- Sonam Wangchuk is among the winners of this year's Ramon Magsaysay Award, regarded as the Asian version of the Nobel Prize.
Mr. Wangchuk is being recognized for "his uniquely systematic, collaborative, and community-driven reform of learning systems in remote northern India, thus improving the life opportunities of Ladakhi youth, and his constructive engagement of all sectors in local society to harness science and culture creatively for economic progress, thus setting an example for minority peoples in the world."

In India he will NOT survive. This Great man will be torn to pieces by Indian politics. Let the man be happy in Ladakh and look after his people. Did you listen to him? He said “ Money was not the priority for him” In India people will try to buy him, his thoughts, his technology, with money. He will reject , that will cause EGO issue with Indians and they will shatter him. Why go for all that? I can understand, that what you said is in good faith good intentions, sad to say it will not work. Let the man be as simple as he is among his own people. But Indians could learn from him, can Indians learn from him? If this great man do these things, ANY MAN CAN DO. Even Indians can do. But NO, no indian will do. That’s the problem with Indians. Indians want to catch fish without getting wet. Let the man be happy among his own people.
