The writers really said “let’s save the world with the power of gay.” Catra's last line "of course I'm going with you dummy" makes me emotional every single time, because in episode 2, when Adora asked her to come with her and Catra took that as a betrayal, but by the end it's a no-brainer that of course she would go with her.
And it DELIVERED! Big time, so emotionally powerful and narratively satisfying, and so groundbreaking for the LGBTQIA+ community. Love it love it. And yes, that's such a cute final Catra line, didn't think about it that way until you mentioned it hehe ugh, I love this show so much!
that glimmer vs. micah fight was BRUTAL. glimmer is so strong, both in power and in spirit. that whole monologue made me cry. she has come SO FAR and has grown so much. our queen 💜 when angella popped up on the screen i was bawling my eyes out btw

she-ra, the show were love LITERALLY saves the universe. wasn't this the most epic ad beautiful love confession ever? just right after horde prime shatters adora's wish, when adora thinks she's failed and she's at her lowest, catra confesses. she shows her that she deserves love too, no matter what. and adora says it back. and THAT KISS. shera is the literal embodiment of love, and that's beautiful. i love them
My thoughts on Hordak's arc: I don't believe in punishment. I believe in rehabilitation and restitution. I think we can safely infer that Hordak has been rehabilitated and will not create any more armies intended to conquer Etheria. As for restitution? Well, that's a big debt to have to pay down, and I don't know that he ever could, but I like to think he'll try.
I've read somwhere, that the show runners said that he was tasked with the cleanup of beast island. Kind of a community service thing. Oh, and also Entrapta willingly joins him.
You basically put my thoughts into words. This goes for Catra too. I think she did (and is going to continue to) pay her dues by helping the rebellion.

I'm glad that Adora and Catra were able to save the universe by admitting their feelings for each other as well as kissing each other and being a couple. I'm also glad that the series had an open-ended ending with the best friend squad on a new adventure. Maybe it could lead to Adora finding her family, particularly her twin brother Adam, aka He-man. I even hope that it could potentially lead to Angella being rescued from between dimensions.
That would be an incredible concept for a continuation, I thought about that actually with including Skeletor or something similar. And saving Angella would be such a beautiful full circle if done correctly 🙌
shadow weaver's sacrificing herself was so confusing to me and yet it made complete sense. i still don't fully get her reasoning, but i guess after that confrontation with adora and then with catra, SW realised that she had no influence over them anymore. she had completely failed in everything in her life, at this point. so really all she could do now was help the same two girls she abused their whole life in their attempt to save the universe. and the only way she can do that is by sacrificing herself for them. i think her motivation is still inherently selfish, better to die doing one good thing than to confront all the damage she's caused. i mean, she doesn't even apologise, she actually says "you're welcome". but she acknowledges catra's strength and resilience. she acknowledges she caused some irreparable damage, so it's "too late for her". i guess in her own twisted way she did feel affection for them, but for SW "love" actually means ownership and control over someone. an ideology catra and adora had inherited at the beginning, but they have now learned to let go. catra and adora now know what real love actually means.
Your right because SW was always horrible to everyone but worst to Catra and Adora. like she abused them in two different ways but she also taught them stuff like don't trust everyone don't do stuff for power or to help everyone because you can't have all the power you can't save everyone. She hurt Catra in a worst way than Adora but she still hurt them both and her sacrificing herself is just another way of abuse as well SW never changed like she also abused Glimmer and made her not trust her friends because SW sucks I'm so glad she died.
the series finale of she-ra really was such a masterpiece, like, i must stress the fact that i pretty much never remember watching things for the first time, idk why, it all just kinda fades into a general impression of "i liked it" or "i didn't" but this finale, man. i remember it so clearly. i remember rushing to watch s5 the day it dropped, and i remember SOBBING my way through the last half of this episode. i cried so hard it took me twenty minutes after it ended to calm down even a little. it was so beautiful and so important. even four years later it's still rare that queer love is this front and centre in a story. they didn't just acknowledge it and move on, they literally made it the beating heart of the show, and for that she-ra will always be special to me 🩷
Ahhh the adreanaline and excitement must've been off the roof when the final season dropped! Ahh so cute haha this whole finale is really just super meaningful and groundbreaking! ThT "I remember you" From Hordak is so important as it shows that Hordak has changed In season 3 when Adora asks him how he found her, he barely remembers because he doesn't care... Now he does showing the old hordak is gone And witnout primes influence, there no longer is any danger from the hordak clones either.

Ok, i'm a bit late but here we go! WHAT A JOURNEY!! The finale was rollercoaster of so many emotions, my heart is still beating so fast! Your editing, your reaction, your discussions... were all trully amazing!! It gave me so much joy to go on this jouney with you even though i only started a few months ago! I still miss Etheria and everybody in there till this day, but i know they're a living a great life now. Catra and Adora, Glimmer and Bow, Hordak and Entrapta... everybody! can't believe this journey is over too. after i finished shera for the first time, i was left with a whole and i never got over it after years. this show means so much to me. it's my favourite piece of media ever. the characters mean so much to me too. it's as you said, they all feel so real, you can't help but get attached to them. i love that they all have their deep, meaningful moments, they all have so many layers and a powerful message we can learn from their stories. i definitely agree with your top 5 (as much as i hate shadow weaver, i agree she's an amazingly written character). catra and adora are my precious, literally my biggest obsession . entrapta is definitely my favourite secondary character, she's adorable and relatable. glimmer's arc was so fascinating and made her even more interesting and realistic. plus, she's a badass (they all are tbh). but every single character has a piece of my heart. thank you for bringing us along with you on this journey. your reactions are some of the most genuine i've seen. the crying, screaming, hyperventilating, all so relatable ahahahah. your poor neighbours. maybe you should get them to watch shera, then they'll understand lol. i'm so sad this is over, but i do hope we'll see more shera content from you. i'll never get tired of talking about this show ahah. let's keep wishing for a sequel (or a prequel), maybe. i just need more of shera, i miss it so much!

it really has been a hekkin journey; i had watched this show through well before your reaction series, but your reaction series let me experience it again through someone else's fresh experience. For that i thank you. In the time between the start and finish of your reaction series, a lot has changed for me. I viewed Shadow Weaver as i viewed my own mom at the beginning; the sacrifice on my first watch-through had me openly sobbing because i felt i would never have that kind of catharsis. Now, i'm in regular contact with my mom, and it all feels so surreal. I still cry at Shadow Weaver's death; people say it is pure manipulation, a twisting of the knife, but i see it differently. It's a VERY flawed mother who realizes she did wrong regardless of her intentions. She realizes nothing she could do would change the past, but she did what she could to make the future better. Yes, she was abusive, but that doesn't mean she didn't love them in her own way. Through sitting and having a lot of long conversations with my mom, i realized her childhood was shit as well, and while it doesn't make what she did okay, it does allow me to see her as a person. Not just a shitty parent, but a kid who went through trauma and was doing her best to be a better parent. As adults, we see each other, we understand each other, and have bonded familial love.

