a game bug prevented me from collecting all fairies by placing one in an impossible area to reach on the first run.
01:00:57 - Completing the game unlocks Jiminy Cricket which I use from now on. Now I go back into the game to collect 1st place flags by winning 1st place ....again. Following each race, I go back in and collect al the trophies. While I did not need to collect any or make any effort to collect fairies this time round, I found them considerably easier to collect the 2nd time round as they are placed pretty much in your path.
01:58:25 - Splash Mountain unlocked for getting all 1st place flags. I get the last fairy here to unlock X.U.D.71. I then complete the last trophy on space mountain to unlock Ned Shredbetter.
02:06:20 - The game is 105% fully completed now. No special ending. Just one last race to show Ned Shredbetter on Blizzard Beach. -

Add in Space Mountain, the music on this is Awesome! I never forgot it! Haunted Mansion is my 1st choice to race on usually and the song is so cool and fun. =) The Dinosaur one is great. I love them all for different reasons. I live that the title screen plays its a small world but why not have the race track? Why no Donald Duck and Mickey and Goofy? They chose a lot of characters no one would expect in the game which is clever but a new one needs to be put out with a lot of other characters and tracks and extras =)

@@spooders8424 Yes I agree that's why I edited my tv screen to be clearer.. Try that. Also use the Old Skool A/V to HDMI on a flat screen TV to play it so it is more clear. :)

I haven't played this in well over a decade and a half but the sounds and flashing colors are somehow ingrained into my memory. It all came rushing back as soon as I began watching this.
That 3D rendered Jiminy Cricket in the intro is terrifying.

A very underrated PSX racer, but holy shit is the AI brutal in this.
I remember playing this as a kid and being like I suck. I recently was able to come back and play it as an adult and I definitely agree with you. The ai in this game were absurd. I could have near flawless driving and look to my side once in a while seeing multiple ai passing me. So many wtf moments from this game. Overall though really good racing game and I had some awesome childhood memories on it.

Agreed. Just look at 30:00 until 30:53. Look at all the changes in position from 2nd to 6th and Chip needed last second luck at the finish line to win the race. admittedly, those acorns should have struck Jiminy when he was behind Chip.

Basically the key to winning races in this game is simply take the shortcuts on each lap so you can get well ahead of everyone else!

The coin collecting mission in Test Track, Typhoon Lagoon, and Disney Studios is very complicated.
2 decades later and suddenly i remember this game! I used to love discovering all the shortcuts and just exploring the haunted mansion, pretending i was in disney park.
Childhood classic! A lot of times I would play on time attack and just look at all the ride scenes; mainly Pirates and Haunted Mansion. "You'll be swimming with the sharks!"
Yo, I've been researching for years if that quote was actually used in the real ride. None of the old ride recordings says that. I still believe that at one point it was probably used. But who knows, since that ride is always updating with new stuff.

The nostalgia hits hard with this one! This game was so much better than Mario Kart 64 & Crash Team Racing at the time! Has to be the most underrated kart racer ever made
One of my favorite PS1 games ever. Great gameplay, very fun, nice soundtrack, amazing graphics for a PS1 and its very memorable. The only kind of thing that anoyed me is the AI. Its brutal. But great anyways.

This game is good, but it's really hard. The AI is ridiculously unfair on the difficulty as they constantly throw in weapons to slow you down.

Well, if they ever update/remake the game and re-release it, maybe they'll put in an option to let us choose the difficulty level we'll play on.

BlueDragon992 well I know for the first Kingdom Hearts game, one of the rules Disney had is that they weren't allowed to use Mickey's image except for one scene in the whole game. So maybe they had similar rules with the more popular characters for some earlier games like this

Haha I kid I kid... like... regarless of the rights issues, I think the new characters are kind of a nice touch. They're supposed to be kids who are visiting Disney World so it makes sense.
I know they were pretty much the developers' OCs but it'd still be kinda nice to have more info about em or some concept art of these guys (or at least some higher resolution drawings of them. When I drew Ned, it was a pain in the backside trying to figure out how his hat is supposed to work hah.)
royalties, say that for example one character is made by and owned by walt disney, someone working for him creates a new character, disney as a company owns the character but has to pay the person who created him royalties for every use.
its why you dont see massive crossovers in disney, marvel now owns almost all of its characters again aside from the spiderman series, so they can have huge crossovers, vs disney who cant due to the prohibitive cost of paying hundreds of people royalties.

It's so crazy to me that I remember playing this game. This came out in the year I was born, but it's one of those games that stand out in my early childhood memories. Amazing.

damn, I remember when I was 8 years old, my uncle gave me this game. I had the very first computer, a Pentium 4, a thick monitor.. MMM, nostalgia. The game was installed, but damn, the control buttons were not WASD and arrows, but 1 and 0 on the numeric keypad. I remember the first half hour of the game when I couldn't move my car and my dad was running around screaming, "I told you this game was shit!"
Oh man, I remember seeing this at a flea market. We were looking for some gamecube games that interested me and my brothers and I saw Jiminy Cricket... not gonna lie, I got terrified. I wasn't used to seeing CGi cutscenes in games

I have made it a tradition to play this game the night before I go to Disneyland with either family friends or my girlfriend. It’s not Disney World but that wouldn’t make me less excited regardless. I’m taking my girlfriend for her first time this September and I am going to have her play this game.
Didn't get to play this back in the day, so I'm sure it's not nostalgia speaking when I say that I think this really has a lot of potential for a re-release with improved graphics. I mean, some of the tracks are really nicely designed, so they would look gorgeous in HD. Also, I think it would be a nice chance to flesh out all the characters that aren't Chip, Dale or Jimminy.
How about in the ducktales reboot the Rescue rangers can be talked.

so glad i was born at the right year, did had my chance to play this legend game, good ol’days
i never realized how to unlock the robot back then. once i got ned (my favorite character) i left it for done. a few years later i realized you could unlock him collecting thr fairies/sparkles scattered around the track.
also this game has a easter egg. in 2 player mode the 2nd player had a delay after moving to the select track screen. you could choose any charactee you wanted during that period, from locked characters to even mirror the one 1p chose ver
I've never completed this game.. just look at haunted mansion and the AI, just ridiculous. But still great memories :)
Collecting 10 coins is key to winning as once you have 10 you're kart is faster and you can pull away quite quickly however if you get hit you lose you're coins and slow back down to you're normal speed so recollecting those coins is essential you also need to make use of the shortcuts particularly the ones with the blue rings as the AI can't go through these so try again why don't cha?

With a plot like this, I think this would have made a great platforming/exploration game, and with chip and dale being in the game, it would have been a great opportunity to make amazing 3D environments to explore based off of all the attractions at Disney World. Tomorrowland, Disney Safari, Adventureland, the list goes on. I'm actually a little disappointed they took the easy route and made it a racing game.

Years ago, I had a friend who played this game while I was at their house. It had a pretty unique and interesting story for a racing game.
For you Gex fans, the music that plays for the Dinosaur track should sound familiar to a Gex 2 level.

This is my childhood! I called my sister an asshole when we were kids because she kept beating me in races, and after that I learned that calling someone that is not good LOL.
The snow track uses the Christmas level music in Gex 3.
So it took me until today, to realize that the start up music before the count down to begin the race, is actually the first few seconds of Disney's Electrical Parade Intro.
Currently crying. They had this game in our hotel at my first stay at Disney world .
I remember using a lot the power up of the frog on some friends and laughing of It, so nostalgic!!!
