Lightbowgun.since mhfu im using this to crack some monster shell with crag or sticky ammo in mhw.sadly capcom they remove the rapid fire in clust and stcky.
TheVarkYouKnow i don’t think they play very similarly, honestly. They may seem similar on the surface, but the way you implement them effectively is very different.
Actually in the Japanese version they’re both respectively called Switch Blade and Charge Axe so it was probably just a mistake on one of the translator’s end
I've used a lot of weapons, but the Hammer has found me. The weapon legitimately feels like boxing. Landing those big hits while weaving until the monster is knocked out, allowing you to wail on the monster until it's back to trading blows. The hammer is the truth, the light, and the way.
I started off using the Lance but felt the need to drop dps and switched to the Bloodborne axe. Was fienting more than usual so moved on to the glaive for dmg and mobility. Now I'm on the heavy bowgun. My point is monster hunter is game of the year.
N7 Reaper good choice.bowgun actually iop in this game and less people apreciate that.light or heavy bowgun are op men bcoz they remove the gunner armor that makes the bowgun user easy to die and also i think capcom didnt want to buff the weapon bcoz of that reason also.imagine that if you bring back that sling ammo 99?freaking op right
There's a mistake at 7:10 where it is indicated under Switchaxe that it "morphs to a shield." I assume this bit of information was meant to go under Charge Blade.
+Your Dad I'm actually going for a diablos shatterer right now, got the kulu hammer II. Not too far into the game, but I'm enjoying it so far. One thing I'm not liking about World is the cutscenes can't be skipped and the whole SOS flare mechanic (would have liked it if it wasn't for the dumb game making you play a mission solo until a cutscene that you can't skip). I'm ranting now.
Taunic yeah, some parts of the game can sometimes not make sense. For example, the SOS. But it gets better after HR 100. You think you’ve completed the game but... nope.
I tried dual blades first, surprisingly I didn't enjoy them. So I tried insect glaive, couldn't make too many of the moves work, I was horrible at it. Charged Blade.....YES, YES YES YES YES!!!!!
To be fair, SnS can be classified as a support weapon then since they're the best for using the armor skill Wide Range. On top of that, it can be argued that causing a monster to become weakened from your actions is a form of support, therefor any weapon that specializes in status effects is a support weapon. The real reason people hate the term is because of newcomers just staying away and playing songs (corner horning) because that's the impression they get from the term.
I know the ideal fight with the insect glave is supposed to be on the ground but I've always found the air fights to be far better off with far better results. 1- You're not tripping your allies or being tripped by your allies. 2- You're able to focus parts of the targets better than chasing them on the ground 3- You can dodge some nasty ground level attacks by simply not being on the ground. Bazel bombs, tremors, ground covered in poison or lava. 4- You can escape from a monster's more easily if you're airborne Sure, you're not getting the ideal damage but I've found that I've been able to attack more frequently, for longer.
@Hollow Shell I explained why, in detail why I think it's a legit way to fight. I never said it's more efficient with damage, I said it's a perfectly fine way to fight with plenty of positives. So. . . what are you talking about?
@Hollow Shell Hollow, I really have no idea what the point of your comment is. I laid out a pretty detailed reason why I aerial IG works and I never stated in any capacity that it's more damage dealing than ground based. So, I'm aware of what you're saying but I never said that, I never disagreed with the results of the video so.... I'm asking again, what are you on about? Why are you commenting on something I never said?
@Hollow Shell For the third time, I never made that claim. I don't know why you're being defensive over something I literally never said and you can check, by re-reading the initial comment. But, either way have a great night and hope you find a better discussion elsewhere :)
@Hollow Shell I'm fine with discussing, but as I've said now, 4 times? That I've never said it was more DPS efficient. I never have. You can keep making that claim but the OP never said that. There are advantages OTHER than DPS, imagine that. That's why I'm really not interested in discussing. You're arguing I said it's better with DPS, no, I said it has has other advantages and I very, plainly, stated them. There's no words to mix here. And I've spent the last few comments saying I never said that. So other than repeating the exact same thing, I don't know what there is to discuss other than "I never said it does more DPS, so please stop saying I did." The air allows for better dodging of many moves and effects a monster might have. It allows you to avoid terrain problems such as different heights of terrain, lava, and even toads. Also, as I already stated, you're less likely to be tripped or trip allies when in the air. The results, certainly CAN be better with scoring more hits if the monster is flying or perhaps you're aiming for a specific target that's out of range on the ground if you're trying to break something. That doesn't remain a constant because the monster is always moving and not always flying and in different situations. So taking advantage of the skills and decorations that benefit the ground will 9/10 lead to more DPS- which to really drill in I've never said any different. You can evade better given the rage of jumps and your flurry. It also will let mount the monster. To restate my point, firmly is that there are plenty of advantages to being airborne and it's up to the user and the situation to suss out what is the best to do.OR if you're just interested in what's fun, or what you're more comfortable with, go with that. So, I again say I have no idea what your point is. I said flight has it's advantages and it does. DPS is not the be-all-end all of how a style can be better. I'm not being blown up by bazel bombs when going flight, or being tripped by a long sword user. But if the monster is on it's side and stunned, duh, save your stamina and cut it's tail. Can we be done? Or are you going to suggest something else I never said and then demand a discussion about that?