Sorry, but not sorry: also my favorite show is She-Ra and the princess of power. Before I started to watching it, I would never have believed that that would be possible (with a title like that, it was unthinkable. Never judge a book by its cover) It's good that you noticed that Shadow Beaver (Weaver) is one of the greatest villians of the show (well the other is Horde Prime). And her death was not a redemption death. I love her death, but because of its complexity. Even after 3 years, I still cry. And yes, the core of that pain is because Catra and Adora, what they were feeling in that moment (complex feelings). Yes, this show is about hope. And the major representation of that hope is Catra. The example of superation. Many people can learn much from her arc. Also my favorite charecter 🐱 Meow Meow War Criminal 🐱. Ohhhh the music!!! In this final episode we could finally hear with all its power the promise theme (the leitmotiv of the whole show)😭😭😭😭 Objectively, I have my reasons to believe that this show cannot live up to other series considered "the best". Well I lack of knowledge about cinematography for be 100% sure about that. But in writing and music this show is at least outstanding. Although its greatest strength (writing around its characters) can be its greatest weakness: if you can't connect with one of its main characters, the show could seem boring or inconsequential. But in my heart, this show is the best ❤❤❤ I think more people should talk about Hordak and his arc. At the beginnig or at the first watch, could seem simple or poorly carried out. Although is more depth and complex than It looks (but I think we needed more minutes in screen). Wrong Hordak complements the arc and the character of Hordak a lot. And this last episode completely clarifies the character: the moment he remembered Adora as a baby. In my first time watching the show I didn't understand much Hordak and his arc. And something that I want to know before watching the last episode was why did Hordak take Adora to the Fright Zone if he thought she was usless and/or inconsequential (ideas that learned from his brother/god/father f*cking Horde Prime), why didn't he abandon her right there where he found her? The ansewer, in the last episode was simple but very deep. Also i liked so much how this show subverted some tropes. In the first season appeared many tropes, but as the series pregressed most were subverted and others were well executed. Saving the whole universe with the power of love, a kiss and gay??? 🤍🤍🤍🤍 Yes!!! Así se hace!! (This is how it is done!!) To much bla bla . (this comentary is huge). Thanks, I mean It 🤍.

It was very tight, hit most of the notes, it's hard to find a flaw with it. And your reaction of not wanting it to end and wanting more is pretty typical. My favourite scene: probably when Entrapta told Hordak that imperfections are beautiful for the first time My fav, ep: obviously Huntara ep Ma fav character: Hordak, reason: He is incredibly well written character and the most interesting thing is, that it is hard to notice. I often think of him as someone that Cratra might turn into. If you think about it, before he was abused by Horde Prime, just like Shadow Weaver and Catra, he was thrown away and used, like Catra and he was cold and cruel, because he thought being seen as something like that will give him what he wants. Just like Catra, he changed because of one thing and that is love. But his love is a total opposite of him and I love that, Entrapta is like a happy sunny (representation of autism) beautiful girl and he's a cold, known and the cruelest villain who understands her the most, which is interesting. Hordak is a character you would never expect to have a story or a love, he looked at first, like a casual villain that dies after two seasons. By writing his story, giving him just the most unique queen, this ship (couple) quickly became my favourite of all time.

