- We need to stop using Linux distributions like these.. we're talking LinuxFX and Wubuntu. Linux is not Windows and doesn't have the capability of helping users transition from one to another. Let's discuss why.

I have moved to Linux Mint Debian edition and I love it, but you do have to be prepared to adapt, it is not Windows, but that is why you move, to do better to stop being spied on to have freedom to change your desktop to look the way you want it, I don't see the point in using something that is a copy look alike!!!

I think it's a stretch to compare Linux to a Ferrari. It's more like taking a Lexus chassis and putting a Chevy Malibu body on it.

We should respect every users choice, and not tell them what they can and cannot use, because that is what Linux is all about, freedom, choice, liberty, privacy, etc.
But I do agree with most of your points, especially the misleading part, I definitely think a Windows themed Linux distro, it can be misleading. I've been using Wubuntu and it runs fine on my PC, and I love the theme and UI, but the database leaks ARE SCARY!!! I would hate to pay $35 and then have my data leaked to the dark web and third parties. I would not pay for Wubuntu, and it does not seem crippled if you do not pay for the premium version. However, I do give credit where it is due, the UI looks so dangerously close to Windows 11's, and the inclusion of co-pilot is nice in my opinion.
I think Wubuntu is for people who want Windows 11 without actually buying a Windows 11 computer, or your like me and you HATE Windows 11 with a passion so much you simply won't upgrade to it (I won't), so I guess my only choice, if thats the case, is Wubuntu, or some other Windows like Linux distro such as Zorin OS or Linux Mint. I don't run Wine in Linux, I use Linux native software, because that makes more sense than running all your Windows apps through some sort of compatibility layer.
Maybe when LINUX FX fixes the database leaks and proves they can be trusted, maybe, just maybe, I will consider paying $35 to support the project, but until then, I AM NOT PAYING FOR IT!
I tried both the W10 (Cinnamon) and W11 (Plasma) version out for grins. I was disappointed with both to say the least. Although they look like windows I got turned off by constant pop ups encouraging me to purchase the key, a perceivable lag when moving the mouse to select things and the fact that when I tried to install a SDR program it loaded WINE but my SDR receiver was not recognized. The PC has an 8th gen Intel processor, 16GB of memory and NVMe SSD. While it looks very good I will say W10 works much better. I'm going back to MX23 with KDE and W10 on a separate SSD.

It’s weird hearing someone besides him say “me Mutahar” when he’s saying that, it’s a shorter form of “it’s me Mutahar”, he’s not saying me is part of his name. That being said, if I didn’t know that I might be confused about it too.
As far as the difference the websites explain the differences. Though I don’t trust that they’re telling the entire truth.

The best thing about Linux is anyone can make a distro. The worst thing about Linux is anyone can make a distro. I suspect a lot of people using stuff like Wubuntu are those who have above average computer knowledge, and have an elderly parent or relative with an older PC that doesn't support Windows 11. On the surface it seems like a good idea. It's looks familiar and they'll at least get security updates. Then the problems start when they go try using some old ass piece of Windows software they "can't live without", and WINE pitches a hissy fit about dependencies and that. Your average 70+ ham & egger PC user isn't going to have a clue what to do with that. Nor will they try to track down and learn a FOSS alternative. And this is the point where that meme about Linux being for people who don't value their time starts ringing true. You're now their full time IT guy. Meanwhile you could have just gone and gotten them a cheap Chromebook or iPad, and called it a day. Of course there are a lot of dead simple distros out there. I tend to prefer these since even though I know how to customize and/or fix stuff, that doesn't mean I want to. But even stuff like Mint and Ubuntu have their quirky idiosyncrasies, and a lot of people are resistant to change.

I'm the opposite. I have no choice but to use Windows for work, but at home, I run Linux. I prefer Linux. I'd prefer it at work, but Windows is what most users know, and there is little incentive to change.
This just sounds so backwards to me. I only use windows at work when I have to, and I don't use it at home.

