We found this footage from a golden tunnel in the desert, from when we were shooting the album cover for #StayGold in Death Valley in 2013 with the one and only Neil Krug. Can’t believe we never used it!

I love the acoustics of tunnels. Something about it gives a horn sound. I found a tunnel under Highway 61 on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota USA. It curves gently, organically and lends itself to the voice, like a throat I imagine, shaping sound. Thanks for this golden clip!

It's such a lost opportunity that this was filmed on a phone instead of a proper camera and microphone. The audio distortion just makes me sad.
I think it captures the rawness of the location and performance just fine. Whatever it was filmed on, it would still be 11 years old compared to modern equipment, so people would still complain. The most important thing when you look at video and audio from all eras is that we had sufficient technology to capture the moments and preserve them. We don’t worry about the exact quality. Or we shouldn’t anyway.

@@christill I'm not asking for studio quality. Their cover of Tiger Mountain Peasant Song from 2008 that kickstarted their careers was recorded in similar circumstances and it still sounds great today. This iPhone recording is so bad that it makes me wince.
Strange thing to make one "sad," since their voices are beautiful and that tunnel would have unique echo and reverb, but if you really can't kick your grief, contact the band and offer your exceptional filmmaking and recording services. Also, this is from 2013. I don't know how one could possibly know if this was shot on an iPhone, and if it was, so what? They found this archival footage and posted it. Not sad, happy.
