Surprisingly I actually like Raiden's fatality better on the SNES version. The way the skull falls into the ash pile is still pretty brutal and it helps differentiated it from Johnny Cage's head uppercut
I can remember when this hit the arcade. Kids were cluttered around watching all the carnage unfold. If you could pull off a fatality with the crazy joysticks and cluttered buttons YOU WERE A GOD.
I remember getting home from school one afternoon to my big brother (whom I idolized at the time) excitedly asking to show me something he learned to do. I sat on the sofa with the biggest grin on my face as he played through the game but then that expression turned into absolute awe as he pulled off a fatality. It was hands down one of the coolest things I'd probably seen up to that point ( I was around five or six at the time), seeing as it was all I talked about on the playground with friends for a while after that.
So tame compared to today. I was in grade 7-8 when this came out. I remember the outrage. They even had talk shows like opra on about the violence in games like this and doom.
Just a waste of time. It made us kids want it more and there were far more violent images in films. My parents were pretty chill, even though they tried to act like that, and I turned out fine.
For me it was an outlet. A way for me to take out my pre-teen puberty rage on something & not someone! I imagine it was that way for most of us. I turned out fine too & it never made me wanna hurt anyone. It actually kept me from it if anything.

It's possible to glitch the game using Raiden's (SNES) Goro/Shang Tsung levels. They'll just have a gray based glitched pallet. (Scorpion as well if not mistaken)
For me, its the biting animation and blood on his chin afterwards. Even in the console versions, his face is still bloody. Kano will eat your still beating heart as you lay dying!
Raiden's fatality is pretty sweet, particularly when done after teleporting from across the screen. Liu Kang's fatality on the pit stage probably gets the slight edge overall, but Raiden's is otherwise the best everywhere else. I used Raiden's teleport first before the fatality and it always got the oohs and ahs from the crowd lol.
I actually kind of prefer these to modern fatalities. They’re quick and to the point rather than the drawn out exercise in traumatizing your animation team that the new ones are. 1-3 definitely has peak fatalities
You're absolutely right. One of my biggest gripes with modern fatalities are that so many of them are showcasing fighters clearly maiming an already dead opponent for the sake of spectacle. It doesn't make sense for many characters to be doing that at all.

I have good news for you. The soon to be released Mortal Kombat 1 has “Kameo” Kombatants, with many of said Kombatants’ Fatalities taken directly from the original MK Trilogy.
There is no silicone on Elizabeth Malecki (Sonya's actress for MK1) She is 100% real and doesn't need any fake titties. On the other hand,Kerri Hoskins (Sonya's actress for MK3) is so full of silicone,that I am surprised she bleeds red,instead of silver in MK3. I'd take Elizabeth over Kerri any day! Fuck Kerri Hoskins and her fake juggs.
I find it strange a lot of these MK fatality videos don't enable the blood code on the Genesis. It makes out their fatalities are rubbish, when theyre decent in design.

Also.. These are from the UK version and not the American version.. The USA have always had a weird attitude towards blood in the "entertainment" world.. They had green goo and some of the fatalities edited.. We had the full version..

Man flashback to my childhood in the 90’s. My summer days were spent either outside on a big trampoline, playing baseball, or going over to my friends house who’s parents let him do whatever he wanted and actually allowed him to play MK. We played on the Sega Genesis constantly. If I had a game like that at my house I’d have to hide it.
These are the fatalities that were “too violent” to the extent that the gaming industry created ratings for video games (M, T, E, etc.) Just imagine if they saw Modern MK games fatalities...
Finally someone with a clear understanding between the 2 versions. Ppl love to crow about the genesis version mainly cause they had the blood and arcade fatalities via code and while yes it does play smoother than the snes version the sound and music of the genesis version was horrible. The snes version clearly had the better visuals and music but had GOD AWFUL input delays.

I find it weird that the creator here didn't turn on the blood on the Genesis version... when showing fatalities. It would be AWESOME if they showed BOTH the non-blood fatalities and then showed the versions with the blood as well as... now that I think about it.. even though I've played the Genesis version literally thousands of times I'm not sure I've ever did ANY of the fatalities without the blood code on. I just automatically entered it.
I remember MK was the game that made me finally admit to myself that SNES graphics were just better than Sega Genesis. Not an easy thing to a kid who didn't have any money and had gambled on Sega.
sega had a few games i wanted to play but yeah from sound, music and graphics not to mention game collection super nintendo was just far beyond at the time.