Even though the shows may be interesting, the characters are not that big of a fun for me then. And I say this after having already watched the reaction portion of the video (which was beautifully, beautifully edited as always… christ, it must’ve taken so long. I mean, that editing from 18:11 to 18:25 alone must have taken so, so much of your time! I cannot take that for granted), with utter sincerity and simply vibrating with excitement; you gift us with this amazing reaction video, and spoil us by adding another twenty friggin minutes of your fantastic analysis. Oooh, dear. Let me take a moment to compose myself first… Here’re two things I wanna say in advance : 1.That reaction at 22:30? Me. That’s just me. My exact reaction right there. Brimming with so much happiness and hope, but also desperate for more. I just couldn’t let go of these characters which I have come to care for and love so much. I was like, “I’m so, *so* happy for you guys(the characters)! You did it! And you deserve this!” and at the same time, “but please, don’t leave me, please? *Especially after this beautiful episode*!” I was so saddened by the fact that there would be no more Shera episodes to wait for. 2.Catharsis! I think it was ND (but someone correct me if not) that SW’s sacrifice was her last bit of manipulation of Catra and Adora. One last guilt trip. “What is going to happen to you?” The look on Catra’s face. She already knows the answer. She already knows Adora’s willing to do it too. She looks so tired. But, of course, she’s not going to run this time either. Man this show was something else. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t perfect, but man… it was always unapologetically itself and I love it. Really looking forward to Owl House and Hazbin reactions.
Ironic you say 3am, bc here I go at 3am to binge and catch up on your reactions. lol I’m so glad you enjoyed this beautiful show. To see your love of Catra and just how much you defend her is my favorite thing because you get it! Catra was such a tragic character for so long so seeing her finally get something she wants (adora). The themes in this show is just so beautifully done. And I really appreciate how much you saw, you pointed out things to me that completely changed how I saw certain moments like the entire taking control episode, I liked it but I truly didn’t see all the details they put into Catra during that episode that really stay with her throughout. Once you pointed them out, I really saw just how affected she was by Prime and SW. It also made me take into Adora’s subtle signs too and whoooo that hurt just as much. Thanks for your commentary as always. A few things I noticed: -In the ep where Adora glitches in the fight w Scorpio ; it doesn’t start happening until after Perfuma says that part about Prime erasing her and Scorpio’s friendship and I think in that moment Adora remembered Catra in that fight sequence in Save the Cat. I think it scared her bc of what happened with Catra and it made her lose focus on the fight. I think it’s why SW started interrupting them more bc she saw the affect worrying about Catra had on Adora/She-Ra. -when Adora is talking to Bow and Glimmer right after the Catra hologram scene, after she says be careful about this place, Adora glitches again after seeing (and worrying about ) Catra. before leaving them, to go to the heart, Adora said “I’m losing her…” The her she was talking about was Catra. It’s why I think she left them there also. She was afraid to lose them too so she left before they could get hurt. -DT even has an Arc! DT was always about the winning side, money, it being fun. That last scene they are seen pushing the clones over. DT actually chose a side and it was the “losing”side. SW. The absolute worse but I did find it interesting that The Spell of Obtainment when she tried the first time required her and Micah to do it and without him it went badly. Under HP’s control, Micah uses it and does so by himself. He has the same markings as Shadow weaver did once she was consumed by the spell. But unlike SW, he is actually even more powered up. It makes Micah’ s natural magic darker. His is a dark purple base with black outline, and the more he uses it the darker it becomes. Another thing I noticed also is that Glimmer’s magic also became darker the more she worked with SW. it’s starts with a pretty distinct pink/light purple and then gets more and more darker until it’s almost purple. It starts to lighten again in s5 and by the time we get to the fight between Amish and Glimmer you can tell it’s still a medium purple and the more she relied on the magic she got from Angella (teleportation and her sparkle fists, which is amazing bc that’s literally what saved them) her magic started to lighten again until at last she hits Micah with a full kamehameha of bright pink sparkle. Glimmer back to herself who she was meant to be. In SW’s case, when the Obtainment spell went sideways she became a parasite leeching magic from other things, it’s why she was so attached to the black garnet and when she separated she started to die. Adora healed her so she wasn’t a parasite anymore but she hadn’t used anything close to natural magic (besides to escape) since. It’s why she had the potions and stuff. Her natural abilities were weakened by her dark magic. Whatever little bit she did have was used to teleport her and Catra to the heart. When SW is taking Adora to the heart, her natural magic kicks back in (her hair starts to float). And as she holds her hands out for more they hear Catra crying out and Adora immediately turns back around for Catra. I think that moment when we see her face set, as she is standing there able to have more power than she ever imagined, is the moment she finally chooses Catra. She RUNS back, ahead of Adora and immediately starts fighting. And you can see in her magic it’s gone from its pure blackness to a black center with a dark purple outline. When she throws the force field in place to stop them from coming after her, her magic is a dark purple but it’s definitely closer to what her magic looked like when she was still light spinner. As traumatizing as it was for Catra I think that was SW’s way of trying to do one good thing for Catra. And it was genuine in her own way. I hate this character but my goodness was she written so compellingly good. I’m gonna go watch a rewatch of the show now with all your commentary and moments in mind. I can imagine I’d see even more now.

Loved seeing your journey with this amazing show. The ending really stings because of how fast it comes and goes and you don't get to experience it for the first time twice. I'm just thankful I was around at the same time as such a masterpiece. If we get more She-Ra content at some point, I will be there on opening night.
It was so lovely rewatching She-ra with you! Honestly, I got unwillingly dragged into some fan discourse about this show, which sort of blinded me to just how much I LOVE it more than any other show I think ever? So it was really really lovely to just sit and watch you appreciate and enjoy all the things that I appreciated and enjoyed during my first watch, and it relit a lot of my love for those moments and characters as well. This show really is a masterclass in... everything, lol. The characters are all so wonderful (my favorite is Scorpia, but Adora is ME all the way down) or at the very least well written (hard agree about Shadow Weaver being the best villain ever lol). The setting is so fun and quirky. The jokes are all really fun and I value the topics that the show dove into. It was fun seeing you pick up on stuff I didn't and miss stuff I picked up on. Like how you shipped entrapdak basically from the get go while I didn't realize they were a potential pairing until I saw people online talking about them, and it took you until season 5 to pick up on the glimbow cues that I had been ravenously following since episode 1 of season 1 XD. I loved seeing you lose your mind over every single one of Catra's bad decisions, while only loving her more for them, it was super relatable and I remember screaming at my tv over the exact same sort of stuff. I think your videos are really well edited and it makes watching you react more fun than most reaction videos I've seen floating around. I found you during a nimona binge and I'm super glad I followed you over here to she-ra. And it looks like I came in at the perfect time, since you only recently finished this show! Talk about lucky. The Star Wars parallels - yes "love is a path to the dark side" vs "love is a path to the light side" And yeah, this show has so many great characters - Entrapta, Double Trouble, Adora - but Catra's just so deep and fantastic. I feel like anyone who hates her is forced to deny that she changes as a person. And her change is the whole point of the show. I've read writing blurbs that describe characters as 'deeply human,' and I was like 'ok so what, does that mean? they're a-holes?' Sort of, and yes, but ultimately no, and ...I'd say Catra is 'deeply human'
You asked for feelings on Hordak's arc; and, that touches on one of my favorite things about season 5. So, here we go. Without drawing a huge amount of attention to it, season 5 does a pretty complex deconstruction of at lot of common ideas around redemption arcs; and, it does this by giving us three examples to examine. In your analysis section, you state outright that Shadow Weaver is not redeemed (a point I fully agree on). But, structurally, Shadow Weaver's end fits pretty perfectly into the quite common trope of redemption by heroic sacrifice - and, it definitely is a heroic act - yet, she still does it in a way that is self-centered and traumatizing, making the point that doing _a_ good thing - even so final a one - is not enough for redemption. On the other end, we have Catra. In Corridors, we see her try the redemption by heroic sacrifice path, only she doesn't die. And, for the rest of the season, her arc has a lot to do with the internal work needed to actually _live_ with making the kind of change needed to be redeemed. Going out on one grand heroic act is, in some sense, easier than living as a better person. That said, it would be unfair to considered Catra a fully redeemed character without doing restitution for the harm she's caused in her role as second in command of the Horde. And, that brings us to Hordak. On the one hand, he's gotten is Darth Vader moment of defying Horde Prime; and, we've seen the way that human connection with Entrapta has changed some of his views in a quite fundamental way. But, I think the show leaves it as an open question what that means for him going forward. He has the opportunity to work towards redemption through restitution for his own crimes against Etheria and repair of a universe broken by Horde Prime; but, it's not guaranteed that he will choose to do that. I'd go so far as to say that the availability of that choice is, itself, the most important point about where Hordak's arc is left. So, to answer Mermista's question, "So, are we all just okay with this?" I'd say, no. It's all about what Hordak chooses to do with the opportunity to take a better path - the very thing that Shadow Weaver has cut off taking the path of death.
Great comment about the different paths of the idea of redemption the show tackled! Really agree about Hordak, the restitution path makes the most sense for him and Entrapta by his side will only bring the best side of him honestly. I like that it's open ended yet it does leave that realisting question among the Rebellion about whether or not it's right for Hordak to be there in Etheria. Love love this show so much!