@Hollow Shell You: "Snotnarok yes it’s perfectly viable. And of course if you like playing that way go ahead. I’m just saying if you care about dps or playing efficiently that’s not the way to play. That’s what I’m talking about" You literally say DPS and efficiency in the same sentence so if you didn't mean it wasn't more DPS efficient, what did you mean? Because there's nothing else I see here other than "you're wrong Aerial is not more DPS efficient" Which I never said, not once. I said other advantages, it's been helpful in OTHER situations. But you can't seem to accept this. You: "Snotnarok you’re still trying to have it both ways. I never said that you said being in the air is better for dps. You just went one step above and said “the results are far better in the air”. You didn’t make any specifics, you just made a sweeping statement that “the results are far better in the air” which isn’t true. Now go ahead and say “for the x time I didn’t say etc”. You’re the one defending something I didn’t say. You’ve literally contradicted yourself trying to cover your " What am I trying to have both ways? Please do tell me both specific things I'm trying to have because I've already looked through my comments and have never said it's better DPS and I've listed specific situations where I have enjoyed better results in the air, one of which being fun. So, I'm not sure how much more specific you want me to be it's already been two very long comments you haven't seemed to read. You: "Snotnarok just let me go ahead and make this more clear for you. You said “aerial glaive has better results” then I said “no it doesn’t have better results”" Yes it does. I've already listed the situations I have found the aerial style to help me and if it doesn't aide you then that's fine, it's called having different play styles. -avoiding being tripped, tripping your allies -avoiding monster hazards -avoiding area hazards -lets you mount monsters easier than most other weapons with out terrain help -attacking specific parts of a monster you have difficulty reaching -detonating blast puffs created by your kinsect that are higher up -Can let you attack a monster, for longer given it lets you avoid hazards. -attacking flying enemies (If you don't have flashpods or they've become immune or you don't feel like wasting them on an easy monster) Those are perfectly good examples and if that doesn't work for you, that's fine. Works for me and that's all that matters when I'm playing a game. I have already stated several times you get more damage on the ground because it's not even disputable- BUT, there's MORE to combat than just DPS, like the above things. And for a nice big part that I'd like to highlight is that the insect glave's the ONLY weapon to have this ability of leaping into the air with no hills/cliffs and having full on combos. So, if you're not going to take advantage of some of the perks or at the VERY LEAST take to the air for some ...ya know, FUN, then why not play any of the other weapons since you're insisting on nailing yourself to the ground. Why bother with the IG if you're going to ignore it's unique selling point and just slice everything's ankles like ALL other weapons. Can we be done now? Is this enough detail? Have I repeated myself enough that you finally get it? As I said I'm all for meaningful discussions but you're asking me to constantly repeat myself while you insist I've said things that you can clearly see that I haven't! When the discussion is me having to despiute things I never said when you can just scroll up yourself instead of wasting our time it's not a discussion. You're not adding any specifics to why you think aerial has no advantages- and I've already stated, how many times now that ground will do more dps? My point is aerial has advantages but if you're gonna be short sighted and focus only on dps and not survive-ability and other hazards with some monsters then why even have the discussion? You're not even discussing the topic, you're just going after me and demanding I explain myself which I've done three times while you don't explain a thing you've said. Just play the game the way you want to, I'm not sitting here telling you how to play and I'm not about to listen to you when you don't seem to even think about what you're typing. Have a great day man, I'm done repeating myself.
Befri Rafles charge blade main! I use all the weapons because i play mostly solo, but when i am on a team with my most common hunting partner, he uses hunting horn and i use charge blade and we just fuck shit up.
Lancer here; I wanna follow up this by saying the lance is more like a really big rapier. Yes, it’s got the guarding and tanking, but I would say it’s actually better defined by the hopping around it does and its precision, acting more like a fencer that gives no ground than a true tank, though it can totally function that way if needed.
As an SnS main, I agree with the SnS assesment on how its reach is pretty bad but on the damage ceiling part, the beauty of it is the very fast attack speed and that you're surpirsingly very hard to hit if you use the falling shield bash combo which means less time healing which means more time DPS's-ing. Also, the falling shield bash combo does great damage where 1 combo (if all the hits connect) does almost the same damage as a fully charged lvl 1 GS attack, add to the fact that it's super quick to pull off, you have a DPS that can hold its own.
Mark8271997 falling shield bash can do over 500 damage with a average crit build... which can be spammed... Granted it is tricky to land it if your target it on the move or a anjanath/deviljho
As a gunner player I say we always have reserve crafting materials and we don't just shoot monsters randomly since there are 3 diffent types of shots/ammo to consider and we need to calculate our distance depending on what shots/ammo our weapons deal since they will be less effective in different distance. :-)
Another thing of note is the sword and shield can perform aerial/mounting attacks easily while also being able to guard. It can also do cutting damage with the sword and KO damage with shield attacks. It also has a fast multi hit combo that can buildup status really quickly but it also has a heavy hitting combo that conserves sharpness. Sword and shield is the most versatile weapon in the game and no matter what you are trying to do or whatever status you are trying to cause the sword and shield can hold its own and contribute to the buildup.
There's no such thing as a low damage weapon class in MH, low damage per hit sure but not over the course of an entire hunt. The beauty of the sns is that you can stick to a monster like glue and be continually damaging it, there's no stopping the pain train with the sns!
The beauty of the SnS is that you can take up residence in a monster's anus, and then stick there long enough to consider what drapes you want. You can get into the blind spots where you can spam away all you want. I NEVER use the block, and yet I feel like it is still the best weapons for staying safe.
Dealing 500 dmg over 5 second per ONE hit or dealing 50 dmg each per 10 hits in 5 seconds, which is 500 too, is really the same. Its not about raw damage, its about the "dps". A 500 dmg hit per 5 s is only 100 dps. A 50 dmg hit per 0.5s is also 100 dps. The real question is - what do you need. High speed coupled with low dmg. Or slow speed with insane dmg. And that depends on the monster. On how much openings you have. Or how mobile the monster is. If its gonna run laps around you, then go for high dmg, slow speed. Hit it good every once in a while, since it will approach you only once in a while. Having a low dmg high speed weapon makes no sense for this scenario. If you only get 1-2 hits max before it distances itself, then you deal no dmg basically. So for any melee class, at least master two weapons, one of each: slow & hard hitting and fast & weak hitting.
