Sensational work, I've found myself disinterested in Photography content due to the constant screaming match for publicity, but you were made for this. And I can tell you're doing it because you want to. The research, narration, the re-creation, all top tier. Your content is a gem in a field of rocks.
I love these details you find and include, like the fact he used 100 rolls of film to get the bus shot. You hear similar stories about other photographers and the vast amounts of film they used trying to capture their most iconic work as well… it speaks to the dedication and work ethic of the photographer.
This was such a great feature on Trent Parke! I didn't know about him until this video. His work is gorgeous, thanks for spotlighting him! It was also really inspiring seeing you try to recreate his images.
Excellent video. Love your tone and voice. Your attempts to recreate the shots are one of the most educationally valuable things I've ever seen. Really gives an appreciation of the craft.
I couldn't agree more on my predecessors, thank you ever so much for your effort in providing us with such inspiring and detailed videos and insight on the work of these great photographers. Still one of my favorite channels by far!
Brilliant distillation of this portion of Trent Parke's work. Your shots were impressively successful. Thanks for this amazing series and the work you put into it. Bravo!
This is so amazing and inspiring. I remember when I began getting interest in photography and visual art, it was mainly through photoshop tutorials and imitation that I was able to develop my skill. Over the course of years, the learning has been through theory but that doesn't translate in creating pictures; it just improves them with a more critical eye. Imitating peers was one solid grasp but then its not too dignifying when you are just imitating your peer and becoming a second copy. A second copy of great industry leaders is another thing. So much to learn just in the process even if you fail to imitate it entirely. Elevates your skill to really high level, makes your work stand out, and even gives you that sense of how to approach the artform.
When I ear a piano concerto, I'm impressed both by the composer's and the performer's work. Same here. It's so good to watch a video of photo talking art and not gear.
fantastic, thank you. one thing that is still impressive about Parke's image of the shadows on moving traffic, is that there are perfect little people inside the larger shadow shapes... that part still blows my mind. your recreation definitely helps me start to understand it thought, thanks again. i can see why Parke said he didn't even understand what he was photographing or how it was happening. very cool
You really nailed it with the minivan photo! Trent Parke is a big source of inspiration for me and it was great to see the kind of work that goes in to replicating his technique.
Thank you for introducing brilliant photographers to more photography enthusiasts. Your dedication to recreate iconic shots are really impressive. God bless you.
once again my deepest respect for making an extremely informative video about a great photographer previously unknown to me and your excellent photographic skill in rearranging them. Many thanks for sharing the technical details behind, which allows the viewer to try to take similar pictures. Big kudos!
I really love your channel. You introduce me to so many photographers I was unaware of, you show me their work instead of just talking about them, I learn about their method, then I learn cool new ways to experiment when I go shoot. This is such great work, thank you!
I’ve just happened to find your channel by chance and luck. I am so appreciative that you analyze and recreate these inspirational photos and also take the time to document your efforts and findings. I’m hooked and given a new boost of creative appetite by your videos. Thank you so much. Your work is very much appreciated and unique.
Wow the work you put into these episodes, the narration, and the explanation are all incredible. I've been shooting for 10 years and feel like I'm learning so much and soaking up so much inspiration
Your channel is so underrated! Recently discovered it and discovered Trent Parke through it. Love the artist background, the breakdown, process and replication
90% of the photography content on RUclips is completely useless. I don't gain anything useful from it. You're in that 10% that is useful. What you do is brilliant actually. Most people know the basics but have trouble moving to the next level. The breakdowns you give of famous photographers' techniques give us ideas on how to make better images. Great stuff!
You had me riveted for every moment. An excellent video about two excellent photographs from an excellent photographer! Your reverse engineering is so educational. Thank you
Like others here I didn't know Trent Parke's work until now, so I'm delighted to have found this website demonstrating his patience and technique, and yours. Thank you.
You did an excellent job of recreating challenging images 👌 And thank you for bringing another great inspirational photographer to my/our attention. Love your channel - still my fave on photography.
I’ve been fascinated by Trent Parke’s photography for years now. Great video you made investigating how he made those 2 iconic photographs. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The other fortunate thing about Trent's bus shot is that there are people visible on the other side of the street framed nicely within the people's shadows on the bus. Very serendipitous! :)
As a fellow Torontonian and photographer, It was impressive to watch your process as you attempt to recreate these remarkable images. Well done... Just subscribed!
RUclips has just recommended the most interesting channel this year, so now I'm obliged to watch every film you've made. It is absolutely fantastic stuff!! I'm learning so much here, about people I've met never heard of, and of different perspectives on life. Thank you so much for your hard work 😁👍
Just wow! Love it! Just found your channel and have been binging all your videos back to back and I feel a changed person. Fabulously engaging, instructive and amazingly beautiful. You just gained another subscriber in the uk 👍
This is an absolutely brilliant video! This was a great introduction to the work of this photographer, and learning about the techniques used to create the two images was icing on the cake, truly useful and inspiring. Keep up the good work, your channel will surely grow with time!
Thanks for this excellent video. I never heard of this photographer before. Your videos are zo good with your calm narrations and a lot research to make this. You explained everything very well and great learning moments for me. Thanks for all effort you put in your videos.
I have done something similar to the glowing man since seeing this the first time. I used figures in coloured clothing, then processed in LrC. In black and white, I adjusted the brightness of select colours, and the overall exposure to get the dark look.
Thanks for this. Great mini documentary and great tutorial on creating the shots. It was interesting that Trent Parke said he couldn’t replicate it and even better for the insight that when you can’t repeat something you know you’ve really got something special. Im not in his league obviously but when I think of the shots Ive taken that I feel are something special, they are all something that you only get once.
🎉 you do an amazing job. In all photography channels I have been watching you do the most intimate encapsulation aka abstraction of what the photographer did and even emulate it ! Excellent execution. This is a pseudonym behind the red iron curtain talking pictures in China
The first picture of the recreation of the glowing man image is a very, very solid picture on its own. On the first glance it's confusing, what is the person looking at, what is going on in the background? But I think it's missing a vital part of the original: the shadow of the glowing man. Perfectly fitting in the sun shaft. Connecting his appearance to other passengers and giving this perfect negative flip to his original glowing silhouette.
Thank you so much for your videos, is so nice to be able to learn so much with them, I’ve been searching for ages for good photography content like that
This was an inspiring video and I’m enjoying your channel. There are a couple ways to overcome tripod wobble from a button press: remotes and setting a one second delay.
I lived in Newcastle and was surprised to see it mentioned after watching just two of your videos haha. I love the Moving Bus piece but feel the recreation of that one lacks the overlapping silhouettes. To me it kinda conveys some form of contrasting dominance, the trio larger than the rest on the left as they fade off to the right. Art is obviously subjective and I'm sure it wasn't the intent but yeah I can really get something out of it being how relaxed Newcastle is and how busy Sydney is.
Your research is impressive, not only of the artist but in the recreation as well. True dedication!!
You took the words out of my mouth!
Sensational work, I've found myself disinterested in Photography content due to the constant screaming match for publicity, but you were made for this. And I can tell you're doing it because you want to. The research, narration, the re-creation, all top tier. Your content is a gem in a field of rocks.
Right? People try to be so profound or loud and obnoxious or different for the sake of being different. This is a breath of fresh air.
I love these details you find and include, like the fact he used 100 rolls of film to get the bus shot. You hear similar stories about other photographers and the vast amounts of film they used trying to capture their most iconic work as well… it speaks to the dedication and work ethic of the photographer.
This brilliantly shows how great images often fall at the intersection between luck and patience. Thank you.
Well said!
''Luck is when effort meets opportunity''. This is probably the best way to describe masterpieces like this
This was such a great feature on Trent Parke! I didn't know about him until this video. His work is gorgeous, thanks for spotlighting him! It was also really inspiring seeing you try to recreate his images.
Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. Love your tone and voice. Your attempts to recreate the shots are one of the most educationally valuable things I've ever seen. Really gives an appreciation of the craft.
This is fantastic!!!! I'm embarrassed to say I've never heard of this photographer but he's quickly become one of my absolute favorites. Wow!!
I couldn't agree more on my predecessors, thank you ever so much for your effort in providing us with such inspiring and detailed videos and insight on the work of these great photographers. Still one of my favorite channels by far!
Thank you for watching!
That Solaire of Astora reference made me laugh hard. Well played, sir. Excellent video too.
Brilliant distillation of this portion of Trent Parke's work. Your shots were impressively successful. Thanks for this amazing series and the work you put into it. Bravo!
Mad respect. Im from Toronto as well and I just starting street photography this is such a good inspiration.