My mom cried at glimmers scene with her dad and i have to admit that Shadow Weaver's death did make me cry a bit. Between She-ra, AtLA, The Clone Wars, and Bojack Horseman, I genuinely can't even rank them. All four are such amazing shows in their own rights. 😭 The Owl House would definitely have been on the same list, if they'd gotten a full third season. Even so, its a close fifth. My favourite scene in the whole show is at the very end, when we see Hordak's flashback to the day he found Adora. I don't know why that moment hits me so hard, but just something about it triggers me. 😔
Great choices of top shows! Oh yeah, can't wait to fully cover The Owl House in the channel and give my full thoughts, definitely deserves a ton or praise despite what it had going against. Yesss that scene is so well done! There's something about the pauses and silence in that scene and then him saying "I remember" that adds to the emotional power of the scene! Overall great finale even if the ending was a bit rushed. Wish we had gotten more time to see the celebrations, though the one thing that kinda irked me was Bow and Glimmer didn't get to lock lips. I mean yeah he gave her a forehead peck but really feel they deserved to have a genuine kiss since they were one of the earliest ships in the show. I get they wanna represent the LGBTQ community but do they have something against heterosexual ships?
Really wish that whole reunion of characters was at least like 10min long! Love it but yeah, wish it was a bit longer. Mmmm I disagree? haha this is an unapologetically queer show, and we don't get to see this representation often in animation, much less being the emotional core of the story. The forehead kiss is quite meaningful and powerful, shows how tender their love really is. Yeah, an actual kiss would've been fine, but as a person that really felt identified with how Bow and Glimmer came to be together, the forehead kiss was pretty much perfect, it still feels intimate and emotionally satisfying in their journey as friends-turned-couple
The forehead kiss is also an oblique reference to many shows that have a queer couple, but who then refuse to show that queer couple being intimate. The most these shows will go for is a chaste ‘forehead kiss’ to avoid controversy. She-Ra having the hetero couple do the ‘forehead kiss’ thing is an intentional reversal of this trope, and your comment shows how frustrating it can be.
I have to say that I am satisfied. Mostly. Yes I got the kiss I wanted so I won’t riot, and that did cure most of the emotional damage I gained through this show. HOWEVER this show as fantastic as it is, is NOT perfect. There are quite a few sins this show has committed that I will now list. Feel free to disagree. I am honestly curious to how many people agree with me. Issue 1: How dare they wait until the last season to show us so much of Netossa and Spinnerella. I know this show didn’t have a lot of episodes and they are background characters, but my gosh did I fall in love with them to the point I want a spin off of the two, with the first episode starts with Spinrella telling Netossa, she can no longer use the excuse ‘I saved you from a mind controlling evil overlord’ to get out of doing chores. I just felling in love with that line because it felt so relatable. Issue 2: They don’t save Angella. I am a big fan of happily ever after where everyone gets saved, and I know that doesn’t happen in real life, but this isn’t real life now is it. Still I can respect the fact they did have real lasting consequences that can’t be undone. Doesn’t mean I have to like it. Issue 3: why can’t they show Adora’s birth family. I mean I do understand, for those who don’t Adora is the sister of He-man, a character I believe is owned by a different company, so not a lot the show can do there. Still I would have been nice to have a scene or something about them. You know what the biggest issue I have with this show is just being to short. Which leads me to my other issue. More world building. I am of the opinion that Shadow Weaver did love the girls, but her own past made her incapable of expressing it in a healthy way. I mean you can arguably state that Shadow Weavers treatment of Catra was an extreme, toxic form of tough love. Not excusing her, just saying that I don’t believe she was a one dimensional evil character. So yes I want more of Shadow Weavers backstory, more of Mara’s story, more of Scorpia, like is she the last of her race or do we not see any others. And what about Catra’s past, how did she end up in the horde. So yeah my second biggest problem with this show is just wanting more, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Oh well this is why fanfiction exists. Now this are less of issues and more just personal things I would like to see, however there is one sin above all else that this show has made, that borders on unforgivable in my opinion. I know it wouldn’t have worked. It could no longer work, it might have interrupted the flow of the story, but I will never forgive this show for not showing us an interaction between Catra and drunk Adora. Sorry for the long post.
Those are really fair criticisms! I feel like issue 1 has to do with ND Stevenson not being very sure Netflix would embrace the queer nature of the show from the very beginning and issue 3 is much more about copyright so it is a bit tricky. If there's a movie or season 6 somehow, it could be fun and exciting to explore that though! And I would've loved soooo so much an interaction between Drunk Adora and Catra! But what if drunk Adora actually confessed her feelings in that state to Catra? Would've been hilarious but could've cut the show shorter lmao 😂❤️ thank you for the comment though! If Catra begged Adora to stay with her and Adora understandably told her to leave her alone and Catra still chose to be good, I would be satisfied. It would have been a powerful gesture if Catra did the right thing, atoned for her sins, despite not being forgiven and not being with the one she loves. Catra could have learned to exist on her own, develop interests and a life outside of Adora. Learn to accept herself and eventually come to terms with her childhood abuse. If Adora had responded “I don’t feel the same way” to Catra’s *I love you. I always have*, would Catra respect Adora’s boundaries and move on? Would she get angry, yell at Adora and push her to the ground? I think Catra would do the second one. Catra deserves new friends and dates someone else. Everything she did was motivated by her obsession to beat Adora, and make her pay for leaving her. I want these two to be happy, but too much hurt has been dealt. When they kissed and confessed to each other, it didn't give me a happy feeling.
therapy can be a thing that comes after all of this lol you know?? every single one of these characters probably needs that. healing isn't a immediate thing, and literally no one has implied that them kissing and admitting their feelings automatically makes up for and removes everything that's happened from their minds. they'll probably have trauma forever, but them kissing and confessing gives me a happy feeling because now they can start on that road to recovery and working things out, which they never would've been able to really do while they were in the horde, or while they were even fighting horde prime.

it really has been a hekkin journey; i had watched this show through well before your reaction series, but your reaction series let me experience it again through someone else's fresh experience. For that i thank you. In the time between the start and finish of your reaction series, a lot has changed for me. I viewed Shadow Weaver as i viewed my own mom at the beginning; the sacrifice on my first watch-through had me openly sobbing because i felt i would never have that kind of catharsis. Now, i'm in regular contact with my mom, and it all feels so surreal. I still cry at Shadow Weaver's death; people say it is pure manipulation, a twisting of the knife, but i see it differently. It's a VERY flawed mother who realizes she did wrong regardless of her intentions. She realizes nothing she could do would change the past, but she did what she could to make the future better. Yes, she was abusive, but that doesn't mean she didn't love them in her own way. Through sitting and having a lot of long conversations with my mom, i realized her childhood was shit as well, and while it doesn't make what she did okay, it does allow me to see her as a person. Not just a shitty parent, but a kid who went through trauma and was doing her best to be a better parent. As adults, we see each other, we understand each other, and have bonded familial love.