to add info for the Switch Axe. it's playstyle relies on being very aggressive and requiring good positioning as well as maintaining your sword meter. If you run out of meter you will automatically switch back to axe mode in a lengthy animation. While you are using Axe mode your sword meter will recharge. Dealing dps with the switch axe involves you building up this amped state that you reach by attacking while in sword mode while maintaining the sword mode's meter by switching back and forth between axe and sword mode. When in an amped state you can discharge your weapon into the monster. This will continuously deal small amounts of damage if you continue pressing the attack button until it detonates for big damage. However one should only use this if your amped state is about to run out (seen by the icon flashing red) or if the monster starts to run away. attacks you should take note of: axe mode triangle plus circle/ Y+B (this has good vertical reach for when a monster's head or tail is above you) Circle into R2/RT (the transition attack into sword mode from this particular attack deals a very high amount of damage. this should be used to switch back to sword mode for high damage numbers. With proper positioning it's possible to use this attack as a wake up attack option for a sleeping monster although the spacing is difficult) sword mode: triangle plus circle/Y+B (this is your weapon discharge. it will deal a very high amount of damage when it detonates however it is lengthy if you continue to press traingle/y. Downside is that after using this attack is you will be stuck in a long recovery animation and knocked back. it will also take alot of sharpness from your weapon. Should really only be used when your amped state is about to run out)
TheGameconomist no problem. :D Wanted to give more info for people wanting to get into switch axes. It's a little more difficult than the other weapons but if you get the hang of everything your dps will be really good.
i want to use SA so bad and i have used it but the mobility is so limited and makes it so bad and makes you realize how much superior the CB is objectively :/ its definetely the coolest looking weapon
and if you want to use it against unrelenting monsters such as odogaron diablos and deviljho in particular evade extender 2 points are almost mandatory and thats alot of dps you sacrifice for that
the SNS is the perfect weapon. I am constantly drawn to its shear power after using the Switch axe for all of the assignment missions and using lbg for 100+ hunts
Image Kid did you just reply to something I posted a month ago...this is the reason I will not be considering your opinion, especially when you still use the word scrub
With the Charge Blade, you use your attacks to charge up your phials (it's just a meter) and once your phials are full you perform a special move to store the charges, doing so will grant your attacks more damage in the form of elemental damage (I've personally found the charge blade to be a nice 'all around' weapon and is easier to use than it seems). Also with the Heavy Bowgun, you can equip modification to enhance it, and one of said modifications is a shield to compensate for the slower movement.
SnS is truly the strongest weapon in the game, When you are able to use your inventory as a move set with the added benefit of the Radial menu you the stronkest there is.
I've never understood why they added the ability to use items unsheathed with the SnS or why people make a big deal out of it. I use SnS a lot and always put my weapon away to use items because you can sprint while consuming AND more importantly, sheathing the SnS is almost instant anyway.
Perhaps you don't know but the main use for it was to play the trap-master in older generations. You can basically throw a flash while having your weapon out, lay down traps (with the "trapmaster" ability, very quickly), etc. In MH Generations, if you picked aerial and also equipped the ability "rodeo master", that would lead to lots of arial dmg which then led to mounts. So, you could basically trap the monster constantly with a rotation of: flash -> trap -> mount For the sns you have two choices: paralyze (obvious & preferred) and sleep. And if you picked a sleep sns, that would lead to 1-2 sleeps depending on the duration of the fight. Then you could sleep bomb that thing. I have one loadout for this in MHG and MHGU where I can paralyze the monster for the entire duration of the fight. If you bring 3 HBG players, this is also called a "hame" run in japanese, hame literally meaning "fucking". This is how you rape monsters in MH!
As a Switchaxe main with a Charge Blade best friend, permit me the arrogance of filling in my opinion to the blanks you left on them: The Switchaxe is similar to the Greatsword, but if you traded in your ability to block for more explosive power and movement. As an axe, it's really just a longer reaching Greatsword with faster combos that can't block. However, in sword mode, you move much faster and can pull off many flashy combos and moves that deal massive damage. Also, you can sidestep in both forms in addition to rolling. The Charge Blade, to me, seems like a Sword and Shield that chooses power and range over mobility. Both can block, but whereas Charge Blade is slower to move and can't consume items, it does have a mode with far superior range and, like the Switchaxe, flashy moves with a heavy impact. I find it a bit too technical for my tastes, but the basic concept isn't too complex. In reality, I think it's best to fiddle around with any weapon you're attracted to and decide for yourself if it feels right. For instance, you may like fast weapons over slow, but that doesn't guarantee you'll choose the Dual Blades over the Insect Glaive, as you may prefer one moveset over the other. Really it just comes down to whatever weapon with which you have the most fun!
Me, imagining how the video will go before watching it: Video: “Have you ever wanted to beat a dinosaur to death with a bagpipe?” Me: “fuck yeah!” H U N T I N G H O R N
People prob think I’m kidding but if you master charged burst gameplay with a long gunlance you don’t need any offense other than focus and artillery and can straight turtle
Is fun Lance the gun Lance? And is it pretty good at soloing monsters? I've been wanting to try it and learn how to play with it to farm some tempered baddies but my deco's suck
I main the hunting horn only cause I like the feeling of beating the monster over the head with a giant horn/drum and playing music in there face Very satisfying
RI1SME this game actually helps you save money. You won't need to leave the house anymore and you won't remember you're hungry anyway because you have monsters to hunt.
Do you like ruining everybody's attempt at sleep bombing? Insect glaive is for you! Any and all ranged weapons are also sufficient, despite the fact that ranged players also do the sleep bombing themselves.
You forgot dual blade shitters who use the moveset as an excuse to turn off their brains. It's gotten so bad, I never accept them on arch-tempered or Behemoth.
And Long Sword users, noob LS users are also berserks who won't stop attacking at nothing. Like Gameconimist I made my own "I'm putting the enemy to sleep" message. I spam that thing whenever I'm using sleeping ammo. Still there's always one LS or DS guy waking the enemy because he's incapable of hearing the change in music or seeing the enemy enter the sleep animation
Gunlance has 4 playstyles based on what kind of shells you wana use. Normal->full burst, long ->charged shots, wide->pike&shoot spam and melee gun lance whish uses no shells in their combos.
I've been playing Monster Hunter since the start (I was roughly 11 when the first one came out) & the way I saw it, choosing a weapon that best fits your playstyle also depends on what monster you plan on hunting. Until the charge blade was introduced, the long sword & hammer were my go-to weapons. If I was hunting a monster that was fast & moved around a lot, I'd use the long sword. If I was hunting a monster that was huge & (mostly) stationary, I'd use the hammer. Instead of being the best at just 1 weapon, you should learn how to be skilled with multiple weapons.
