And of the five games this one is the only i won't be able to play , i skipped my Japanese classes 😅 but thanks to you i won't need to , those videos about the lore were amazing , and this video , just like all the others , is amazing , you never cease to impress me , 80' dark fantasy is a aesthetic that suits so well this franchise .
Indeed! I'm glad you enjoyed it! There's also the animation of the Prince of Zenobia visual novel that I did here on the channel that was also really cool, it's worth taking a look!
Now, this is going to be interesting, since aside from your synopsis (which my Swiss cheese brain has forgotten), I have no idea of what these characters are "supposed" to look like or what story function they serve. So it's going to be a clean slate. First and foremost, this sounds like the SNES track. From the limitations of Neo Geo Pocket, I'm guessing the actual score wouldn't sound as good. I've never bothered to look up gameplay videos, so I wouldn't know. Young Tristan is looking like a young Jonathan Brandis here. He looks young, but not too young. I like it. That dark armor is a hint of the choices that await. AI casting is taking it up a notch with a distinctive face for Cain. He's a great contrast to Tristan even from this image alone. Tristan, for good or for ill, seems to be groomed for success, but Cain has a hungrier vibe, and his costume suggests he at least starts closer to the people. I also like how his hair is messier than Tristan's. Whoa, Estrada is really close to his sprite! Maybe a little beefier, but I can see where this is a clear interpretation. What I like about the real life image is that he projects an image of strength and that with the golden armor gives you cues that he's in this story for the long haul...which only makes his exit all the more impactful. Kazuma looks refined and shifty. Again, I literally forgot if he's supposed to be an antagonist or not, but the lighting makes him look like one. I like the added detail of the ring and a pendant, but if he offered me a drink, I'd have to say no. Young Aquarius looks serious and stern. She is not like the AI renditions of Norn, Aisha, or Katreda. She looks like one of those nuns from Catholic school who would paddle you if you got out of hand. A great touch in that she's wearing a dark habit instead of light one, because not only would and 80's Western nun look like that, but it also suggests a more complicated role in the story. It is a closer match to Tristan's hue, so as TVTropes puts it "Dark is Not Evil." This is a better werewolf than AI Sirius! Not only does it look era-appropriate, but it also fits the character more. After all, this guy would wear gloves just so there aren't any accidental scratches. Plus we know that despite being bloodthirsty, Bahkim does try to control his slake for killing, so him having a more humanoid stance as well as wearing armor (with enlarged chains on his arms, no less) communicated that, in spite of all that red. Is he dangerous? Absolutely, but he's trainable! I'm going to break this up so it doesn't all get lost!
yes, an unbiased analysis without the vices of nostalgia and passion for characters from past experiences will be something different, eager to read your opinion on this one!
And here we go with "Miss AI sameface" in Princess Nana. Her sprite has personality - spunky, confident, and feisty - but the AI model just a living doll. I like her gown, though, and the shift to pink/lavender and black is lot more appealing. I'm not sure what AI did with that weird artifacting with her hair in that open space between the pillar behind her. It's almost as if it wanted to treat it as a reflection, but maybe it's just the stunt double the editors forgot to erase. Gallun...This is quite a departure from the sprite and not in a bad way. For gameplay purposes, it's nice to give beastmasters a unique sprite, but really, unless you're a professional wrestler, seasoned characters don't always have the physique to pull it off, especially in the 80s. The blue/gray/brown color scheme I'm more iffy on, but switching out a whip for a staff/sword is fine. The king looks just like his sprite, except a little older. And here we get to Jenga. With the mud on his beard and cling from his hair, he looks super creepy. and halfway looks like he crawled out of a grave himself. It's a good choice that we can see that evil grin, and switching his robes to fully crimson is a much more sinister look. No need to worry about bloodstains when you're wearing all red! Banya's an accurate rendition, but I always assumed she'd be a hair older, as in early-middle aged. That's just me, though.
@@WarrenReport ...but I didn't finish this one first. (No, it's my fault. I got super distracted by lots of things.) Older Tristan is a curious departure from the sprite, and the sprite looks closer to the future King we are about to know, but this guy looks more like he's ready for war and possibly on a darker path. Cain looks weirdly hopeful and innocent here, almost the same age as his younger self. Obviously in a lobe-action production the same "actor" would play both roles. Aquarius looks flat out evil here. Evil priestesses are cool...but I thought she was just morally gray at worst. Then again maybe she's a subversion, in which case at least the dark clothing and those eyebrows make her stand out. That said, I do like how the cross around her neck has a strap which makes it look like an ankh. Goldy is an 80s Dark Fantasy recreation of her sprite. Spot on! She understood the assignment. Orozov is an another subject artistic license. The actor has the intensity and the hair is great, but he's clearly not wearing plate armor in his sprite...but the interpretation of this clothes as armor is so good, it does fall in line with what a film would be. Gloth is okay, but again, AI has its limits here. It probably couldn't properly render a scar. It did so well on the armor though. Yorkaif looks both tough and yet askew like his sprite. AI gave him incredibly detailed armor but couldn't figure out that hairline. I don't mind the loss in the split-color breastplate because there's no way to translate that without it looking goofy. Durham's sprite looks like a shifty figure you aren't sure you should trust but will anyway. Durham's AI image makes him look like a mean, ugly old man, but that lower half of his face gives me major Uncanny Valley vibes, like a Mindflayer with a glamour. Commander Grant looks like his sprite, except simplified. This one is another one that screams 80's production. WERETIGER ALERT! WERETIGER ALERT! This is what an 80's production would do. "Um...we don't have any tiger make up." "Just paint a werewolf costume yellow and fix it in post-production." No, I don't hate it. I love it. I also love how you make Kiros not wearing any clothes as a contrast to Bahkim. This is what a feral animal looks like. Come to mama...oh, what wonderful transformation sequences I will imagine in my mind. All and all, a vast improvement on the same old sprite that they kept palette swapping. Oh, Baron, Baron. I'm loving that curtained hair, that middle part, those curly locks and that dark leather. He looks like something out of a Raimi/Renaissance Pictures production from the 90s, but I'll give it a pass. He looks cool. Mondo cool. Kodama is 80s charm and 80s scary and I am loving it. Not only is a accurate to the sprite, it's accurate to the era. This is what I would imagine the Skin-Taker from Candle Cove to look like. No, this isn't campy Skeletor. This guy will scare the pants out of little girls and little boys. You wisely did not have his skeletal form show too much, because imagining what is underneath is scarier. Marenoa is a great adaptation (better than Porkyus). Changing the mermaid horns to a mermaid crown is a great, seasoned AI user choice which matches with the rest of her outfit. I love her armor, her spear, and her shoulder-covering-sleeve things with fabric that looks like fins without actually showing the fins (which would be extremely sparingly used for a 80s production). She also has a more unique face and face shape. This is a good cinematic design. She looks like she's going to WAR! Hayato is what an 80s production would do to the character. That costume looks cheap as whatever, but it's funny because after blowing the budget on the werewolf, the weretiger, and other SFX, they'd just tell the actor to put on some rags. LOL. Belgo looks good, although that dragon skull is a little too small. The sprite looks androgynous, but while the live-action version is handsome, he isn't "bishie" enough for me. Paired with the armor, I can imagine the director telling the costume designer saying, "We do not want any confusion that this character is anything but a man." Then again, this is probably the last time Dragon Tamers of this design are actually male in the series. Not that I'm complaining. That transition made me jump! Balder...now THIS is what a final boss looks like. You saved the best for last. Who would have through getting rid of the third "eye" would make him even more frightening. 10/10. Onto the next video.
another cool one
Thanks!
