You should listen to Dizzy Mizz Lizzy they are a also a Danish band for the next video.
You should listen to Pizza by ADHD
D-A-D formerly known as "Disneyland After Dark" till they got sued by guess who ;-) An awesome band live if you want to check out more by them 🙂 I've never seen the music video to Drew Sycamores song, so that was fun! A couple of other danish rock bands: Sort sol: "Let your fingers do the walking", Dizzy Mizz Lizzy: "Waterline", Carpark North: "Transparent and Glasslike", Mew: "Comforting sounds" (alternative rock) - and one of my favorites who's been around since the 60's: The Savage Rose - try "A girl I new" or "Wild child"
Yes, I agree with Mew, their song "Special" as well. And some Danish classics like "Den jeg elsker, elsker jeg", and "Kom tilbage nu"
oh yes, i love Mew, i grew up with my mom listening to Mew, and i have just continued it Snow Brigade from Mew is also very good
All great suggestions. You're right about them being both classics and very, very good rock songs in various categories. Only thing missing, I believe, is Gasolin (so many to choose from). 🙂
That they got sued is just a popular story. In fact, they voluntarily changed their name in order to avoid a lawsuit.
This commentary section is filled with danish people born in the 80's! 😄
You know it.
60's ,, lol
Makes sense, this is the songs my 70's mom was dancing to in nightclubs.
04
The first danish “Supergroup” was Gasolin’. They were started back in the late 60’s in the hippie-squatter-society back then. They quickly rose to nation wide fame and their final album got a platinum record the very day it was released with a pre-booked sale of 116.000 copys. Not bad in a country of 5 mio citizens,
The lead singer, Kim Larsen, is also the one with the highest sales numbers ever for the album “Midt om Natten” with 650.000 copys sold in Denmark and approximately 250.000 sold in the rest of Scandinavia.
The album was a soundtrack for a movie he wrote too.
Unfortunately Their american journey was a Disaster, no it was a complete CATASTROPHE! But their Danish stuff is good.
I Don't know if I would agree that they were the first "Supergroup", but it gets really complicated, its true they were one of the first, and it's easy to make this inccorrect conclusion that Gasolin were the first, but the reality tells a different story:
Savage Roses, Steppeulvene and Young Flowers all predate Gas 1, which became Gasolin, and they weren't really big until Kim Larsen came onboard, they also imploded after a while with internal issues. Savage Roses are still big today, and it's no surprise they sprung out of the Koppel Dynasti as some of the first. Steppe Ulvene, were unquestionably a Supergroup, but... times change. Not to be confused with Steppenwolf which is a 1968 Canadian band. Steppeulvene were a major influence on Kim Larsen and Gasolin though. Hip was their only Album and it did achieve Silver in the original certification system, although due to Eik's early death and the bands instability they didn't really reach the same wide spread appeal until the CD arrived, and Gasolin had long outgrown them, But the oldest band to reach a certification is Steppeulvene, Gasolin comes Second, and they reached the certifications somewhat earlier in the 70's where Steppeulvene were kind of a volatile band in terms of falling out. They didn't produce anything really after Hip from 1967. Savage Roses have played continously since 1968 and their 1972 album Dødens Triumf, has over a 250.000 albums sold, then you need to add the streaming and alll that stuff on top. Making it the earliest album to sell that many copies. However it didn't take long before Gasolin made an album that over time has dwarfed that: "Midt Om Natten" from Gasolin in 1983, it the song from the movie was inspired in may 24. 1972 which is after the premiere of the ballet where the music Dødenstriumf is from date is 23. maj 1971 which is 12 months and 1 day older. Meaning the 250.000 albums sold from Savage Roses is the oldest album to pass platinum certification. Gasolin 2 or Gas 2 is from november 1972, making it younger than Savage Roses, and Gasolin 1, never sold above silver. Which means, By all account Gasolin is the second Greatest Group in Denmark to date, they are however beaten by Dizzy Mizz Lizzi, and they aren't the earliest band to reach a certification either, nor are they the oldest band to make a Platinum album from album release date. Gasolin probably had the largest concurrent appeal appart from Dizzy Mizz Lizzi, and they are certainly up there, but the "first danish supergroup" no. Savage Roses also played in Newark in the 60's so Gasolin isn't the first international band of that kaliber either. Its a really believable notion, Because Gasolin were so popular and everywhere in the 1980's, but the reality is they aren't actually the first Supergroup, not by a full year! In fact Midt om Natten doesn't really explode until it is released in the 1980's a full decade after Dødens Triumf. And they aren't the first band to make music for stage and screen performances either to reach above 1 quater of a million copies sold. The are however the band with the most contemporary widespread popularity and variety, at a time where everyone had access to vinyls, which makes a massive difference. Savage Roses naturally eventually outperformed Gasolin also, across all their releases, but that has to do with the amount of releases and how long they've existed. But a small fact check here, can be a bit surprising if you think Gasolin were the first. They are Undeniably 2nd on a lot of parameters though. You can almost make the conclusion they had the most rapid rute to success, but you need to adjust for the contemporary availability of records and means to play records, and when you do that... Steppeulvene actually wins that one, by a LANDSLIDE! Steppeulvene has the benefit of being THE FIRST Danish rock band, but the numbers still hold up.