The writers really said “let’s save the world with the power of gay.” Catra's last line "of course I'm going with you dummy" makes me emotional every single time, because in episode 2, when Adora asked her to come with her and Catra took that as a betrayal, but by the end it's a no-brainer that of course she would go with her.
And it DELIVERED! Big time, so emotionally powerful and narratively satisfying, and so groundbreaking for the LGBTQIA+ community. Love it love it. And yes, that's such a cute final Catra line, didn't think about it that way until you mentioned it hehe ugh, I love this show so much!
that glimmer vs. micah fight was BRUTAL. glimmer is so strong, both in power and in spirit. that whole monologue made me cry. she has come SO FAR and has grown so much. our queen 💜

My thoughts on Hordak's arc:
I don't believe in punishment. I believe in rehabilitation and restitution. I think we can safely infer that Hordak has been rehabilitated and will not create any more armies intended to conquer Etheria. As for restitution? Well, that's a big debt to have to pay down, and I don't know that he ever could, but I like to think he'll try.
I've read somwhere, that the show runners said that he was tasked with the cleanup of beast island. Kind of a community service thing. Oh, and also Entrapta willingly joins him.
Great way of phrasing this. Trying when it would be easier not to is what's really important in my eyes.
You basically put my thoughts into words. This goes for Catra too. I think she did (and is going to continue to) pay her dues by helping the rebellion.

I'm glad that Adora and Catra were able to save the universe by admitting their feelings for each other as well as kissing each other and being a couple. I'm also glad that the series had an open-ended ending with the best friend squad on a new adventure. Maybe it could lead to Adora finding her family, particularly her twin brother Adam, aka He-man. I even hope that it could potentially lead to Angella being rescued from between dimensions.
That would be an incredible concept for a continuation, I thought about that actually with including Skeletor or something similar. And saving Angella would be such a beautiful full circle if done correctly 🙌

shadow weaver's sacrificing herself was so confusing to me and yet it made complete sense. i still don't fully get her reasoning, but i guess after that confrontation with adora and then with catra, SW realised that she had no influence over them anymore. she had completely failed in everything in her life, at this point. so really all she could do now was help the same two girls she abused their whole life in their attempt to save the universe. and the only way she can do that is by sacrificing herself for them. i think her motivation is still inherently selfish, better to die doing one good thing than to confront all the damage she's caused. i mean, she doesn't even apologise, she actually says "you're welcome". but she acknowledges catra's strength and resilience. she acknowledges she caused some irreparable damage, so it's "too late for her". i guess in her own twisted way she did feel affection for them, but for SW "love" actually means ownership and control over someone. an ideology catra and adora had inherited at the beginning, but they have now learned to let go. catra and adora now know what real love actually means.
Your right because SW was always horrible to everyone but worst to Catra and Adora. like she abused them in two different ways but she also taught them stuff like don't trust everyone don't do stuff for power or to help everyone because you can't have all the power you can't save everyone. She hurt Catra in a worst way than Adora but she still hurt them both and her sacrificing herself is just another way of abuse as well SW never changed like she also abused Glimmer and made her not trust her friends because SW sucks I'm so glad she died.
the series finale of she-ra really was such a masterpiece, like, i must stress the fact that i pretty much never remember watching things for the first time, idk why, it all just kinda fades into a general impression of "i liked it" or "i didn't" but this finale, man. i remember it so clearly. i remember rushing to watch s5 the day it dropped, and i remember SOBBING my way through the last half of this episode. i cried so hard it took me twenty minutes after it ended to calm down even a little. it was so beautiful and so important. even four years later it's still rare that queer love is this front and centre in a story. they didn't just acknowledge it and move on, they literally made it the beating heart of the show, and for that she-ra will always be special to me 🩷
Ahhh the adreanaline and excitement must've been off the roof when the final season dropped! Ahh so cute haha this whole finale is really just super meaningful and groundbreaking! Very true, the queer love being center here is some of the best things I've ever experienced watching a show. This show and finale will live forever ✨❤️

WHAT A JOURNEY!! The finale was rollercoaster of so many emotions, my heart is still beating so fast! Your editing, your reaction, your discussions... were all trully amazing!! It gave me so much joy to go on this jouney with you even though i only started a few months ago! I still miss Etheria and everybody in there till this day, but i know they're a living a great life now. Catra and Adora, Glimmer and Bow, Hordak and Entrapta... everybody!

can't believe this journey is over too. after i finished shera for the first time, i was left with a whole and i never got over it after years. this show means so much to me. it's my favourite piece of media ever. the characters mean so much to me too. it's as you said, they all feel so real, you can't help but get attached to them. i love that they all have their deep, meaningful moments, they all have so many layers and a powerful message we can learn from their stories.
i definitely agree with your top 5 (as much as i hate shadow weaver, i agree she's an amazingly written character). catra and adora are my precious, literally my biggest obsession . entrapta is definitely my favourite secondary character, she's adorable and relatable. glimmer's arc was so fascinating and made her even more interesting and realistic. plus, she's a badass (they all are tbh). but every single character has a piece of my heart.

it really has been a hekkin journey; i had watched this show through well before your reaction series, but your reaction series let me experience it again through someone else's fresh experience. For that i thank you.
In the time between the start and finish of your reaction series, a lot has changed for me. I viewed Shadow Weaver as i viewed my own mom at the beginning; the sacrifice on my first watch-through had me openly sobbing because i felt i would never have that kind of catharsis. Now, i'm in regular contact with my mom, and it all feels so surreal.
I still cry at Shadow Weaver's death; people say it is pure manipulation, a twisting of the knife, but i see it differently. It's a VERY flawed mother who realizes she did wrong regardless of her intentions. She realizes nothing she could do would change the past, but she did what she could to make the future better. Yes, she was abusive, but that doesn't mean she didn't love them in her own way. Through sitting and having a lot of long conversations with my mom, i realized her childhood was shit as well, and while it doesn't make what she did okay, it does allow me to see her as a person. Not just a shitty parent, but a kid who went through trauma and was doing her best to be a better parent. As adults, we see each other, we understand each other, and have bonded familial love.