Wasted so many material on trying out the Gunlance, HBG and finally the Horn. Glad i found one i really like, always wanted to try the HBG out now that i get to use the Mouse, but still love playing them tunes with the hunting horn BB!
Very informative video. Unfortunately I think you put -Morphs into a Shield under the switchaxe section instead of the charge blade. Of course I don’t use either much so I may be missing something
I play IG because I can't figure out how to play anything else. With everything else I'm just chasing , dodging, drinking, flinching, staggering, dodging, chasing, drinking with occasional attacking - or more attacking and occasional carting. With IG im almost constantly attacking, even when dodging and that is fun and feels good. How anyone can do that with a hammer or switch axe is beyond me.
grmasdfII I agree, IG seems so much different from other weapons, and I use it as my main weapon, without jumping into the air every second and being stuck on the ground it’s really hard to play other weapons, especially because IG fells so powerful when the monster can’t hit you at all.
I currently have over 150 hours on insect glaive and imo I believe that spending about 50% of your time in the air providing mounting damage is better for both solo and group play than providing a slightly higher damage output on the ground. Getting a knockdown can provide a far bigger damage boost than getting a combo off on the ground. I could be playing glaive completely wrong but this has been successful for me thusfar.
very late, but here's how to learn most weapons by yourself. greatsword: never overcharge, tackle is more or less a counter move, any touch with your big ass chunk of iron is good enough damages, always default to sheathing your weapon in combat (and use environment). longsword: raise your gauge, do a R2/RT combo to raise your level, repeat. you can dodge anything with the counter move, even roars. just play and play, it's intuitive to learn. sword and shield: don't concern yourself over how much damages you deal, hit the thing, try all your moves, play and play you get better. dual blades: don't spam the demon flury, goal is to stay up and hitting as fast and constantly as possible. spiny dash can climb walls, start slope glides and ledge jumps. hunting horn: you're now a chad, a jedi and a wizard... so: "use the force harry" lance: stay up close and personnal, abuse the parry move, have fun. gunlance: look at big number, love big number, do big number again. and block things to get openings switch axe: first spam the axe moveset and wait for openings to use sword moveset. when you get comfy with both, try to mix in switch attacks on any very small opportunity. get more comfy. charge blade: read the pdf. because you love reading pdf, or you wouldn't have picked that weapon. insect glaive: always get all three buffs from the insect, don't spam the aerial move that bounce you up, it deal no damage or mount, only for repositioning and throwing a good downward attack before fighting again on ground. heavy and light bowgun: no fucking clue, i never tried those bow: even more intensive than the dual blades. use every single stamina helping skill or consumable that you can, you'll have load of fun.
Charge blade is easily the most technical weapon. You have to charge your phials which you can then charge into your shield, then you have to charge again to fill you phials again, but you have to be careful not to overheat your weapon or your attacks will bounce. To counteract this, you can charge your blade but only after your shield is charged... etc, etc.
I've used Hammer throughout the story, but now I am switching to Bow because I think it is more fun while still dealing a lot of damage. Plus it is easier to get good bow skills in the endgame ;)
I just got mhw this month, and it’s my first monster hunter game. I’ve put 100+ hours into the game, (and after at least one hour in the training range) I set my heart on the hammer. Between being a knockout machine and a fucking meteor sliding down a hill to strike judgement onto monsters, the hammer is such a fun and surprisingly smooth weapon once you really get a feel for it.
Something to mention, albeit late, is that Sword&Shield can also do KO damage through the charge attack by pressing B in the air and does more damage than the normal airborne attack. Also it has a lot of repositioning since it can extend combos by simply changing direction in the middle of one. The charge as seen jumps backwards so it can also be used to counter attack like with the Longsword
Not talking about how Light bowgun is the fatest weapon to apply status (multiples status in the same hunt) ,having great mobility and crazy fast Sheathing speed making it the best support weapon in the game. You can buff your teamsmates attack and defenses Sleep(bomb) a monster, trapping it ,paralysing it, Ko-ing it in a row , and you can do that again a second time if you want to. You can also heal your team mates without any armor skill ,with weapon sheathed. While being better than Heavy bowgun at dealing elemental damages due to Rapid shots. It's nice mentioning Heavy bowgun explosive ammo while "forgeting" that you can literaly shoot explosive mines with the Light bowgun
Well, technically you can just flail around the monster forever with the dual blades and it will pretty much just die. Stamina doesn't even seem to matter considering your hurt box seems to shrink by 75% when you pick up the dual blades...
I was an LS main for 500 kills... but now I use whatever my streamstones guide me toward. Dark Devourer and Magda Gemitus II are my current favorite. HBG is too fun. awesome work on the guides!
I've plowed through the game with Dual Blades. I'd like to add that when you actually go into "deep flow" of attack, stamina becomes irrelevant. Going through chopping loop combo with occasional spining combo to move away from the monster's attack or to next weak spot, you keep up the damage even at 0 stamina. It's been a blast using these, though lack of immidiate large damage often makes battles last longer than with other weapon types. Thank god there are Mega Bombs in this game.
Yeah, it is the most unpopular weapon, only 1% of players use it. I think that it's because when most people hear that it's a "support weapon" they look away (and this video really isn't helping lol)
Dunno about Switch Axe but Charge Blade is a technical and difficult weapon that has massive animation times, leaving you open for a lot of attacks, but drops a massive damage payload when utilized properly. Mastery of the weapon involves learning the technical aspects of its attacks, as well as its positioning moves, and learning everything the shield can do, such as Guard Points. They also have a lot of build options thanks to the Phial differences, so you’ll find many different ways to accomplish a task on Charge Blade. It’s a weapon for people who play the game enough to learn it, or for people who just want to one-trick a weapon.
