My parents drive the 2010 Opel Meriva, my brother owns the 2018 Opel Astra Sports Tourer and my first car was the 1989 Opel Corsa. We love Opel and we’re traditionally connected to this wonderful (but abandoned) car manufacturer in Germany 🇩🇪. Die Zukunft gehört allen.
My dad always drove Opel when i was young. He drove a Opel record and a commodore i remember. My first car was a Kadett e and later i owned a calibra and that was my last Opel.
I think of Opel as part of my childhood. My father had a green Opel Manta(mk 1) with beautiful white seats. How I wish I had it now. I would love nothing better than to see them reintroducing the Opel Manta and GT in electric form. Now that Opel are gone from GM it would be great to see them becoming more inventive. But how much intellectual property have they been left with? Anyone know? Or are they now just a brand and a set of factories?..
But it went tot the french. Opel is a simple car that just works. It was a combination of american simplicity with german common sens. But now with the french it is going to be cheap and expansive and complicated to repair.
@@MrDarkHorseWM Yes, they were bought by PSA. Actually, now the new Opel Mokka has inherited the front grill and bonnet appearance of the 70s Manta - to my delight. Its already so popular that its sold out even before the launch.
It's same for me. My family is buying only opels since 1950's. The one that has the most sentimental value for me is the 5th one, bought brand new astra in 2002. I was born in 2006 and literally everywhere we have driven only with this car. Every summer, every year driving to other countries living awesome adventures. Everyday getting pickup at school. Always getting the hard work done with big wagon trunk. Amazing memories of my father trying to race sports cars at stoplights, and full on gas 5k rpm trying to overtake mustangs on highways. 😁 Drifting with my mother on empty parkings with open windows in winter when there is no traction. Always fixing the car together with my father listing to music and thinking together how to fix the problem. I could literally write book about this car it's been my whole life with me. Actually it's still staying strong in front of my window just waiting for new adventures, waiting for me to get the drivers licence 😎.
I come from a really big OPEL family. My grandfather and my father always drove Opels. Different Rekords and Commodores. I have had 13 different Opels. Here we go : 1) Opel Kadett 1964 model 2) Opel Admiral 2.8 1964 model 3) Opel Rekord Olympia A 1965 model 4) Opel Rekord Coupe 2000 Berlina 1976 model 5) Opel Rekord 2.0S 1981 model 6) Opel Rekord 2.0S GL 1985 model 7) Opel Astra 1.8 16V Stationswagon 1996 model 8) Opel Omega 2.0 16V Sport Stationwagon 1998 model 9) Opel Astra 1.6 Stationwagon 2006 model 10) Opel Insignia Sportstourer 2011 model (Diesel) 11) Opel Insignia Sportstourer 2015 model (Diesel) 12) Opel Insignia Sportstourer 2017 model 13) Opel Insignia Sportstourer 2.0 OPC Line 4x4 260 hp 2018 model. Next one will most likely be new Zafira, but I am holding on. New Zafira is bit to heavy, I want 230+PS and FFS there is no automatic trunk doors. I am holding only due to these two huge issues. If they do not correct it soon, could be Ford S-max coming to my drive way.
I learned how to drive in a 59 Rekord. I bought a Cascada last year. The Cascada is one of the nicest cars around right now. I'm totally happy with it.
My dad owned an Opel Kadett 1.2S which he bought new in 1979. The car arrived with the Berlina trim which was quite special back then. Sure :-). Opel Kadett E 1989. 1.3 LS, 4-door hatchback. Still own it (and drive it from time to time) :-D! My father used to drive Kadett B back in the 80's.. I remember the speedometer was horizontal and multi-colored (there was a line that changed color from yellow to green to blue to red, if I recall correctly, while increasing speed). One of the nicest childhood memories I have :-).
I did know all of them. However Adam Opel's wife had an uncle who won on the Brandenburg lottery, and gave them the money to build their first major factory for sewing machines. His 4 sons were bicycle champions for several times.VW wanted to buy it, but it was sold to the froggers instead of germans to prevent VW to being the largest maker on the globe. Opel also invented the method of "wedding" where body and chassis - engine are mounted together and all mass produced cars are made with. And also 1928 invented brake rockets now used on spaceships. And the world's first "Drive-by-wire" system with an electric accelerator pedal in the rocket cars as well as the use of wings and spoilers which were also adjustable during driving performed by the driver. AND a driverless car in 1928. AND a luxury car that technologically surpassed Bugatti Royale... the REGENT 1928-29. AND participated in the development of three of the world's first really made reaction-driven aircraft and flew two of them. And held the world speed record by rail at 256 km/h from 1928 to 1966. And much more... ruclips.net/video/WQCioNzZyoA/видео.html All of the above was created by Fritz von Opel, one of the greatest - and today - most unknown visionaries and adventurers in car history. ruclips.net/video/c3L7M8N60dc/видео.html
I had an opel kadett, I think it was a 1967 in about 1972. I traded a 305cc Honda dream for it as I needed a car to go from Washington DC to North Jersey. Perhaps the biggest stupidity was General Motors having sold Opel, here in Brazil we had several Opel projects with Chevrolet manufacture, we had the 2 2L 8v (C20NE) 2l 16v (C20XE) engines, in addition to 2.2L 8V engines and 16V, 2.4 8v and 16v, A correction, here in Brazil and in South America it was called Corsa it was called Chevrolet Corsa Wind, in Central America and North America it was called Chevrolet C2. Here in Brazil and South America the Opals were manufactured by Chevrolet, I will say everyone's name. Opel Kadett C, was called Chevette in Brazil. Opel Kadett E, was called Kadett. Opel Corsa, was called Corsa Wind. Opel Omega, called Omega. Opel Astra, called Astra Opel Ascona C, called Monza. Opel Vectra, was called Vectra. Opel Saphira, was called Zafira. Opel Kadett E Caravan, was called Ipanema. Opel Kadett C caravan was called Marajó.

All of the above was created by Fritz von Opel, one of the greatest - and today - most unknown visionaries and adventurers in car history.

I had an opel kadett, I think it was a 1967 in about 1972. I traded a 305cc Honda dream for it as I needed a car to go from Washington DC to North Jersey. My older brother bought an opel manta about 1977? 1st 1 I remember seeing was an opel gt 1969. A friend bought it when we were seniors in 69 & everyone called the baby vette.

Perhaps the biggest stupidity was General Motors having sold Opel, here in Brazil we had several Opel projects with Chevrolet manufacture, we had the 2 2L 8v (C20NE) 2l 16v (C20XE) engines, in addition to 2.2L 8V engines and 16V, 2.4 8v and 16v,
A correction, here in Brazil and in South America it was called Corsa it was called Chevrolet Corsa Wind, in Central America and North America it was called Chevrolet C2.
Opel Astra, called Astra
Opel Ascona C, called Monza.
Opel Vectra, was called Vectra.
Opel Saphira, was called Zafira.
Opel Kadett E Caravan, was called Ipanema.
Opel Kadett C caravan was called Marajó.