It's good that you noticed that Shadow Beaver (Weaver) is one of the greatest villians of the show (well the other is Horde Prime). And her death was not a redemption death. I love her death, but because of its complexity. Even after 3 years, I still cry. And yes, the core of that pain is because Catra and Adora, what they were feeling in that moment (complex feelings).
Yes, this show is about hope. And the major representation of that hope is Catra. The example of superation. Many people can learn much from her arc. Also my favorite charecter 🐱 Meow Meow War Criminal 🐱.

Objectively, I have my reasons to believe that this show cannot live up to other series considered "the best". Well I lack of knowledge about cinematography for be 100% sure about that. But in writing and music this show is at least outstanding. Although its greatest strength (writing around its characters) can be its greatest weakness: if you can't connect with one of its main characters, the show could seem boring or inconsequential. But in my heart, this show is the best ❤❤❤
I think more people should talk about Hordak and his arc. At the beginnig or at the first watch, could seem simple or poorly carried out. Although is more depth and complex than It looks (but I think we needed more minutes in screen). Wrong Hordak complements the arc and the character of Hordak a lot. And this last episode completely clarifies the character: the moment he remembered Adora as a baby. In my first time watching the show I didn't understand much Hordak and his arc. And something that I want to know before watching the last episode was why did Hordak take Adora to the Fright Zone if he thought she was usless and/or inconsequential (ideas that learned from his brother/god/father f*cking Horde Prime), why didn't he abandon her right there where he found her? The ansewer, in the last episode was simple but very deep.
Also i liked so much how this show subverted some tropes. In the first season appeared many tropes, but as the series pregressed most were subverted and others were well executed. Saving the whole universe with the power of love, a kiss and gay??? 🤍🤍🤍🤍 Yes!!! Así se hace!! (This is how it is done!!)

Ma fav character: Hordak, reason: He is incredibly well written character and the most interesting thing is, that it is hard to notice. I often think of him as someone that Cratra might turn into. If you think about it, before he was abused by Horde Prime, just like Shadow Weaver and Catra, he was thrown away and used, like Catra and he was cold and cruel, because he thought being seen as something like that will give him what he wants. Just like Catra, he changed because of one thing and that is love. But his love is a total opposite of him and I love that, Entrapta is like a happy sunny (representation of autism) beautiful girl and he's a cold, known and the cruelest villain who understands her the most, which is interesting. Hordak is a character you would never expect to have a story or a love, he looked at first, like a casual villain that dies after two seasons. By writing his story, giving him just the most unique queen, this ship (couple) quickly became my favourite of all time.
I love your devotion to Entrapdak one away or another! Their chemistry and character development definitely added a certain uniqueness to the show ❤️

Even though the shows may be interesting, the characters are not that big of a fun for me then. So I love when I find something new✨ And Entrapdak was such a suprise I fell in love with their character writing. (ofc other she-ra characters writing as well, like psychology of Catra or funny irony of Wrong Hordak...)

1.That reaction at 22:30? Me. That’s just me. My exact reaction right there. Brimming with so much happiness and hope, but also desperate for more. I just couldn’t let go of these characters which I have come to care for and love so much. I was like, “I’m so, *so* happy for you guys(the characters)! You did it! And you deserve this!” and at the same time, “but please, don’t leave me, please? *Especially after this beautiful episode*!” I was so saddened by the fact that there would be no more Shera episodes to wait for.

“What is going to happen to you?” The look on Catra’s face. She already knows the answer. She already knows Adora’s willing to do it too. She looks so tired. But, of course, she’s not going to run this time either.
Man this show was something else. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t perfect, but man… it was always unapologetically itself and I love it.

Ironic you say 3am, bc here I go at 3am to binge and catch up on your reactions. lol I’m so glad you enjoyed this beautiful show. To see your love of Catra and just how much you defend her is my favorite thing because you get it! Catra was such a tragic character for so long so seeing her finally get something she wants (adora). The themes in this show is just so beautifully done. And I really appreciate how much you saw, you pointed out things to me that completely changed how I saw certain moments like the entire taking control episode, I liked it but I truly didn’t see all the details they put into Catra during that episode that really stay with her throughout. Once you pointed them out, I really saw just how affected she was by Prime and SW. It also made me take into Adora’s subtle signs too and whoooo that hurt just as much. Thanks for your commentary as always.
A few things I noticed:
-In the ep where Adora glitches in the fight w Scorpio ; it doesn’t start happening until after Perfuma says that part about Prime erasing her and Scorpio’s friendship and I think in that moment Adora remembered Catra in that fight sequence in Save the Cat. I think it scared her bc of what happened with Catra and it made her lose focus on the fight. I think it’s why SW started interrupting them more bc she saw the affect worrying about Catra had on Adora/She-Ra.
-when Adora is talking to Bow and Glimmer right after the Catra hologram scene, after she says be careful about this place, Adora glitches again after seeing (and worrying about ) Catra. before leaving them, to go to the heart, Adora said “I’m losing her…” The her she was talking about was Catra. It’s why I think she left them there also. She was afraid to lose them too so she left before they could get hurt.
-DT even has an Arc! DT was always about the winning side, money, it being fun. That last scene they are seen pushing the clones over. DT actually chose a side and it was the “losing”side.
SW. The absolute worse but I did find it interesting that The Spell of Obtainment when she tried the first time required her and Micah to do it and without him it went badly. Under HP’s control, Micah uses it and does so by himself. He has the same markings as Shadow weaver did once she was consumed by the spell. But unlike SW, he is actually even more powered up. It makes Micah’ s natural magic darker. His is a dark purple base with black outline, and the more he uses it the darker it becomes. Another thing I noticed also is that Glimmer’s magic also became darker the more she worked with SW. it’s starts with a pretty distinct pink/light purple and then gets more and more darker until it’s almost purple. It starts to lighten again in s5 and by the time we get to the fight between Amish and Glimmer you can tell it’s still a medium purple and the more she relied on the magic she got from Angella (teleportation and her sparkle fists, which is amazing bc that’s literally what saved them) her magic started to lighten again until at last she hits Micah with a full kamehameha of bright pink sparkle. Glimmer back to herself who she was meant to be. In SW’s case, when the Obtainment spell went sideways she became a parasite leeching magic from other things, it’s why she was so attached to the black garnet and when she separated she started to die. Adora healed her so she wasn’t a parasite anymore but she hadn’t used anything close to natural magic (besides to escape) since. It’s why she had the potions and stuff. Her natural abilities were weakened by her dark magic. Whatever little bit she did have was used to teleport her and Catra to the heart. When SW is taking Adora to the heart, her natural magic kicks back in (her hair starts to float). And as she holds her hands out for more they hear Catra crying out and Adora immediately turns back around for Catra. I think that moment when we see her face set, as she is standing there able to have more power than she ever imagined, is the moment she finally chooses Catra. She RUNS back, ahead of Adora and immediately starts fighting. And you can see in her magic it’s gone from its pure blackness to a black center with a dark purple outline. When she throws the force field in place to stop them from coming after her, her magic is a dark purple but it’s definitely closer to what her magic looked like when she was still light spinner. As traumatizing as it was for Catra I think that was SW’s way of trying to do one good thing for Catra. And it was genuine in her own way. I hate this character but my goodness was she written so compellingly good.