Switch axes are also pretty technical and has it's fair shares of slow animations and obligatory multihits that leave you open to attacks. Charge blades deserve a little buff I feel(not in the damage department, they have enough of that), It simply has way too many requirements for it's burst combos which can be a bit counter intuitive. I was originally planning to main Charge Blades(in the Melee department, since my main is still the Switch Axe), but I switched to Switch Axe because it requires less steps for a similar result. YOu pretty much need to charge the energy fill the vials and execute the right combo in order to further strenghten those vials, and only then consume them for one of the strongest bursts I've ever seen in this game. It's powerful but it gets old quite fast(at least to me). The main difference between Charge Blade and Switch Axes is that Charge blades are more of a burst damage weapon and switch axes are more sustained damage + decent mobility(you can cancel some attacks into side dashes to evade while never leaving the offensive). Charge Blades is more similar to Great Swords and Lances, kind of a mix of both. You have fast poking in the sword and shield mode, and longer ranges and absurdly strong burst but slow animations in axe mode. Switch Axes however closely resemble Long Swords and double swords(or maybe hammers since they lack a double swords insanely fast mobility)
Tip. You don't need to go into that does menu to craft so for light bowgun. You can set it up on your radial menu and just quickly craft all you need in mere seconds. It would not let that turn you off. Like a lot of the game, knowing how to take advantage of a faster way or the systems charges things dramatically
Right now I'm fiddling with the heavy bowgun but I was wondering: Out of all the weapons which ones would probably be best for "hit and run" get in, get out tactics? I know the lance/shield is all about standing your ground and poking, but what about if I just want to run in and out and never stick too long in the danger zone?
For that I like to use GS with skills like Crit Draw, Focus, and Quick Sheath as a base, while adding other atk/crit boosting skills. You still have to position right and know the monster timings, but you'd be surprised how effective at hit and run the GS is with the Focus/Quick Sheath combo. Then again, this is just personal taste, and your mileage on trying this may vary.
I'm an insect glaive main and ill say your explanation was good but when you said "you need three buffs" you don't need all three a good strategy is to take 2 buffs (make sure red is always included as it increases your general DPS through adding more moves to combos and increasing attack speed kinda like duel blades) and take your third right before the current two expire as this resets the timer you'd really only use aerial attacks for mount damage (excluding evade reasons) but yes I would agree with the fact the glaive is one of the most if not the most technical weapons in monster hunter. I'm pretty absent minded and ignorant at times if I missed anything about the IG please point them out
The hammer is awesome. Cool designs, Simple move set, powerful, and nice decent mobility very strong jump attacks and you can also reposition yourself with 1 of its jump attacks. The slide spin attack is so bad ass. you just have to have skill because of its short range. You can get some shit of mounts with hammer too.
I’m a flex main that mainly chooses weapons depending on the monster, like if it’s fast af, I go gunlance, if it’s big and tanky, I go insect glaive, if it flies often, I go HBG
My favorite weapon is dual Blade. Dodging attacks with cool moves in close combat and still dealing damage. Also, I like the Feeling of beating the shit out of 'em while they're struggljng to land hits on me.
I play the kinsect glaive differently than you do, I rarely like to power up because every time you power up the final swipe in mid air has to hit the monster in order to stay in the air, and I prefer to stay in the air all together to dodge almost all if the monster's attacks
Watching your videos makes you really understand how insanely advanced the game actually is. The game might feel buggy to many I guess, but the answer is really that they thought about everything (more or less), and you really need lots of skills to actually master each weapon. I hope every one at least watch this video before giving up the game. Videos like this should be basic class to understand the game (most of your videos should be), It makes the game so much more fun when you actually understand it a bit more.
Which weapons don't require a "charge up" time? Due to a thumb/hand injury having to constantly hold a button down aggravates it over time and my binge playing days have been cut short lol.
I started off using the longsword because of how easy it was to use for a little nooblet like myself, but switched to Greatsword because of how much I enjoyed the raw damage of it
Most accurate description I've heard yet about the Longsword. People who have no idea how to use the weapon will say it's a weapon to use if you don't want to think or if you just want to hack and slash. These people have no idea how to use the LS. It's all about counting the monster's attacks, and exploiting opening with burst (helm splitter). I would say that it's a hybrid between the CB, and the Lance in respect to how it's efficiently used.
Pretty much this. Back in Monster Hunter Tri it was the only weapon that suited my playstyle of reading and counter. It's the only weapon that allowed me dodge and attack in the exact moment when the enemy left their guard open(other weapons simply lacked the speed to make usage of a well timed dodge, or didn't have the right mobility to do that and stay close to an enemy's weak spot. Why? Because it didn't have the dual blades, for whatever reason)
LBG and Switch Axe main here. For the switch axe and the charge blade, I feel that Earplugs is not an alternative but a necessity. You won't be wasting DPS by having it on your build, rather you WILL waste DPS for not delivering full combos, you simply cannot enter the area deliver a quick burst and exit like other melee weapons, you have to deliver those combos because both weapons are "slow"(switch axe's case, although it is a somewhat mobile weapon), or "slow"(Charge blade's case as it needs to charge up the vials in order to start your real combos, and it also lacks mobility, which is covered by the shield instead for your survivability). I don't know about Charge blades but Switch axes can make proper use of quick draw, it's a much faster alternative for fast combo openers since you'd usually have to wait for enemies to open their guards and deliver a forward+circle(B) or triangle(Y) which can leave your guard open if you miss. In general I believe Switch Axe and Charge Blade are kind of defensive weapons you can't simply attack and leave. You need to wait for the right moment, when you're sure that the enemy won't move around much, because if they do, you'll be wasting your combos in the air. It's actually annoying to use iton multiplayer when someone in your team is using a highly mobile weapon. They can simply aggro and kite the enemy and you won't get to deliver a single combo because the enemy will be moving all over the place. Going solo however will be much easier than with some other weapons.
Bow and CB main. CB is another of those 'read and predict' weapons. The power combos are long and can't be cancelled, so knowing when to do them is important. It benefits from being able to stick on the monster as much as possible too. Guard, and guard-reacting into combos is a solid skill. Blocking an attack and chaining it into a 300+ damage attack is possible. All that said, it is a technical weapon with all the combo sequences and modes. One point that was missed was that SA and CB both have natural 'mind's eye' possible (no weapon bouncing). SA in sword mode, CB with a charged sword and the phial-using axe swings.
