I absolutely LOVED this book. Glad it made it onto the short list!
I thought it was really funny particularly the Sephora sections, but also really packs a punch with how African immigrants are seen in France (Europe). The post 9/11 and how this will influence their line of work was also really interesting to hear about.

In the 1990s, I worked in McDonalds in Paris, our production caller was from Cote d'Ivoire, the staff was a great diverse mix, our manager was a Moroccan woman, McDonalds has its detractors but they do promote based on merit not on race, nationality or gender. Standing Heavy sounds an interesting read.