Loved seeing your journey with this amazing show. The ending really stings because of how fast it comes and goes and you don't get to experience it for the first time twice. I'm just thankful I was around at the same time as such a masterpiece. If we get more She-Ra content at some point, I will be there on opening night.
It was so lovely rewatching She-ra with you! Honestly, I got unwillingly dragged into some fan discourse about this show, which sort of blinded me to just how much I LOVE it more than any other show I think ever? So it was really really lovely to just sit and watch you appreciate and enjoy all the things that I appreciated and enjoyed during my first watch, and it relit a lot of my love for those moments and characters as well. This show really is a masterclass in... everything, lol. The characters are all so wonderful (my favorite is Scorpia, but Adora is ME all the way down) or at the very least well written (hard agree about Shadow Weaver being the best villain ever lol). The setting is so fun and quirky. The jokes are all really fun and I value the topics that the show dove into. It was fun seeing you pick up on stuff I didn't and miss stuff I picked up on. Like how you shipped entrapdak basically from the get go while I didn't realize they were a potential pairing until I saw people online talking about them, and it took you until season 5 to pick up on the glimbow cues that I had been ravenously following since episode 1 of season 1 XD. I loved seeing you lose your mind over every single one of Catra's bad decisions, while only loving her more for them, it was super relatable and I remember screaming at my tv over the exact same sort of stuff. I think your videos are really well edited and it makes watching you react more fun than most reaction videos I've seen floating around. I found you during a nimona binge and I'm super glad I followed you over here to she-ra. And it looks like I came in at the perfect time, since you only recently finished this show! Talk about lucky. Long live catradora indeed!!!!

"love is a path to the dark side" vs "love is a path to the light side"
And yeah, this show has so many great characters - Entrapta, Double Trouble, Adora - but Catra's just so deep and fantastic. I feel like anyone who hates her is forced to deny that she changes as a person. And her change is the whole point of the show.
I've read writing blurbs that describe characters as 'deeply human,' and I was like 'ok so what, does that mean? they're a-holes?'
Sort of, and yes, but ultimately no, and ...I'd say Catra is 'deeply human'
Catra truly is the magnum opus of this show in my mind, so complex and tragic and hopeful and beautiful all at once ❤️
You asked for feelings on Hordak's arc; and, that touches on one of my favorite things about season 5. So, here we go.
Without drawing a huge amount of attention to it, season 5 does a pretty complex deconstruction of at lot of common ideas around redemption arcs; and, it does this by giving us three examples to examine. In your analysis section, you state outright that Shadow Weaver is not redeemed (a point I fully agree on). But, structurally, Shadow Weaver's end fits pretty perfectly into the quite common trope of redemption by heroic sacrifice - and, it definitely is a heroic act - yet, she still does it in a way that is self-centered and traumatizing, making the point that doing _a_ good thing - even so final a one - is not enough for redemption.
On the other end, we have Catra. In Corridors, we see her try the redemption by heroic sacrifice path, only she doesn't die. And, for the rest of the season, her arc has a lot to do with the internal work needed to actually _live_ with making the kind of change needed to be redeemed. Going out on one grand heroic act is, in some sense, easier than living as a better person. That said, it would be unfair to considered Catra a fully redeemed character without doing restitution for the harm she's caused in her role as second in command of the Horde.
And, that brings us to Hordak. On the one hand, he's gotten is Darth Vader moment of defying Horde Prime; and, we've seen the way that human connection with Entrapta has changed some of his views in a quite fundamental way. But, I think the show leaves it as an open question what that means for him going forward. He has the opportunity to work towards redemption through restitution for his own crimes against Etheria and repair of a universe broken by Horde Prime; but, it's not guaranteed that he will choose to do that. I'd go so far as to say that the availability of that choice is, itself, the most important point about where Hordak's arc is left. So, to answer Mermista's question, "So, are we all just okay with this?" I'd say, no. It's all about what Hordak chooses to do with the opportunity to take a better path - the very thing that Shadow Weaver has cut off taking the path of death.
Great comment about the different paths of the idea of redemption the show tackled! Really agree about Hordak, the restitution path makes the most sense for him and Entrapta by his side will only bring the best side of him honestly. I like that it's open ended yet it does leave that realisting question among the Rebellion about whether or not it's right for Hordak to be there in Etheria. Love love this show so much!