True, that bounceback immunity is incredibly good. I use it to destroy Horns and the like. Although, I can't count the number of times when my combos were cancelled midway by roars, sometimes I simply dodge those roars, but you can't dodge if you are caught while doing any of the circle/B moves. And sometimes the monsters roars 3 times in a row. WIthout those roars I could probably cause a much greater amount of damage. MY weapon depends on constant hits for it's damage and Zero-Sum Discharge only offers a level 3 or 4 earplugs, needless to say you can't always rely on it, as it depends on Amped state.
Yeah. Lvlv 3 Earplugs charm will cancel roars of maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the monster's roars. Need 4-5 for the rest. Bazel head/waist, 2 decos, or one deco and hope the cat Orchestras it. Then there's the AT Elders, and just go for lvl 5 for sanity's sake.
My main weapons are: LS, DB and GL if you need any advices. I wanna main bow and heavy gun xD but I suck at dodging or aiming , I don't feel they are safe when the monster are too fast. Any advice from bows and gunner ?
There’s no such thing as a support weapon.. only side effects that teammates can benefit from. I’m only using the horn/SnS to buff myself while I kick monster butt. Just because my teammates benefit, doesn’t make the two “support” weapons. While I appreciate your HBG guide because you put the time in with that weapon and fully understood it, you can tell your lack of experience with the shielded weapons. There is a lot of mobility and DPS you’re leaving on the table by the way they’re explained here. Still love your content. Just an observation.
The hunting horn is a support weapon and I will never understand why HH mains get so butthurt over that. Just because your weapons primary role is support doesn’t mean it’s any worse than any other weapon. HH’s entire purpose is to buff yourself and teammates, if your one of the HH players who say “fuck buffs, I’m going full offense” then my question to you is: why the fuck don’t you just use the hammer then? Hammer is more mobile and deals more damage, literally the only reason anyone should pick HH over hammer is because of its supportive features, making it a support weapon. Similar to the SnS, there’s no real reason to use the SnS unless you’re wanting to play the support role, that or you enjoy the ability to heal without sheathing, which will was your life about 1 time out 50
Ethan H Ethan H I play solo. So it’s just buffing myself or removing annoying monster abilities. And you can get sub 2 minute times on elder dragons with SnS just like you can with a LS or GS.
Ethen H Just because the hunting horn has the buffs available, doesn't mean a hunting horn user has to be sitting there playing songs without attacking. The primary role is not necessarily supporting, but the buffs should come while fighting the monster. I think you should try to get more experience with hunting horn and sns if you think they should only be played as a support role. As someone mentioned, kill times can be just as good as other weapons.
I didnt say the player has to sit there and only put out buffs, if they did that then they would be very inefficient. But the one thing that differentiates the horns from any other weapon type is that it is the only weapon that hands out buff. In literally any rpg game that would be called a support weapon. I have 1500 hours in MHW, and Horn is my second most played weapon. Also I mentioned SNS wide range, but also SNS ailment, SNS element, and SNS jump attacks.

Insect glaive. I use pretty much everything though. Love greatsword, gunlance & bowguns. What about you?

How ironic that for being so similar, the Switch AXE becomes a blade and the Charge BLADE becomes an axe
But the charge blade charges a bunch of stuff a bunch lmao
i feel like those 2 weapons were blueprinted as one weapon but they went too far with all the cool gimmiks.
@@Seven-we1ks you're right about the charge axe, but the switch axe is called surasshu akkusu in japanese so basically slash axe.
I've used a lot of weapons, but the Hammer has found me. The weapon legitimately feels like boxing. Landing those big hits while weaving until the monster is knocked out, allowing you to wail on the monster until it's back to trading blows. The hammer is the truth, the light, and the way.
The truth has found you fellow hammerbro
Epic, gonna try it now just cuz of this lol

Yes, basically it was an issue of me mixing words and not cutting the vids between what I said

Hammer is for me!
Hammer is the best imo
Taunic aerial hammer + a good Diablos shatterer build = speedrun material
+Your Dad I'm actually going for a diablos shatterer right now, got the kulu hammer II. Not too far into the game, but I'm enjoying it so far. One thing I'm not liking about World is the cutscenes can't be skipped and the whole SOS flare mechanic (would have liked it if it wasn't for the dumb game making you play a mission solo until a cutscene that you can't skip). I'm ranting now.
Taunic yeah, some parts of the game can sometimes not make sense. For example, the SOS. But it gets better after HR 100. You think you’ve completed the game but... nope.
+Your Dad That's good to hear. I'm really liking the changes to how skills work and the streamlined gathering of mundane items.
I tried dual blades first, surprisingly I didn't enjoy them.
So I tried insect glaive, couldn't make too many of the moves work, I was horrible at it.
Charged Blade.....YES, YES YES YES YES!!!!!
4:55 i can hear the angry hh mains already
Polarbrear too true
Does it support teammates? >yes > Then its a support weapon .
Horn mains: NO! THATS JUST ONE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS
Just swtich to quit mode hh butthurt
To be fair, SnS can be classified as a support weapon then since they're the best for using the armor skill Wide Range. On top of that, it can be argued that causing a monster to become weakened from your actions is a form of support, therefor any weapon that specializes in status effects is a support weapon. The real reason people hate the term is because of newcomers just staying away and playing songs (corner horning) because that's the impression they get from the term.
Angry HH mains be playing metal songs with that electric bass from basarios
I know the ideal fight with the insect glave is supposed to be on the ground but I've always found the air fights to be far better off with far better results.
1- You're not tripping your allies or being tripped by your allies.
2- You're able to focus parts of the targets better than chasing them on the ground
3- You can dodge some nasty ground level attacks by simply not being on the ground. Bazel bombs, tremors, ground covered in poison or lava.
4- You can escape from a monster's more easily if you're airborne
Sure, you're not getting the ideal damage but I've found that I've been able to attack more frequently, for longer.
@Hollow Shell
I'm fine with discussing, but as I've said now, 4 times? That I've never said it was more DPS efficient. I never have. You can keep making that claim but the OP never said that. There are advantages OTHER than DPS, imagine that.