Anyway, Gasolin has a special place in Danish Music History, no question about it, and on current emotional impact they likely have the most widespread appeal. And that is why they probably in the current times regardless of statistics will be rated widely as the Greatest Danish Band of all time, simply by popular vote, EVEN THOUGH Dizzy Mizz Lizzy actually have way more success domestically as well as abroad, people will still answer Gasolin or Kim Larsen, humans are biased, but not necessarily wrong. Thought i would run the numbers here, just to set the record straight (pun unintended).
@@pederslothzuricho7685 “Midt om Natten” was Kim Larsen - not Gasolin’. Gasolin broke up as a group in 78.
Oh yea, I completely forgot he founded Gasoline, Rest in peace Kim you deserve it.
@@rasmusjensen6962 He didn't found gasolin he joined them and then they changed their name to Gasolin. Franz Beckerlee and Wili Jønson founded Gasolin. Kim Larsen joined very early as he already lived in Sofiegaarden where Jønson lived. But Gasolin technically speaking existed in the late 60's as a duo at first.
I heard a Danish band called alpha beat being played over the mall radio in Oklahoma once.
I love your list (I likethat you have old (D-A-D) and newer artists (Drew Sycamore). I would also recommend - which are mostly pophits:
Phlake - Pregnant
Hugo Helmig - Please don't lie
Natasja - Selvtillid ("Confidence")
Karl William - Under Solen ("In the sun")
Calby - Burnout
Kashmir - Rocket Brothers (a hit in 2004)
Zar Paulo - Tiger (a radio favorite)
Christopher - Bad (or Bad Boy feat. Chung Ha)
Natasja X Tessa X Karen Mukupa - Til Banken (Bringin' the money - directly translated "Going to the bank")
Natasja was a great singer/rapper who sadly died in a plane crash, but her music and memory is one of joy, love and music.
Natasja died in a car accident where Karen Mukupa also got injured...
If you have any plans on doing more of these “reacting to danish music” I recommend following:
* Police Bells & Church Sirens - nephew
* The day after tomorrow- saybia
* Frit land - ulige numre
* Solid ground - Alex Vargas
* Let the fingers do the walking - sort sol
* Babushka - sulka, tue track
* Ben - tessa
* Sacre coeur - Tina Dickow
* New boo - kwamie liv
* Pianomand - cover by kwamie liv
* Killing it - eee gee
* Solkongen - minds of 99
* Hjem fra fabrikken - Andreas odbjerg
* Angel zoo - phlake
* Mucki bar - Tobias rahim
Way better than the first part you did 🙏🏻 You should check out Nephew - 007 is also gonna die
D.A.D Sleeping my day away was released in 1989 )
You should listen to one of the best grupes we ever have had in Denmark Savage Rose “Wild child”. Anisette have the most fantastic voice.
There is quite a few good already mentioned artists, but you should definitely check out lukas graham - 7 years or mama said or love someone or share that love, infernal - kalinka or from paris to berlin, safri duo - played alive , nik & jay - hot, alphabeat - facination, Sys Bjerre-Malene or alle mine veninder. Thomas Helmig or his son Hugo Helmig, or Hjalmer larsen
Agree❤
Gotta say :D Volbeat - Gardens tale
danish combined with english so awsome
they have been on tour in the US before (:
and then
Dad - Everything grows
Dad - It's after Dark
Dad - Laugh 'n' A ½
Dad - Nineteenhundredandyesterday
u ccant miss theese, when u know about the band lol :D thx for sharing
If you do another part, I think you should listen to “7 years” by Lukas Graham and the brand “minds of 99”
Great video!! 45 Fahrenheit Girl is an absolute smash hit 🙂
PS if you like Volbeat try out Still Counting
I would highly recommend Volbeat 'For Evigt' live from Telia Parken ft. Johan Olsen
Volbeat, Johan Olsen - For evigt definately worth checking out.
Volbeat is my favorite band - yes, I am danish - and Die To Live is one of my favorites
Hey! Dane here!🇩🇰🙋🏼♀️
If you do a part three you should definitely check out some of these songs!
“What a life” by Scarlet Pleasure
“Vai Amor” by Gilli
“This is my life” by Gasolin
“Øde Ø” by Rasmus Seebach
“From Paris to Berlin” by Infernal
“Guantanamo” by Outlandish
“Superliga” by Nephew
If you ever do another one of these, I highly recommend either “ukendt kunstner” or “D1MA”. Ukendt kunster is really a danish group that stands out. And you might be able to understand some things D1MA says because in some songs he uses both English and danish, and sorta mashes it together.