When the flying broom witch passes through the full moon, if you take two turns perfectly, you will have the right to play with the green ninja in the heaps under the bridge. and if you won 2 perfect matches from the goro, the skeletons would be armored. would move. Back in the day I remember having other kids go in the menu and putting the blood effects on. I played this game many times in kids my age basement. The game at the time was like something not seen before.
I remember for a long time I never knew the Raiden one but then one day I saw it in a game mag or something; so I tried it and was totally stoked when I actually worked.
Mortal Kombat the original this game is the reason why everyone see the mature ratings on video games these days haha this game is amazing I remember when mortal Kombat on the SNES had to use a code to get red sweat for blood and Sega genesis had the actual blood good move on Sega then mortal Kombat 2 came out on the SNES and this time the SNES had the actual blood my favorite pit fatality in mortal Kombat 2 is the acid pit hearing the announcer say finish him/her and then upper cutting him/her into the acid and then hearing a male voice say o I lost was priceless and after the dead and bloody male/female character floating on by your character in the acid pit then the announcer says the winning male/female name followed by fatality haha good times mortal Kombat 2 to this day is and always will be my favorite mk game of all times ❤️

ISSsm64 They learned the hard way when the Genesis version outsold the SNES version big time. The next year Mortal Kombat 2 was uncensored for SNES. So much for Nintendo morals…
I think its cooler jus a tad bcuz it shows off subzeros ice powers, something hes known 4. Especially in his first game where we c these characters 4 the first time its important 2 establish his kind of character.
Back when this 1st came out, my brother and I knew about "blood mode" to enable blood, but we didn't know about fatalities, so when the screen turned dark and Sub Zero ripped my head off, bringing my spinal column with it, our mouths dropped in awe. We had no idea what just happened, but we thought that was the coolest thing we've ever seen, and it was all by accident just mashing buttons. IIRC gaming magazines had some 'how to' guides so we borrowed some from the library and tried to get every fatality, was so cool to us young'ens.

The ZombieMan I don’t know if it’s true, but when it was a kid the rumor was that Liu Kang didn’t kill people in the first one because he was above that or to much of a good guy. People didn’t like it though since fatalities were like the coolest thing about characters. It sucked cause Liu Kang was such a badass and the best character in the game, but his fatality sucked. I was always a Sub-Zero guy. From the first time I ripped someone’s head off with the spine attached I’ve like him. Raiden has always been a close second
It isn't a rumor, it's canon in the main story that Liu Kang won't kill anyone because he's representing the Shaolin Monks in the tournament. The Shaolin Monks are peaceful.

Foi a partir dela que ao comprar o Mega drive (Sega Genesis) na época em 1992, veio esse cartucho e conheci a maior saga de luta dos games. Lembro até hj que havia segredos pra destravar, dentre eles o sangue e fatais semelhantes ao MAME. Quebrava cabeça que só até acessar. Só entrava SE o joystick fosse bom no direcional. Tinha 2 códigos. O cheat no options (baixo, cima, esq,esq, botão A direita e baixo) e o famoso A,B,A,C,A B,B numa tela com frases em amarelo ou branco. Os golpes fui adquirindo por revistas como Ação games, SGP (SuperGamePower), Game X, etc. Puxa que saudade daquela época.....
So let me get this straight... Rayden's fatality was changed from blowing up the opponent's head to turning him into ashes and a skull in the SNES version. And the SNES version is censored. Who thought that was a good idea? Heck, the censored Genesis version looks significantly tamer.

I remember MK was the game that made me finally admit to myself that SNES graphics were just better than Sega Genesis. Not an easy thing to a kid who didn't have any money and had gambled on Sega.
True, but probe was just terrible at programming. If sculptured had done the genesis version it would've been much better.
sega had a few games i wanted to play but yeah from sound, music and graphics not to mention game collection super nintendo was just far beyond at the time.