*God this series was amazing,* this is a top top tier show up there along with avatar. My mom cried at glimmers scene with her dad and i have to admit that Shadow Weaver's death did make me cry a bit. I'm sorry I've been less attentive to the series and the channel recently, I've been doing more work in video editing and art work the last couple of months hopefully in preparation for my RUclips channel I'll start soon, I should get back into this spectacular and amazing content again. Between She-ra, AtLA, The Clone Wars, and Bojack Horseman, I genuinely can't even rank them. All four are such amazing shows in their own rights. 😭 The Owl House would definitely have been on the same list, if they'd gotten a full third season. Even so, its a close fifth.
My favourite scene in the whole show is at the very end, when we see Hordak's flashback to the day he found Adora. I don't know why that moment hits me so hard, but just something about it triggers me. 😔

Overall great finale even if the ending was a bit rushed. Wish we had gotten more time to see the celebrations, though the one thing that kinda irked me was Bow and Glimmer didn't get to lock lips. I mean yeah he gave her a forehead peck but really feel they deserved to have a genuine kiss since they were one of the earliest ships in the show. I get they wanna represent the LGBTQ community but do they have something against heterosexual ships?
Really wish that whole reunion of characters was at least like 10min long! Love it but yeah, wish it was a bit longer. Mmmm I disagree? haha this is an unapologetically queer show, and we don't get to see this representation often in animation, much less being the emotional core of the story. The forehead kiss is quite meaningful and powerful, shows how tender their love really is. Yeah, an actual kiss would've been fine, but as a person that really felt identified with how Bow and Glimmer came to be together, the forehead kiss was pretty much perfect, it still feels intimate and emotionally satisfying in their journey as friends-turned-couple
The forehead kiss is also an oblique reference to many shows that have a queer couple, but who then refuse to show that queer couple being intimate. The most these shows will go for is a chaste ‘forehead kiss’ to avoid controversy. She-Ra having the hetero couple do the ‘forehead kiss’ thing is an intentional reversal of this trope, and your comment shows how frustrating it can be.

I have to say that I am satisfied. Mostly. Yes I got the kiss I wanted so I won’t riot, and that did cure most of the emotional damage I gained through this show. HOWEVER this show as fantastic as it is, is NOT perfect. There are quite a few sins this show has committed that I will now list. Feel free to disagree. I am honestly curious to how many people agree with me.
Issue 1: How dare they wait until the last season to show us so much of Netossa and Spinnerella. I know this show didn’t have a lot of episodes and they are background characters, but my gosh did I fall in love with them to the point I want a spin off of the two, with the first episode starts with Spinrella telling Netossa, she can no longer use the excuse ‘I saved you from a mind controlling evil overlord’ to get out of doing chores. I just felling in love with that line because it felt so relatable.
Issue 2: They don’t save Angella. I am a big fan of happily ever after where everyone gets saved, and I know that doesn’t happen in real life, but this isn’t real life now is it. Still I can respect the fact they did have real lasting consequences that can’t be undone. Doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Issue 3: why can’t they show Adora’s birth family. I mean I do understand, for those who don’t Adora is the sister of He-man, a character I believe is owned by a different company, so not a lot the show can do there. Still I would have been nice to have a scene or something about them. You know what the biggest issue I have with this show is just being to short. Which leads me to my other issue.
More world building. I am of the opinion that Shadow Weaver did love the girls, but her own past made her incapable of expressing it in a healthy way. I mean you can arguably state that Shadow Weavers treatment of Catra was an extreme, toxic form of tough love. Not excusing her, just saying that I don’t believe she was a one dimensional evil character. So yes I want more of Shadow Weavers backstory, more of Mara’s story, more of Scorpia, like is she the last of her race or do we not see any others. And what about Catra’s past, how did she end up in the horde. So yeah my second biggest problem with this show is just wanting more, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Oh well this is why fanfiction exists.
Now this are less of issues and more just personal things I would like to see, however there is one sin above all else that this show has made, that borders on unforgivable in my opinion. I know it wouldn’t have worked. It could no longer work, it might have interrupted the flow of the story, but I will never forgive this show for not showing us an interaction between Catra and drunk Adora. Sorry for the long post.
Those are really fair criticisms! I feel like issue 1 has to do with ND Stevenson not being very sure Netflix would embrace the queer nature of the show from the very beginning and issue 3 is much more about copyright so it is a bit tricky. If there's a movie or season 6 somehow, it could be fun and exciting to explore that though!
And I would've loved soooo so much an interaction between Drunk Adora and Catra! But what if drunk Adora actually confessed her feelings in that state to Catra? Would've been hilarious but could've cut the show shorter lmao 😂❤️ thank you for the comment though! Really appreciate it 🙌

If Catra begged Adora to stay with her and Adora understandably told her to leave her alone and Catra still chose to be good, I would be satisfied. It would have been a powerful gesture if Catra did the right thing, atoned for her sins, despite not being forgiven and not being with the one she loves. Catra could have learned to exist on her own, develop interests and a life outside of Adora. Learn to accept herself and eventually come to terms with her childhood abuse.
If Adora had responded “I don’t feel the same way” to Catra’s *I love you. I always have*, would Catra respect Adora’s boundaries and move on? Would she get angry, yell at Adora and push her to the ground? I think Catra would do the second one. Catra deserves new friends and dates someone else. Everything she did was motivated by her obsession to beat Adora, and make her pay for leaving her. I want these two to be happy, but too much hurt has been dealt. When they kissed and confessed to each other, it didn't give me a happy feeling.
therapy can be a thing that comes after all of this lol you know?? every single one of these characters probably needs that. healing isn't a immediate thing, and literally no one has implied that them kissing and admitting their feelings automatically makes up for and removes everything that's happened from their minds. they'll probably have trauma forever, but them kissing and confessing gives me a happy feeling because now they can start on that road to recovery and working things out, which they never would've been able to really do while they were in the horde, or while they were even fighting horde prime.

it really has been a hekkin journey; i had watched this show through well before your reaction series, but your reaction series let me experience it again through someone else's fresh experience. For that i thank you.
In the time between the start and finish of your reaction series, a lot has changed for me. I viewed Shadow Weaver as i viewed my own mom at the beginning; the sacrifice on my first watch-through had me openly sobbing because i felt i would never have that kind of catharsis. Now, i'm in regular contact with my mom, and it all feels so surreal.
I still cry at Shadow Weaver's death; people say it is pure manipulation, a twisting of the knife, but i see it differently. It's a VERY flawed mother who realizes she did wrong regardless of her intentions. She realizes nothing she could do would change the past, but she did what she could to make the future better. Yes, she was abusive, but that doesn't mean she didn't love them in her own way. Through sitting and having a lot of long conversations with my mom, i realized her childhood was shit as well, and while it doesn't make what she did okay, it does allow me to see her as a person. Not just a shitty parent, but a kid who went through trauma and was doing her best to be a better parent. As adults, we see each other, we understand each other, and have bonded familial love.
