Being self sufficient is the complete opposite of being selfish. Simple living is to distinguish between necessary and superfluous, useful and wasteful, beautiful and vulgar. Anyone who would think you are selfish, clearly has no comprehension of self sufficiency.
It is not selfish. It is smart. Everyone would benefit from learning to do more for themselves and to depend less on an economy that can sideways at any time.

NOT SELFISH!!! You are contributing to your neighbors the earth and stewarding your land. And you are planting seeds of a more simple lifestyle for your viewers. God bless you.
You have a right to try to find happiness your way so long as you don't hurt anybody. Even if you decided to never again interact with another human being, it's your choice. Don't listen to people who tell you otherwise.
I am not self-sufficient, but my experience after moving to a rural area almost 10 years ago compares to yours. I can't say that everyone is helpful and caring, but two have been especially helpful, cutting and delivering firewood, performing electrical work, bringing heavy equipment to help me remove a dilapidated structure, arriving the morning after a recent tornado to remove tree debris, etc. They will not accept money, but I try to repay in other ways. I am at least 50 years older than you are. You are not selfish. My view is that we owe individual kindness, but I do not owe society. My footprint is very small.
It's not selfish to live as self sufficient as possible. I'm not off-grid, but really enjoy growing food in my large garden... yielding fresher, more healthy food. 😊😊
Life has become too commercialised and you have the right idea going off grid and not contributing to the greed of the big conglomerates and their millionaire lifestyles! I applaud you for what you have achieved, well done and be proud. Lx
Selfish? I think not. Privileged? Perhaps a little. Not everyone has access to land or a body that can labour. But these aren't your problems either ❤ Love you and your chosen lifestyle, bro.
Since I moved remotely I have been of more use to my others than I was when I was in the City. Also, living a simple self sufficient life that requires less resources is one of the most unselfish things you can do. You're smashing it dude. Keep the great content coming

Everyone I ever met made their own beds. By that I mean we all usually just end up doing whatever it is ""We" "want. Sometimes it goes North, and it takes us longer to get there. But eventually we all get there. I knew an older woman about 80 years old who works for a cruise line. She doesn't work there for the money. She gets to travel all over the world and gets discounts and freebies all the time. Her first 30 years went to her family. Never had 2 nickels to rub together. Kids gone, husband chasing younger women. She did what she had always wanted to do. Travel the world. Do what you want while you're young and able. Life is constantly throwing us curves. We make up what we do. No one else. I know a guy who just never went back home. He left everything he owned. Just kept driving one day. Started from scratch. And he's loving life. He said he wakes up smiling everyday now. Peace.
I literally love and admire the way you're living life here self sufficiently and this is not selfish at all, the problem is people are always gonna point you out for whatever and however you do, in fact you're also contributing in the society by living responsibly, and by consuming just enough. I'm really happy for you and wish you good luck ahead so that you keep on living just like this peacefully and gracefully. Cheers.
Living off grid and creating a beautiful food forest that you can share with your neighbors is the perfect way to live. Just found your channel….love it. I live in the USA…trying to be more and more self sufficient even though I live close to town . I have a garden, chickens, ducks, a few quail. Honey bees too.
In no way is your lifestyle selfish....it is very commendable to see someone being able to take care of themselves without relying on governments. I have great respect for what you are doing, don't ever think otherwise, you are very inspiring to many!!
New to your channel, and it’s absolutely not selfish to live self sufficient! True you probably don’t monetarily contribute to the nation as much if you were still in the rat race but you don’t consume and add to the detrimental factors either in fact you add more than you take! You have a right to live happily and at peace with yourself and I envy your life. It’s what I would love to do! Great channel your an inspiration.
No, it's not selfish. I would suggest that at least some of those who say so are just jealous. You showed us in a previous video what you do away from home. You volunteer in a local shop, you travel and teach others how to build houses and be self sufficient, which means buying fuel. You do have to buy a certain amount of provisions. Sugar, coffee, tinned goods etc. This all contributes to your community, and would also imply that you pay taxes on at least some of your ventures.
yeah, I don't see why anyone would suggest self-sufficiency is selfish....being self-sufficient is our de facto way of being in the world if you go back to the hunter-gatherer days. It's only in modern civilization that we have gotten away from that default.