Great video man💪 love when people branch out
The lead singer in D.A.D and the dude with the helmet are brothers. They still rock and give us som amazing concerts ❤️
Now when you went into older Danish rock, you should try Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, for instance Silverflame, should be a good live performance.
Waterline is great to, but actually most of their songs are.
Volbeat are pretty popular in the US.
A few years back they had Lars Ulrik from Metallica as a guest drummer on a few concerts 😃
If you want to react to more Danish songs, then you should listen to:
-FOR EVIGT by VOLBEAT
(Both English and Danish is sung in that song)
-Jeg Kigger På Fugle
(can’t remember the artists name but the song has been a big hit for us who are from Gen Z)
Sydpå by Bro
(also a giga hit from near 2010)
DAD was actaully trying to break through in the Us with the help of the danish mucsic industri, they just never caught. Before them the indsutry tried to get Kim Larsen known in the state... but the first danish band to actually break through majorly.. was ... Aqua with barbie girl.
If you are making a pt 3 I can recommend:
Volbeat: Forever
Barbie girl by Aqua is also from denmark
Maybelline i hofteholder is still a favorite around these parts. Very similar to this one
please do a part 3🥺
I came for the danish music and stayed for the vibes
noah carter is danish and has made some English songs aswell that popped off that's what he got famous from in the start
“Up” by Jonah Blacksmith
"Safri Duo - Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song)" is one of the few Danish techno song, that could be considered an evergreen
Yo Dar definitely check out more with Volbeat they have a unique sound for a rock band..
D.A.D formerly known as DisneyLand After Dark, but some copyright infringement cases put a stop to that..😂
You should check out Minds og 99 too - very big danish group 🙌🏼
Good picks so far
then came the LONG ads
you chould check out the song (Police Bells & Church Sirens)
I think you would like D1MA 🤗
The Album that contained "Sleeping my day away" (called "No fuel left for the Pilgrims) actually charted on the Billboard 200, and they had a decent deal with Warner music. Unfortunatly for D-A-D they day the first single was also the day a little song called teenage spirit debuted (at least on MTV europe) and then it was all about Teenage angst and other downer vibes in the US. The racord called Riskin' it All was fortunatly still a big hit in Denmark as well as most of northern europe, and the band is currently celebrating their 40th anniversary. A little aditional pice of trivia on D-A-D, the bassplayer only plays on two string basses (he claims he can't handle more strings) and all of the basses he uses are custom made and there are usually one new for each tour, He has one shaped like a rocket, one the is shaped like the backend of 60's american car, one where the size and position of the body and the headstock is shifted and many many more.
Nice Danish artists with English vocals, adrenalize, dj alligator, toomanylefthands, infernal, Faustix, Medina, drew Sycamore, dune, the storm, mew, kashmir, dad, merchenary, sort sol, Alexander brown, christopher, scarlet Pleasure, kato. In hiphop we got negash ali.
So go check them out☺️👌
Mercenary* (Architect of Lies is a great album)
My cousin Magly have made a song where Drew Sycamore helped with her getting the step closer to something better (convenience) and another (i dont feel fine) :D
Your not wrong about Volbeat having some old school vibes. The leadsingers huge inspirations when young were Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. He then got into heavy rock when a bit older. Before creating volbeat with their own mix style.
I would recommend "Dark room" by Tobias rahim, "Børn af natten(hola bonita) by Ankerstjerne, "Balaclava" by ICEKIID, "De her timer" by Lamin, "Hva du på" by Lamin, "Sent" by Artigeardit, "magisk" by nick & jay, and "danser med dæmoner" by Baloosh.😊
Yeah, my fav D.A.D song
If you do make a part 3 Try “Olivia” form Rasmus Seebach🇩🇰
Dane here. Love me some Volbeat and DAD but my favorite is Magtens Korridorer
True story..she told it on a radio interview.......Drew (Sycamore) was only using the "Drew" in her starting career, but when she used the hashtag #drew, then people would end up at Drew Barrymore,so she changed to Drew Sycamore, because it sounded better and could use hashtag ;)
Mercyful Fate is my fav Danish band .
You gotta check out some Old danish hip hop. There’s a danish hip hop group called “Suspekt”
They are big in danish culture, kendrick also sampled one of there beats.
You have to hear volbeat For evigt too
You NEED to react to the minds Of 99! One Of if not the biggest band in Danmark at the moment
U are so cool ❤🇩🇰❤️🇺🇸❤️
Vilbeat actually tured in US some yesrs ago as far as i remembered 😅 and the lead singer are inspired by elvis
Back in the late 80's when D.A.D was Disneyland after dark until they got sued by disney. Sound of my youth and when they were at their best imo.
Volbeat a mix of 50's rock'n roll with thrash metal :D
Volbeat - For evigt is a Danish/English song that i think is the best imo
It could be cool to hear something by Gasoline like Rabalderstrede
You should check out
Gilli, Benny jamz - lifestyle
Gilli - orale
Suspekt - proletar
L.o.c - du gør mig
Nik & Jay - tag mig tilbage
D1ma - for ev1gt
