And that just goes to tell you how well prepared the ground crew was and how much trust astronauts put in their ground crew to just do what comes over the radio in that moment - BEFORE questioning what that actually does.
I think one astronaut paniced in this critical situation and another one found the right button. It's not mentioned here tough. Teamwork that counts :)
Apollo 11 and 13 have gotten all the attention and glory over the years - but every other Apollo mission was just as much of an amazing technical achievement. The lightening strikes this mission endured underscored just some of the unexpected hazards that could have caused a catastrophe - but were overcome by the skill and dedication of the flight crew and all their support crews on the ground. Well done all.
I think the astronaut who sat at the button actually paniced and another one found it and pushed it. But yes, it's amazing how mentally strong they all are generally
Same reason I'm here viewing. Redundancy saves lives. Tests save lives. No unnecessary risks needed. This hit hard after Destin's talk with NASA. I hope to see us do crazy cool things in the future of space exploration and transportation with new technologies making their way in to the field. Incremental calculated steps.
Simply AWESOME. Good Job John Aaron was on the ball. They could well have been screwed. It is always much easier and quicker to sort shit out, IF you understand the stuff properly. My old fella was a Pit Electrician, working underground on bigish multi KV three phase shit, and pretty complicated control panels. Anything he wasn't comfortably familiar with, and by familiar I mean a total understanding and the capability to be able to redraw drawings, or portions of drawings, out of his head, he would make it his business to learn. I grew up with our toilet wall always having a big A0 electrical wiring digram pinned on it. He would work on small portions of the drawing, once he understood it totally, and commit the drawing to memory. Then replace it with another. They were to me of course just big maps of squiggles then, when I was a kid. But he always used to say, it is OK understanding things, and having things in books, and data sheets. It is another thing entirely to have it all up there, and be able to draw on it as needed. Damn good job Alan didn't have to go seeking out books and procedure diagrams. Nice one Mr Aaron. Nice one indeed.

This is beautiful😭
It was a horrible choice to launch rockets under horrible weather conditions.
Thankfully the Saturn V rocket wasn't effected by the lighting , beast of a rocket and one of a kind !
Actually, the weather was considered excellent for rocket flight at the time. The comfort of the crowd of onlookers was not a priority.

In another video I heard them say it was chosen because the president was on the spot and they wanted to deliver