Here’s my take on the issue… In general, deep down, this kind of life would be a dream for me. I’m all about the solitude and simplicity, self sufficiency and being in nature. However, as an ethical vegan and animal rights activist, removing myself completely from society is something I’m not sure I could do. I have always had a very strong guiding compass of living a life of service and making a difference in this world for animals, with one of my mantras being the quote, “Activism is the rent I pay for living on this planet”. If I left society I would essentially be abandoning those who need me so desperately. UNLESS I found a way to weave a cabin in the woods life with activism…perhaps a RUclips channel called “Vegan Off-Gridding”. ✌️Sigh, my physical condition and related circumstances make all of the above impossible, but I do enjoy living the life vicariously through channels like yours. So thank you. 🙏 #GoVegan

I appreciate this question and discussion. Not it not selfish, you got out of the rat race and showing younger generation that this can be done and live a full, healthy and fun life!! This my plan in later part of my life simplicity is greatest pleasure!! Thank you for sharing your video and hopefully gets message out there to people follow the same path!! Well done!
We moved to our off grid property near a very small town 6 years ago. We were never so involved with our community before. And i live growing things, so we have an abundance of potatoes, garlic, luttuce, peaches, apples, eggs to give to friends and neighbours. We volunteer with the community centre. We occasionally have volunteers or visitors come to help and learn all about what we do. Our neighbours are great and we all share tools, equipment, food, labour, etc. I was intrigued by the title of your video because it had never once occurred to me to be a selfish lifestyle.
Anyone looking upon his lifestyle and calling it selfish is, quite frankly, an indoctrinated Marxist. Socialism is the narrow tip of the wedge that eventually delivers the average person to accept these fundamentally flawed ideologies, which exploit whole populations in order to extract vast sums of wealth for a small group at the top. The evil genius of that ideology is that it makes the individual demand the exploitation from both themselves and others. The irony is that the perceived benefits actually come at great expense to the individual and, ultimately, at great expense to the collective. We are all witnessing the culmination of this flawed ideology right now. Generational manipulation has removed many of us from being able to recognize a natural, functioning system on a human scale. Some of us have seen through the conditioning. Some of us are arriving at the solution intuitively because, against all odds, we somehow have retained a deeper knowledge that has rejected the conditioning.
Funny that some people consider "not contributing" as a negative. You aren't contributing to pollution or vast amounts of trash. You are not contributing to traffic and the pollution it creates. You aren't contributing to overtaxing of the commercial food chain by not relying on commercial farms. You are not taking away from what others need. You are contributing by inspiring people to live as God and nature intended us to. I'm glad that you choose to address this question, but I would have to look at anyone who would question you as an idiot.
Exactly spot on and well said. It is beyond my comprehension that people ACTUALLY believe that this lifestyle is selfish and “not contributing towards society”. It is the total opposite. It’s cleaner and more naturally occuring for the environment. Truly insane how many cant see or understand it. Scary actually…..
Definitely NOT SELFISH at all. I'm sure there are many people that would love to live like you. I think you are so fortunate to experience nature and all it has to offer. You're not alone. You have a wonderful companion, your dog. He's awesome! Keep on doing life your way. We are only traveling through this world one time! It's not a dress rehearsal!
I think you have got yourself together. Most people would love to have your lifestyle and live in a place as beautiful as yours plus have great neighbors. And by the way I love your accent.
Your are not selfish. You are smart. I wish I could live like you do. I do try to grow and forage what I can but I rely on a local farmer or 2 to get some of my veggies from to can. I also dehydrate what I can too. That way I can have some herbs to add to my soups in the winter.
Living off-grid selfish?.. That's preposterous! Anyone thinking that living in a dense , congested, usually polluted, materialistically inclined, overpopulated cities is helping to contribute to the well-being of self, society, and nature is very much programmed and willingly so, into thinking this way... Anders, I envy you. You've made the great decision to live holistically, like those advanced races outside of this realm... And that modern humans have to remember and re-learn again...💫
I think there are two sides to this. There is not enough land for every person on earth to have their own little idyllic garden and live off the grid and be self sufficient. However, not everyone wants to do that. And you are right in that there is no motivation for people in cities that are detached from the direct consequenses to reduce the usage of water and electricity and other resources. We can all contribute in our own ways, but overconsumtion is certainly not a contribution. The need is urgent for building cities more sustainably and changing the economic systems from growth oriented to sustainable. People that show different ways of living are needed. And maybe some people have to complain and criticise because that is the only way they can hold their own conscience away.
Your way of life is thoughtful and caring, both for society and the planet - may we all learn what is really needed for our wellbeing from your example. Thank you so much for sharing it with us🌿🌿🌿
Don't worry about negative comments. Their selfless life made the world mess. Your life is really really wonderful. In india societal pressure is more. It is very difficult to live like this. Wish me your life for me. Love from INDIA.
This is such an interesting conversation to have. I'm on disability income and they keep trying to get me to work, which I can't. I'd love a lifestyle similar to yours, and it would suit both my skillset and my disabilities more than any conventional job. But the disability income would rather have me in a job doing something meaningless in a quiet room by myself (because that's autism friendly right/s) and they'd consider it being part of society more than they would your lifestyle, which is absurd to me. Getting exploited doesn't make you a part of society, interacting with your surroundings does.
