    Thanks for all the great info thus far! It's been 3 months since the last episode, are you not doing this program anymore? BTW your missing episode 52 and you have 2 58s in the playlist. ;)

      +myswtsins You're very welcome. We have pushed the pause button on the Ask The Pond Digger Show. We had a ton of koi filming scheduled in January and I was traveling quite a bit in February. We haven't started the process back up yet but have talked it over several times. We are contemplating a new format.
      Would love to hear your suggestions or comments on the show.

    I will figure out my build tomorrow. I thought it was around 2000 gallons and the lady and my local pond shop said it would be 3000 to 4000. I better get this figured out! Thanks.

      I sure hope so too. Why can't they just give you a show on TV? I mean seriously! They put crap on that no one wants to watch and then people like you who are sharing valuable information they look over. Ugh.

    Just completed the new pond build. Estimating 7,000 gallon pond...prior to the build. Outer dimensions 21'x12'x4.5' it is a slightly kidney bean shaped. But for best guess prior to the salt calculation, that is about 8,500 gallons. Next week, I buy a hydrometer and attempt the salt method.

      +ThePondDigger If you meter reads in PPM, then you need to know that 1000PPM = 0.1%...... I have my meter.... Now it is time to get the salt.

    • @dskoi7358
      @dskoi7358 8 лет назад +1

      +ThePondDigger Added 50 lbs of salt as a conservative amount. If it reached 1000ppm (0.1%), I would have a 6000 gallon pond. I let the pond cycle for a week (mostly due to business travel). Just took the reading and got 838ppm (0.0838%). Using the formula, that means my pond is 7165 gallons. Quite the difference from my dimension calculation. Thank you and your son for reminding me what the formula for Stoichiometry.

    It's 24m3. after not knowing the amount of water in my previous build ponds (always guessing to much) the last rebuild it was filled with a water meter installed and it was just over 24m3 (+/-6000Gallons).

    My main water supply for my house is a well. Will this calculation work if I filled my new pond at the beginning of the summer with well water? The dimensions of my pond is 14. 5 feet by 13 feet by 3.5 half feet deep. I have multiple shelves in the pond also?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 лет назад

      +Ronald Griego Yes the formula will work if your pond is on well water. HOWEVER you will need to take a salt measurement on your water before you add the salt. You may have detectable salt levels in your well water. Keep me posted.

    If there’s one thing to do with all things pond / aquariums on the internet that drives me crazy, it’s the unfathomable preference for imperial measurements. WHY?, five eights of anything is just silly, who even knows how many ounces of water are in a gallon? (128 apparently) , it’s the most illogical, random, archaic way to work out anything, then you’ve got to multiply it by 4.43213 to turn your apples back into pears..... 1000 ml = 1 litre, 1000g = 1kg, 1000mm = 1 m, 1 litre of water weighs 1 kg, that’s it in a nutshell, the beautifully simple metric system....... but thanks for the tip about timing how long it takes to fill a bucket - great idea, I’ll be doing that for sure,

    can someone guide me, I have seen all plumbing and other episodes....but if I am building a 8 by 7 back yard pond and use a skimmer, back drain, pump and waterfall, how do I connect those. is there a diagram cause I can't figure it out even after the videos :(

    I'm guilty of over stating the size of my pond. It's totally fun to say 3000 gallons!!! If I do the best guess I can, I'm under 2000! That sucks! I really don't understand the salt measurement you talked about. #'s of salt, test the level of water, then divide by whatever, then divide again? It's friday man, why you got to bum me out on the lack of size of my pond?! You know how us guys are, BIGGER IS BETTER!!! (that's what she said) LOL have a great weekend. #asktheponddigger #mypondsbiggerthanyours #itsfriday

      You want to turn the pond over one to three times an hour on a pond that size. That's my take anyway. SO I would suggest 1500 to 3000 gph. Keep in touch with me daily on instagram! Username - @theponddigger

    I saw you haven't made a q&a style video like this in a while, but I have recently been trying to add new baby koi into my mud pond, but a massive heron keeps coming in and eating the newly introduced babies. I was wondering what I could do to protect my smaller fish

    • @markstubits7320
      @markstubits7320 8 лет назад

      By the way, I saw you did a previous video very similar to it, but my pond is very large, so the exterior solutions aren't doing the trick

    I just realized... You're missing video number 35. You have "Selecting Champion Koi At A Pet Store - Ask TPD #34", then immediately after, you have "Using Algecide In Ponds - Ask TPD #36". Where is #35??? lol! I feel like an 'oops' may be in order!

      Pounds of salt added to the pond, divided by the salinity reading of a hydrometer, divided by 8.327 = Gallons of water in the pond.

    If you're treating your fish any chemical you better have a flow rate meter. Have our fish for 25 years first two years we listen to this ridiculous sh*t. If you love your fish by a flow rate meter.

  • @darlamorey4105
    @darlamorey4105 7 лет назад

    One day you will have to use Potassium permanganate You better Know how many gallons your pond is the flow rate meter. OMG do your research don't ever put on salt in your pond. Ever ever ever!!!!!! Ridiculous advice.