That's why I'm really not interested in discussing. You're arguing I said it's better with DPS, no, I said it has has other advantages and I very, plainly, stated them. There's no words to mix here. And I've spent the last few comments saying I never said that. So other than repeating the exact same thing, I don't know what there is to discuss other than "I never said it does more DPS, so please stop saying I did."
The air allows for better dodging of many moves and effects a monster might have.
@Hollow Shell
You: "Snotnarok yes it’s perfectly viable. And of course if you like playing that way go ahead. I’m just saying if you care about dps or playing efficiently that’s not the way to play. That’s what I’m talking about"
You literally say DPS and efficiency in the same sentence so if you didn't mean it wasn't more DPS efficient, what did you mean?
You’ve literally contradicted yourself trying to cover your "
What am I trying to have both ways? Please do tell me both specific things I'm trying to have because I've already looked through my comments and have never said it's better DPS and I've listed specific situations where I have enjoyed better results in the air, one of which being fun. So, I'm not sure how much more specific you want me to be it's already been two very long comments you haven't seemed to read.
You: "Snotnarok just let me go ahead and make this more clear for you. You said “aerial glaive has better results” then I said “no it doesn’t have better results”"
Yes it does. I've already listed the situations I have found the aerial style to help me and if it doesn't aide you then that's fine, it's called having different play styles.
-avoiding being tripped, tripping your allies
-avoiding monster hazards
-avoiding area hazards
-lets you mount monsters easier than most other weapons with out terrain help
-attacking specific parts of a monster you have difficulty reaching
-detonating blast puffs created by your kinsect that are higher up
-Can let you attack a monster, for longer given it lets you avoid hazards.
-attacking flying enemies (If you don't have flashpods or they've become immune or you don't feel like wasting them on an easy monster)
Those are perfectly good examples and if that doesn't work for you, that's fine.
Charge blade user here!!
Who needs range when you’re using a weapon more versatile than a halberd
Ive been through 3 or 4 monster hunters and I still don't know what to main.

Roighto.
There's no such thing as a low damage weapon class in MH, low damage per hit sure but not over the course of an entire hunt. The beauty of the sns is that you can stick to a monster like glue and be continually damaging it, there's no stopping the pain train with the sns!
As I like to say, SnS users are all over the monster like a Konchu.
He forgot you can ko a monster with sns
Cap'n 😳
to add info for the Switch Axe. it's playstyle relies on being very aggressive and requiring good positioning as well as maintaining your sword meter. However one should only use this if your amped state is about to run out (seen by the icon flashing red) or if the monster starts to run away.
attacks you should take note of:
axe mode
triangle plus circle/ Y+B (this has good vertical reach for when a monster's head or tail is above you)
Circle into R2/RT (the transition attack into sword mode from this particular attack deals a very high amount of damage. this should be used to switch back to sword mode for high damage numbers. With proper positioning it's possible to use this attack as a wake up attack option for a sleeping monster although the spacing is difficult)
sword mode: triangle plus circle/Y+B (this is your weapon discharge. it will deal a very high amount of damage when it detonates however it is lengthy if you continue to press traingle/y. Downside is that after using this attack is you will be stuck in a long recovery animation and knocked back. it will also take alot of sharpness from your weapon. Should really only be used when your amped state is about to run out)
Thanks for the breakdown!
TheGameconomist no problem. :D
Wanted to give more info for people wanting to get into switch axes. It's a little more difficult than the other weapons but if you get the hang of everything your dps will be really good.
Excellent description. Mastery also gives a lot of movement options with transition attacks (particularly from switching from sword to axe)
i want to use SA so bad and i have used it but the mobility is so limited and makes it so bad and makes you realize how much superior the CB is objectively :/ its definetely the coolest looking weapon
and if you want to use it against unrelenting monsters such as odogaron diablos and deviljho in particular evade extender 2 points are almost mandatory and thats alot of dps you sacrifice for that

@@grimv1208 relax scrub, obvious mistake
Image Kid did you just reply to something I posted a month ago...this is the reason I will not be considering your opinion, especially when you still use the word scrub
@@grimv1208 Fact that you replied says a lot tho.
When it said sword and shield had short combos but it literally can combo forever.
So, you could basically trap the monster constantly with a rotation of: flash -> trap -> mount
For the sns you have two choices: paralyze (obvious & preferred) and sleep.
As a Switchaxe main with a Charge Blade best friend, permit me the arrogance of filling in my opinion to the blanks you left on them:
The Switchaxe is similar to the Greatsword, but if you traded in your ability to block for more explosive power and movement.

Calls the hunting horn a support noises
*Angry musical noises*
I’m a simple man, I see a great sword, I pick it up.
Preach brother
I main the hunting horn only cause I like the feeling of beating the monster over the head with a giant horn/drum and playing music in there face
Very satisfying
Watching this but dont have the game cause i have no money lol have fun playing it guys it looks fun

Yes them too, nice addition.
I use insect glaive but I've never ruined/seen anyone ruin a sleep bomb using it. How does it happen?
@@ascended8174 aerial attacks mostly.
"The only true support weapon".
Yeah, support in that carry the entire team.
Of course I don’t use either much so I may be missing something
sorry to ask, how do you aim specifically monster's part? like head? lock on camera? or free camera? i always end up hitting the mons belly
You just hit the general direction of the part you want to hit and hope that you hit it.
4:56 you pronounced “awesome” wrong
Nah that’s what I do to lol I’m just flying around the whole fight 😂
very late, but here's how to learn most weapons by yourself.
greatsword: never overcharge, tackle is more or less a counter move, any touch with your big ass chunk of iron is good enough damages, always default to sheathing your weapon in combat (and use environment).
longsword: raise your gauge, do a R2/RT combo to raise your level, repeat. you can dodge anything with the counter move, even roars. just play and play, it's intuitive to learn.
sword and shield: don't concern yourself over how much damages you deal, hit the thing, try all your moves, play and play you get better.
dual blades: don't spam the demon flury, goal is to stay up and hitting as fast and constantly as possible. spiny dash can climb walls, start slope glides and ledge jumps.
hunting horn: you're now a chad, a jedi and a wizard... so: "use the force harry"
lance: stay up close and personnal, abuse the parry move, have fun.
gunlance: look at big number, love big number, do big number again. and block things to get openings
switch axe: first spam the axe moveset and wait for openings to use sword moveset. when you get comfy with both, try to mix in switch attacks on any very small opportunity. get more comfy.
charge blade: read the pdf. because you love reading pdf, or you wouldn't have picked that weapon.
insect glaive: always get all three buffs from the insect, don't spam the aerial move that bounce you up, it deal no damage or mount, only for repositioning and throwing a good downward attack before fighting again on ground.
heavy and light bowgun: no fucking clue, i never tried those
bow: even more intensive than the dual blades. use every single stamina helping skill or consumable that you can, you'll have load of fun.
