"Outrageous": Israel's Netanyahu rejects genocide charge after World Court ruling

- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday that Israel was committed to international law after the World Court ordered it to take action to prevent acts of genocide in Gaza, but he reiterated that it had a right to defend itself.
"The charge of genocide levelled against Israel is not only false, it’s outrageous, and decent people everywhere should reject it," he said.
Ruling on a case brought by South Africa, the court said Israel must take measures to improve the humanitarian situation for Palestinian civilians in the enclave but stopped short of calling for a ceasefire.

For anyone claiming that the SA case is baseless the judge decision wasn't even close. 15-2 was the verdict in every point and it was easily determined that there is a plausible cause of genocide against Israel. The actual trial now needs to be held to find Israel to be guilty or not. The problem is that decision won't be made for years and there may not be a Gaza with Palestinians when the verdict is made. There should have been an immediate decision to stop the indiscriminate bombings and murder of innocent civilians by snipers.

Your analogy doesn't really work since Ukraine didn't send soldiers across its border to Russia to slaughter, rape, and kidnap more than 1000 Russian civilians.

Hamas has been all of these things and more. Russia invaded Ukraine because Putin wanted oil, territory and a warm water port. Israel invaded Gaza because Hamas needed to be stopped. It couldn't just be tolerated or negotiated with. You don't negotiate with a government that rapes and murders over 1000 of your country's civilians.
The reason for the civilian death toll in Gaza is simple. No one will take Gazan refugees. The Egyptians allow maybe 100 people through per day. That's nothing. With Ukraine, MILLIONS of refugees were allowed to cross over the border and out of the warzone. Even so, the death toll of civilians in Ukraine has been awful. Now, you look at Gaza where the battlefields are dense urban spaces and the gazans are just being herded around like cats because no one will let them leave... What kind of a precedent is this setting? Where justified wars will be deemed genocides because of the failure of the global community to properly evacuate civilians from the warzone. Gaza has a population of 2 million. Let's say there's 100 countries on earth who can take in refugees. If they all pledged to take 10,000 gazans for the duration of the war, half the population of Gaza would be spared and the remaining half would at least be less packed in. It would be easier for them to move around, easier to get them aid if there are only half as many in the warzone.

I'm not entirely sure. But it might be because of the first reply to your comment, terrorists. Inviting Hamas on air is inviting hate speech. The palestinian gazans dont have another legitimate governing body to represent them (I cant comment on how willing they are as a population to have Fatah represent them, though I know they're unpopular, whereas it seems Hamas is very popular from the few polls that I've seen).

the ICJ's ruling is that israel continue its effort to minimize civilian harm, continue to comply with the Genocide Convention, continue to allow aid in, and allows it to continue its military campaign is pretty clear indication that it doesn't believe Israel is currently committing genocide.
It also ruled that Hamas and its allies release hostages unconditionally, and that Israel should hold those who make inciting remarks to account (an embarrassment that should've been curbed when the war first broke out anyway).
I don't see how this can possibly be seen as a victory for SA.

The case submission by S.A. was sloppy, redacted key context & info, and was predicated on emotion over logic.
Frankly put, it should have been thrown out but I think the judges were afraid there would be anarchy in the Arab countries.
Nonetheless, S.A. has done a great disservice to global human rights tribunals and maligned this court’s integrity with a farce of a case submission.
No wonder the country is in freefall.

Hamas has previously offered, early on after Oct7, to release hostages and Israel refused. Hostages that have been released, expressed more fear of dying from IDF bombings than by Hamas.