@@arcticfox037This is true. I play several Windows based games. At first, it was difficult to get them to work, but part of the problem was just not being familiar with Linux, and the tools available for making those games work on Linux. I use the Steam platform for some games, and I use Proton to make the games work (Proton is based on Wine). I also use Lutris for a few games that I play (they aren't available on Steam).
Aside from games, I don't use any Windows based software that doesn't have a good open source alternative available. For spreadsheets and word processing I use LibreOffice rather than try to use MS Office. For the internet, I use Firefox. There are several other alternatives for those types of applications, and many are free. It's not difficult to do a Google search for the alternatives. Most of the time you don't even have to download anything. Most Linux versions have a software management system (or package management) that makes it easier to find and install what you want.
I'm willing to put in a little effort to learn something new. If a person doesn't want to do that, that is their choice. I am a computer geek, though. 🤣

I switched from Win7 to MX Linux and I'm happy with that. Never looked back. The only thing I've missed was the mouse Win7 pointer. (but got that covered shortly after)

MX Linux comes from AntiX, who put communist links in the browser. An antifa linux is the last thing I’d want to use.
It's imperative to know the purpose these distros are made for, the creator can tell better.
I tried Mint 19.1 a while back, and it was really good. _BUT!_ . . at that time I wasn't willing to take the time to learn how to tweak it to my satisfaction. Now, however, a lot has changed. I was leaning heavy towards LMDE 6 as I have _some_ experience with the Cinnamon environment. But I have also downloaded the 'live' iso's for Debian 12 Xfce, kde and cinnamon. I simply am not the kind of person that 'gets bored' and needs to start changing things. I want stability and as long of a life as possible. And I'm sure I'll eventually dual-boot too. Regardless, a 'Debian' it will be.

Agreed! It was bad enough hearing Linus in his Challenge kvetching about why Linux doesn't do things just like Windows. (I was tempted to paraphrase dmr and comment "If you want Windows, you know where to find it.") No need to encourage more of that by trying to look like Windows. Start newcomers right from the beginning.

I agree with this Vid, Linux is a unique OS vs Windows and being a new user of Linux a little over a month now I dont even want my desktop close to looking like Windows accepting the fact its not Windows hahaha. All I can say about Linux performance is its more snappier than Windows when it comes down to having a lot of apps being installed known to decrease performance.

at the past id store data from user purchasing keys in a SQL database, it got leaked also, horrible, very insecure to say the least.
I have installed both of them for a test, when I saw that they want 35USD for a PowerTool key I just erased the installation.
This Linux version is good for old devices, but 35 bux for a key.... sorry, my device is 100 bux, there is no way I will pay that for such an old device.
About 6:30. We are talking here to new Linux people or prospective Linux people.
At the risk of confusing people, there are a number of solutions to this. There are several options.
The Windows Subsystem for Linux is one. You don't like it, I don't like it... There is a certain use case for it. If you work for Microsoft, and you are developing stuff for Asure, which is the M$ cloud thing, which runs partly on Windows server and partly on Linux, it would be extremely convenient to have a copy of the M$ Linux or some common distro, running inside Windows, so you can inter-operate between them... or something.
For everybody else, there is dual-boot, either on the same drive or (better solution) on a different drive. If I wanted to Linux, but I also wanted to game on Windows, I'd buy a 2nd drive and have a copy of each, with a grub menu on start up.
Then there are Virtual Machines.
VMware is one. VirtualBox is another. Not sure about Windows these days, but on the Linux side there is QEMU and several others. I use Virtualbox.
One could run Windows on bare metal (the host) and a VBox, and have a copy of Ubuntu in a VM.
Or (and this is what I do) run Linux (Mint + Mate for me) and VBox, and have about a dozen guest installs, including one Window$s 11 and one or more examples of the most popular Linux distros.
I have several complaints about Windows but the most serious, is I don't control that computer, Microsoft do. Running a Linux inside Windows, is a bit like tucking my shiny new condom (still in the packet) inside my foreskin to protect it from girl's germs. I would much rather run a copy of Window$ inside a VM, inside Linux Mint. Then I know what my computer is doing, because that's what I told it, not Such-a-Nutella. But that isn't an ideal solution if you're a gamer.
TLDR ~ there is not one, but about 5 or 6 different ways you can do this, each with its own pros & cons.
I would not recommend these distributions because these guys have sketchy history and is closed-source for some reason. Linux is supposed to be open-sourced like really.
I wasn't fond enough of Windows to want my OS to resemble it. I just want my OS to not be overly complicated to install, set up and use. Arch originally was the "difficult" version of Linux, but they created an installer that makes it much easier to do. It was the only way I could get Arch successfully installed and fully functional with a DE. I ended up using Manjaro, though. I'm pretty happy with it.
Say whatever you want about their grift but the dudes did a phenomenal job theming KDE. Would be cool If they could harness those skills without the shady business practices.