6:56 isabelle teaching me how to ledge hop
Charge blade is easily the most technical weapon. You have to charge your phials which you can then charge into your shield, then you have to charge again to fill you phials again, but you have to be careful not to overheat your weapon or your attacks will bounce. To counteract this, you can charge your blade but only after your shield is charged... etc, etc.
I've used Hammer throughout the story, but now I am switching to Bow because I think it is more fun while still dealing a lot of damage. Plus it is easier to get good bow skills in the endgame ;)
They need to update sword & shield that if you consume items you can still run....
I'm a hunting horn user by the way~
I don't really feel like it's required to be honest. Since sheating is still really fast on sword and shield.
I would use every weapon, but I'm to lazy to farm the gear and weapons for each.
You can buff your teamsmates attack and defenses
Sleep(bomb) a monster, trapping it ,paralysing it, Ko-ing it in a row , and you can do that again a second time if you want to.
Stamina doesn't even seem to matter considering your hurt box seems to shrink by 75% when you pick up the dual blades...

using _menu_ instead of radial for in combat crafting.
As a sns user, sns isn’t for damage output but rather special element output like paralysis and sleep.
i.e. useless. imagine using SnS when GS, LS and hammer exist lol.
When I first picked up the game I played Hunting Horn and I still do (it's my fav weapon), but I didn't know that it wasn't a popular weapon.
Honestly I was very surprised that Hunting Horn mains get so much crap. I love having a Hunting Horn in my team.
Bless you
If you have room for your palico, give it the horn. That is... If you kept up with the grimalkynes
@@blu5440 I have and I do but multi-player always like having a Hunting Horn along.
Yeah, it is the most unpopular weapon, only 1% of players use it. I think that it's because when most people hear that it's a "support weapon" they look away (and this video really isn't helping lol)
" Allows the potions you eat to effect your allies "
I just use Range weapons on Flying dragons(Rathalos) I use normal on anything else(Charge blade or Switch axe)
They also have a lot of build
options thanks to the Phial differences, so you’ll find many different ways to accomplish a task on Charge Blade.
I could listen to your voice *forever*
There was a typo on switchaxe... It said morphs to shield
Love all your videos, you deserve way more credit and recognition!
Tip. You don't need to go into that does menu to craft so for light bowgun. You can set it up on your radial menu and just quickly craft all you need in mere seconds. It would not let that turn you off. Like a lot of the game, knowing how to take advantage of a faster way or the systems charges things dramatically
I am best at long sword decent at every melee weapon except SnS, funny how hbg is my favourite weapon even though I am trash with it.
How? You literally just scroll, point, and shoot. Block if you wanna
I have more respect for the guys and gals who used the ranged weapons on the DS Monster Hunter games. No offence to ranged players on MHW.
Right now I'm fiddling with the heavy bowgun but I was wondering:
Out of all the weapons which ones would probably be best for "hit and run" get in, get out tactics? I know the lance/shield is all about standing your ground and poking, but what about if I just want to run in and out and never stick too long in the danger zone?
For that I like to use GS with skills like Crit Draw, Focus, and Quick Sheath as a base, while adding other atk/crit boosting skills. You still have to position right and know the monster timings, but you'd be surprised how effective at hit and run the GS is with the Focus/Quick Sheath combo. Then again, this is just personal taste, and your mileage on trying this may vary.
LBG is my fav support wep. You can shoot heals, demon drugs and your job is also to cause paralyze, poison and sleep.
Bow with Evade Extender +3. I like how much ground I can cover with just one slide. Great for repositioning
The shield for SnS also builds KO my dude.
Falling shield bash to the head is one of the most reliable ko damage sources of the faster weapons. ^^
I'm currently building and working towards a bow/support build and its turning out pretty well.
I’m a flex main that mainly chooses weapons depending on the monster, like if it’s fast af, I go gunlance, if it’s big and tanky, I go insect glaive, if it flies often, I go HBG
if the charge blade shield is charged up it gains the guard up skill. its able to block more attacks without being staggered
My favorite weapon is dual Blade. Dodging attacks with cool moves in close combat and still dealing damage.
Also, I like the Feeling of beating the shit out of 'em while they're struggljng to land hits on me.
I'm stuck with insect glaive. Dancing in the air & on the ground is really fun to watch
I play the kinsect glaive differently than you do, I rarely like to power up because every time you power up the final swipe in mid air has to hit the monster in order to stay in the air, and I prefer to stay in the air all together to dodge almost all if the monster's attacks
I believe the word you are looking for bow guns is micromanagement
LBG main here, love that weapon so much
Watching your videos makes you really understand how insanely advanced the game actually is.
Switch Axe sword mode has natural minds eye and Charge Blade sns mode also has minds eye if you charge the sword, come in very handy.
I use everything but the bowguns...
Usually hunt solo so, they don't feel that powerful to do so
Which weapons don't require a "charge up" time?
It is really weird i already am experienced in the game but i still enjoy watching this videos
My main weapons are: LS, DB and GL if you need any advices.
I wanna main bow and heavy gun xD but I suck at dodging or aiming , I don't feel they are safe when the monster are too fast. Any advice from bows and gunner ?
I hope that I am not the only one that uses a Heavy Bowgun!!!!!!
Very interesting video for new pc players. Thanks!
The Horn is a Support weapon, get over it lol. A weapon that hands out team buffs. That's called a support weapon bc it supports people.
What is the best weapon for an offensive?
