Although I had the opportunity to "see" that great generation of instrumental artists, viz., Ravi Shankar, Ali Akbar, Vilayet and Bismillah, playing mostly at "Gharoa asars' in the fifties and early sixties, but I always lament that I missed that golden period. History will always remember these uploadings. Others may also follow this example instead of keeping their collection in their closets. I have a small curiosity. Trained musicians often talked about two programmes on Raag Jay Jayanti by Pandit Ravi Shankar in the fifties. One is AIR National Programme and the other one at the Chhatu Babu (Ashutosh Deb) mansion on Beadon Street. May we know any more about this one? It is simply sublime.
Kunal Ghosh Early 1950s Panditji sometimes stayed in an apartment on Amir Ali Ave near Hazra Rd., Kolkata. Mr. Vaidu Sanyal a commercial photographer was well connected with music circles had his Studio on the ground floor of the same building. Vaidu-da recorded many house concerts of Panditji and my good guess is some of them took place in Panditji’s apartment.
Subrata Chowdhury Thanks for the information. I knew Vaidu Sanyal and I know that bulding also but never knew Panditji sometimes stayed there in the fifties. Some of my senior friends had close acquiantance with Vaidu Sanyal and his family. Let me see if more such gems can be unearthed!
@@kunalghosh448 Him and Annapurna set up their very first household there and the seeds of separation was sowed there too. Vaidu's studio downstairs wss named studio Renaissance.
@@arupsengupta2454 Studio Renaissance was there till the eighties, if I remember correctly. Thereafter we depended on one studio run by Vaidu da's assistant, on Ramesh Mitra Street.
