    The Dakar Rally just kicked off. Any adventure that big requires some unique bikes skills, so we thought it'd be apt to start 2020 with a few Dakar inspired Mini Tip Monday's.
    Our first video is all about the finer points of how to tow a motorcycle. There are two different methods, that work fantastically bike to bike and car/truck to bike. Got any other suggestions? Let us know down below!

    Towed my mate on his broken bike across the mountain back across to Juan Knights at the TT last year after he crashed and smashed his rad. Foot peg to foot peg. Got the job done in the rain and mist. Had some scary moments on switchbacks. Got some looks from the road riders who i guess would have just called the AA....

    like it, Been recommended myself to tow from the peg opposite side to the chain where possible.

      Worked perfectly. Took about a mile of towing but it finally started. No way the battery would have ever turned the engine over enough times to get it going.

    A guy on our ride out binned his bussa on some gravel but lost a chunk of the clutch housing making it undriveable. He ended up getting his other half to drive his car over, left her with the bike and went to get a trailer for the bike, taking the best part of a day. For some reason I didn't think about towing it until now.

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  3 года назад +3

      I mean, you ride without a clutch too.

    Good instructional video. You have a nice wide tow strap. I would just add to be careful with the second method if you're using one of those thin lines. I was once towed and it cut into my handgrip, fortunately not into the wiring of my heated grips. I probably should have looped it once more around the crash bar before bringing it up to the grip.

      Not really! It's not legal to tow on public roads like this really, but also, it's no different to the above.

    For a small packable rope check out 1800lb bull line or pull tape. You will need to learn a good knot for the front bike though

    Saved me today... Being towed by a car with soft sand sections... Dont recommend that haha. But on hard and asphalt it was quite ok, was worries a little about brakes overheating front constantly braking but was ok as it was just a few kms. Cheers

    I have towed for hundreds of km on gravel and tar and mud. Always used ocky straps wrapped around the steering head under the headlight. No rellease possible. Never had a crash.

      Ive literally watched a man be dragged under is his bike because insisted on doing it that way off road. It was horrendous.
      Just because you can and have doesn't mean we shouldn't ask if there is a better way. 🙂

    *How the hell, am I going to stop? I can't use the front brake or will break my face and teeth, if I releese the cord will get loose, (this is just for a moment in fields not in the traffic) or unless you don't have to stop*

    • @BrakeMagazine
      @BrakeMagazine  2 года назад +1

      You can use both brake as Normal. The rider at the back does the braking, the rider at the front does the acceleration.
      It works very well like this. I towed more than 100km in Dakar using this method and at many other points and it has worked well.
