- Today I take a deep look at the 2 new melee weapons (Katana and Nunchucks) and compare them to the default Combat Knife. I compare the maximum kills range, the kill width, as well as the melee speed. I hope you enjoy!

Something I heard someone else claim but didn’t see you test - they said that the Katana had a higher melee range. In other words, the nunchucks has a buff to horizontal range and the katana had a buff to vertical range. Any clue if this is accurate?

That Stuff with the Katana annoys me. Wish it had like a 5-6 meter range to make up for its now slower attack speed.

Do you have data for recovery frames on miss for the melee weapons? Specifically for the knife. I'm pretty sure the knife's recovery frames are shorter than the full swings for katana and nunchaku, since the latter two don't have special animations for a kill. Maybe that's why they released these weapons with special properties and they're not technically "better" than the knife.
I also have a question. Do you think they will keep IW fresh for another year like they did BO3???? I'm curious to know because I'm a huge fan of IW
I think it's likely. Maybe not to the same extent as BO3 but I'm confident we'll still see content throughout the next year

Emmanuel Graphics honestly I'm not, you only have to ask infinity ward how many people play the public lobbies, I don't hate the game, I thoroughly enjoyed the campaign and the multiplayer isnt terrible, its just not much better than average, which is why people won't continue playing as much as BO3 imo

Hey ace if you use the combo for the katana ( what would normally be ads + the regular attack button ) you can get that extended range thing
test the katana from above objects and from up to down maybe its vertical buff ?
Do they mean the actual range of the melee attack itself and not the 3 meter distance covered with the attack? A katana is longer than a knife after all. I don't use the melee weapons at all thus far, do you always lunge when you attack with a melee weapon?

I know this is from 3 years ago but the katana's swing time depends on what stance your in (this does effect multi-kills) which is pretty cool
I knew it. Thank You Ace for proofing me right. I kept trying to get kills with the Kintana, yet I was dying all the time. Once I tried to get the kills with the normal range I stated getting those kills...

What about while sprinting? Will the katana have a longer range?
In my opinion the nunchucks should have less range for the wider allowance, the katana more narrow for a longer range, the combat knife in the middle, all 3 with special cancelable animations (crouching or prone does this with the knife) , same recovery time, and ability to prone with all 3 instead of just the knife

Also you can sprint lunge at an enemy (sorry if you mentioned that)
I've been having too much fun with the Nunchucks. I completed all the camos for it already and I got the epic one from this week's hack.
That seems strange to me. My testing did put the Katana out a little further in reach. About 1.3 meters. Either way it's not a particularly important advantage either way. It's also worth noting that the katana and numchucks have a slower raise and drop speed compared to the combat knife.

With the normal knife sometimes you slash and sometimes you stab. Feels like slashing would have a quicker follow up attack.

Ace, you need to use the combo of L2 and R2 to activate the lung for the Katana
Just did a quick test and this is completely false
TheXclusiveAce really? Hmm... maybe they mean it has an increased lung range over other melees with that combo. If not I think it's just bugged
And lung as in brings you towards the target.
Your not suppose to stay still and knife cause it will all be the same , it is better to run and knife , specially with katana
TheXclusiveAce the new epic Masamune is a one shot plus a longer range that I tested. Plus. My Katana does the same range as the rest. My Masamune has even more range than my katana

Tbh, I like how the melee weapons are different (makes them feel like new weapons and not just reskins). I *don't* like how the nun chucks are statiscally superior than the other three weapons, though.

Yusuf Demirkol They’re only exclusive to supply drops, that’s how you unlock them. Though, you can craft and unlock the Axe - Headsman for 4K Salvage in the Prototype Lab in the Quartermaster.
I think they shouldve added like 50% attack range to the katana. At least this CoD didn't all the exact same melee stats like Bo3 did. God that was dumb.
BO3 melee wasn't exactly the same, it was close, but not exactly, go watch on tabor hills channel, he made videos on the differences... there was difference in how fast you could double kill, and I think also a little in range... or maybe it was something else... but there were difference - and THAT was stupid, because they claimed it was the same.
From what I understand, those differences were patched to make sure everything was in line with the knife again. I cant look into it now, but I distinctly remember that being somewhere in patch notes.

Melee range has always been stupid in my opinion. I feel like its commando range a bit.
Not even remotely close to commando. MW2's Commando range is 7.7m which is far more than double the 3m range of IW's melee
After playing BO3, and getting all them meelee weapons, and insisting on getting black sky on them all, knifing in IW was/is so easy, because of the massive range, you practised with something a lot more limiting, so here you can really own.