I actually like Raiden's and Sub-Zero's SNES fatalities. Raiden's is actually better than the Arcade version. I will always love the spine rip, though the ice shatter fatality is pretty awesome too

There is a full moon in the place where the bridge is located. When the flying broom witch passes through the full moon, if you take two turns perfectly, you will have the right to play with the green ninja in the heaps under the bridge. and if you won 2 perfect matches from the goro, the skeletons would be armored. would move. There is no such mystery in today's mortal war. It's sad
The fatalities on this one, are tame asf, compared to the fatalities in recent installations of this franchise! They've gone WAY over board with these.....but I still love'em!!😁
Back in the day I remember having other kids go in the menu and putting the blood effects on. I played this game many times in kids my age basement. The game at the time was like something not seen before.
I remember for a long time I never knew the Raiden one but then one day I saw it in a game mag or something; so I tried it and was totally stoked when I actually worked.

Mortal Kombat the original this game is the reason why everyone see the mature ratings on video games these days haha this game is amazing I remember when mortal Kombat on the SNES had to use a code to get red sweat for blood and Sega genesis had the actual blood good move on Sega then mortal Kombat 2 came out on the SNES and this time the SNES had the actual blood my favorite pit fatality in mortal Kombat 2 is the acid pit hearing the announcer say finish him/her and then upper cutting him/her into the acid and then hearing a male voice say o I lost was priceless and after the dead and bloody male/female character floating on by your character in the acid pit then the announcer says the winning male/female name followed by fatality haha good times mortal Kombat 2 to this day is and always will be my favorite mk game of all times ❤️
I used to like the SNES version of this game. I'm surprised they didn't decide to port Sub-Zero's arcade fatality where he rips his opponent's spine out, over to the SNES.
Nintendo had the "no blood/gore" rule on their version. back in the 90s nintendo was really into the censor bs
ISSsm64 They learned the hard way when the Genesis version outsold the SNES version big time. The next year Mortal Kombat 2 was uncensored for SNES. So much for Nintendo morals…

I think its cooler jus a tad bcuz it shows off subzeros ice powers, something hes known 4. Especially in his first game where we c these characters 4 the first time its important 2 establish his kind of character.

Back when this 1st came out, my brother and I knew about "blood mode" to enable blood, but we didn't know about fatalities, so when the screen turned dark and Sub Zero ripped my head off, bringing my spinal column with it, our mouths dropped in awe. We had no idea what just happened, but we thought that was the coolest thing we've ever seen, and it was all by accident just mashing buttons. IIRC gaming magazines had some 'how to' guides so we borrowed some from the library and tried to get every fatality, was so cool to us young'ens.

It's really funny, for the all the shit the MK1 SNES got, I think the altered Raiden fatality is actually better than the arcade.

The ZombieMan I don’t know if it’s true, but when it was a kid the rumor was that Liu Kang didn’t kill people in the first one because he was above that or to much of a good guy. People didn’t like it though since fatalities were like the coolest thing about characters. It sucked cause Liu Kang was such a badass and the best character in the game, but his fatality sucked. I was always a Sub-Zero guy. From the first time I ripped someone’s head off with the spine attached I’ve like him. Raiden has always been a close second

It isn't a rumor, it's canon in the main story that Liu Kang won't kill anyone because he's representing the Shaolin Monks in the tournament. The Shaolin Monks are peaceful.

Já joguei todas as plataformas....mas a que mais marcou pra mim foi a versão Sega Genesis 16 bits. Foi a partir dela que ao comprar o Mega drive (Sega Genesis) na época em 1992, veio esse cartucho e conheci a maior saga de luta dos games. Lembro até hj que havia segredos pra destravar, dentre eles o sangue e fatais semelhantes ao MAME. Quebrava cabeça que só até acessar. Só entrava SE o joystick fosse bom no direcional. Tinha 2 códigos. O cheat no options (baixo, cima, esq,esq, botão A direita e baixo) e o famoso A,B,A,C,A B,B numa tela com frases em amarelo ou branco. Os golpes fui adquirindo por revistas como Ação games, SGP (SuperGamePower), Game X, etc. Puxa que saudade daquela época.....

So let me get this straight... Rayden's fatality was changed from blowing up the opponent's head to turning him into ashes and a skull in the SNES version. And the SNES version is censored.
Who thought that was a good idea? Heck, the censored Genesis version looks significantly tamer.