On LinuxFX now, love it! I compared Mint, Zorin, LinuxFX together in one weekend. Zorin was buggy - Snaps can't access other file locations, video player can only play once, mouse was laggy, had hard crashes. Mint is ugly and primitive. You have to pick mirrors and there's a lot of pop ups with technical info, but Software in Zorin/LinuxFX is just click/install and it works. You don't need to buy LinuxFX, free works fine. Power tools is amazing, making settings so easy. Can run Windows and Android programs, comes with everything I need and integrated. Advantage to me is much faster than Win11 on same machine, uses less RAM, and don't need to reboot every week with updates, and no ads on the menu. Only needed command line to add Flathub support.
The biggest issue was Audacity didn't work in Zorin. Also Calibre ran once then never again.

Windows have no future, i have been running Debian KDE since 2019 it just works. so no need for windows anymore :-)
please make a video on how to to use kde + hyprland or qtile for the window manager instead of kwin. Meaning all the services of kde and hyprland or qtile as window manager in wayland same session.
Who wants to use these silly Distros anyway? You’d have a better time using Debian, Mint, Fedora, opsnSUSE, and yes even Unbuntu instead of those Windows wannabes. You get all of the usual Linux features for free, and they have better Wine and application comparability. Plus, you are free to do whatever you want with your Linux install!
Building a theme similar to a proprietary operating system or use the term "windows" is not a patent violation because no one can patent a common word existing in the dictionary as "windows". And only very inattentive or even stupid people can confound both operating systems. One should be more concerned about these lesser known companies in terms of security of using their operating systems, whether there isn't some kind of keyboard logger for example, in summary whether it is safe to trust the OS with our personal data.
Why the hell.. would people like the Windows 11 theme... it's nothinig special, Gnome, KDE, XFCE, Trinity, Apple have way more elegant themes...
The only two Windows who have had great theme were XP and Vista, and thats it..
Wubuntu creators said they will make it look like Windows, and they really did, which also includes the security compromise features of Windows. 🤣🤣

Either have a dedicated machine for windows or spin up a VM, it's not hard. If a tard like me can do it so can everyone else on the planet.
Wubuntu & LinuxFX are such a waste, they could be maintaining an actual distro that adds value to the Linux community. Zorin OS & Mint are superior to these trash microsoft clones in every way. Arco Linux > all of the above.

Recommending people to use ZorinOS is irresponsible. ZorinOS ships snaps by default.. Not good for beginners who want an open source, private and secure OS.

@@roberttranceedm It is, snapd is proprietary software and closed-ecosystem controlled by canonical, it gives them more control over your computing habits like apple and microsoft, we shouldn't be recommending this to beginners who want to use linux, especially ones who do so for privacy and security reasons.
Its not good to recommend beginners to switch from one closed ecosystem to another under the false guise of open source and freedom.. snap is not open source and does not respect user freedom.. its irresponsible to recommend beginners to use ZorinOS or snap-based canonical distros.
This is why we should be pushing flatpak, not snap.
For beginners to linux reading this, i recommend Linux Mint, far better and more secure OS than proprietary ubuntu or zorin.