What an amazing deep dive video on photography !! And no talk about gear and pixels.

It really is mind blowing.
I just got here, and wow, just wow, your content pushes me to discover or learn my own style of photography, thank you!
You really nailed it with the minivan photo! Trent Parke is a big source of inspiration for me and it was great to see the kind of work that goes in to replicating his technique.
Yeah, it's hard not to feel inspired after hearing him talk about photography.

Great video and you captured these images very well. I can see that Trent is very driven and it requires a lot of patience to get the right shot.

The other fortunate thing about Trent's bus shot is that there are people visible on the other side of the street framed nicely within the people's shadows on the bus. Very serendipitous! :)
Thank you for introducing us to so many amazing people. As a creative this is a gold mine.
This was fantastic and your recreations really helped understand how the light worked in these scenes. Thank you
Loved this video. I really enjoyed how you walked through your thought process. It helps me learn as a photographer. Thank you!

you're my new favorite youtuber. I love that you worked through how to replicate their images. That would be a great exercise for e a photo course
I have done something similar to the glowing man since seeing this the first time. I used figures in coloured clothing, then processed in LrC. In black and white, I adjusted the brightness of select colours, and the overall exposure to get the dark look.
What an amazing process. You must be chuffed with the results!
Your shot at 8:10 is actually way better than the glowing man. Better composed and more interesting. Well done!
Thanks for this. Great mini documentary and great tutorial on creating the shots. It was interesting that Trent Parke said he couldn’t replicate it and even better for the insight that when you can’t repeat something you know you’ve really got something special. Thanks, I'll add him to the list!