Very true! Thank you for sharing your story!! And I hope for you that you’ll find a more fitting job at some point - maybe they will agree to let you try to help out on a small farm or something more outdoorsy and practical and then maybe make a program for that?🤞
The unfortunate thing is that society has taught many of us that our sense of self-worth should be dependent on what others say or think of us..........that's not to say that we shouldn't be kind, compassionate and considerate of the needs of others.....but you have chosen a life in which your sense of self-worth is abundantly nourished by your ability to 'be present in the moment'..............You are living one of the most helpful lessons derived from mindfulness, with its grounding in Buddhism!
I wonder how many people that refer to you as selfish can name at least 4 neighbors. You are not selfish in the least. There is the “human economy” to which you directly contribute to in your community. Stay true. Stay you.
Estou no mesmo caminho e vc me inspira muito. Não é egoísmo, ao contrário é muito mais altruísmo. Pois, consideramos toda a vida ao redor. Gratidão por tantos ensinamentos
Taking responsibility for your own needs (instead of expecting the government or society or just pushing it off on others) is the most UNselfish thing you could do! It frees you up to share and give and help. Becoming a producer instead of a consumer means more freedom for you and less wasteful, mindless, consumption that exploits the lowest-paid workers and ultimately only benefits those at the top.
I do not think this is selfish, what you do is great not only to your well being but also to the community and enviroments. Thanks for sharing another possiblity of lives.
Agreed, It's not selfish......It's vital we have more people moving towards sustainable living. The environment is under much strain for human over consumption. I hope to be 100% off grid by next summer on my small Qunita in Portugal.

Love your awesome message !! Great job!
Totally not selfish.I like the environment and no stress at all.Very peaceful.
Our son's really enjoy watching your channel, they like your common sense approach to living free from a fragile infrastructure and uncertain economy
You don't owe anyone anything, it's your life and no one else's! ❤
It's truly beautiful and healthy 💗💗💗
I think you have got yourself together. Most people would love to have your lifestyle and live in a place as beautiful as yours plus have great neighbors. And by the way I love your accent.
What a nice way to live. You have healthy community going on there too.
Your are not selfish. You are smart. I wish I could live like you do. I do try to grow and forage what I can but I rely on a local farmer or 2 to get some of my veggies from to can. I also dehydrate what I can too. That way I can have some herbs to add to my soups in the winter.
There is nothing selfish about living the way you do!!!! God Bless
Living off the grid is a choice, one that should be applauded as does any other life choices as long as they support sustainability.
Thank you ❤
Living off-grid selfish?..
It is a smart life
You are absolutely right on!- society had changed dramaticly -it's "I don't give a damn society" greed had taken over people in major cities so sad😢😢😢
I appreciate your perspective. Thank you!
Love your dog. Congrats from a person living in the United States.
sir thank you for inspiring me. ❤
Wonderful video. Very interesting content 👏 🙂
I agree on all accounts👌
Your way of life is thoughtful and caring, both for society and the planet - may we all learn what is really needed for our wellbeing from your example. Thank you so much for sharing it with us🌿🌿🌿
Just found your channel through and online article and I love it.
Thank you very much ! Very good content as usual
Well said! 😃
Jo men varför ska vi som vill jobba betala för alla andra som inte vill😡 där är din livsstil bättre 😊 du är en stor inspiration ❤😊
I wonder how many people that refer to you as selfish can name at least 4 neighbors. You are not selfish in the least. There is the “human economy” to which you directly contribute to in your community. Stay true. Stay you.
Thanks😊
Very insightful! 🙏😀
Beautiful video footage!!❤
Thanks! You’re very welcome😊
Bro u use really really great music ..the best I've heard on a video
Agreed, It's not selfish......It's vital we have more people moving towards sustainable living. The environment is under much strain for human over consumption. I hope to be 100% off grid by next summer on my small Qunita in Portugal.
I enjoy your channel very much and wish we could be neighbors :) I live in upstate NY and my better years are behind me but youngsters such as you are inspiring. Rich
Lovely place and video
My mom used to make rhubarb pie and jam from the garden. So delicious.
Hello, thanks for the chat and no I do not think it's selfish in the least. I think it's for the greater good. We will all eventually need to learn this way to live. The current Societal Constructs cannot continue Indefinitely. I believe If Humanity is to survive it will need to evolve And live more simply and gently on the earth, just like you're doing. I admire you. 😊🙏🌎
Thanks😊And I really agree!!
I will be 70 yrs old next month, here in NZ where i live we had 1/4 acre sections, everyone help each other, grow our own veges ,fruit, raised chickens should a depression hit, sadly many will have learned, the government needs to help.
