"A female Shylock changes everything." Why? Don't tell me - Our new and improved Shylock will be the undoubted victim and hero in this version, as oppsed to the standard version, which has incited discussion and debate since thte 16th Century. Is it going to take a female Shylock to clear all this up for us? Are you going to butcher this work, all in the name of "progress"? Yawn. In fairness though, it's brilliant publicity, as I might very possibly make the journey myself, just to confirm my own suspicions.

I wish the woke mob would just cancel Shakespeare all together at this point for being too white, too male, and too English instead of their arrogant butchering of his work with 'diversity' casting nonsense! The only male part they don't cast with women is Othello because it's apparently the only Shakespeare play 'diverse' enough with a Moor (not a sub saharian by the way) in the original character description and so the only play currently being mass produced in every city. Where can I go to see the Shakespeare productions of Olivier without the constant woke agenda?

Wow! That sounds... awful. Is that another arts organisation with the word 'Royal' in its title peddling the idea that they are edgy and relevant?

They can be edgy and relevant without being bad. Julius Caesar was an attempt to be edgy and relevant and ended up tiring and irrelevant. They really need someone doing quality control if they are going to do crazy shit.

Absolute trash, a distortion of history.

I wish that the RSC would stop this sort of nonsense. 😕

Advertising their plays, you mean? I know. Shameful.

Amen! The woke brigade are RUINING current Shakespeare play productions and English theatre in general. The woke preaching and propaganda are unwatchable and nauseating. I am a feminist, but I don't need to see Shylock played by a woman to feel 'empowered' or whatever crap these lefty luvvie directors are selling! Get back to the sanity of 1980s theatre stagings and productions!
