  • If you want non touristy things to do in London how about a delightful walking tour of Primrose Hill, one of London's most splendid places to visit in London outside the centre. One of the most serene and beautiful neighbourhoods in London. Joolz (that's me) is a Londoner born and bred and loves to show people around and tell you his personal problems too (if you'll listen).
Subscribe on RUclips ➜ / joolzguides
Julian McDonnell, your favourite London Guide and tourism film maker, starts at Chalk Fram Station where Madness took the photo for the cover of Baggy Trousers. Chalk Fram is also the location of the Winchester Club in Minder.
From there he takes you over Chalk Farm Bridge and down Regent's Park Road and into the village of Primrose Hill which has many cafes.
Then over Primrose Hill itself, which features in H.G. Wells War of the Worlds and donw towards Cecil Sharpe House, the Regents Canal and ultimately ending at The Landsdowne Pub.

There is another guy who does London videos who managed to get on Amazon prime. You are in a different league to his ones . I don't know if he was approached or if he approached them. Have you looked in to that ? I watch a lot of travel type documentarys and I must say that you'd be perfect for a TV show doing this or something similar . I think you're great.

The Rolling Stones had their "Between the Buttons" Album photo shot on Primrose Hill after an all night recording session....and Paul McCartney, spotted a mysterious man who was just behind him on the hill one early morning (after an all night Abbey Rd session) who suddenly disappeared not to be seen anywhere,...and wrote "Fool on the Hill" inspired by that experience....
Down at the Camden Lock area is Dingwall's, a very iconic punk bar which hosted legendary bands during the 70's-early 80's.....Also, the Roundhouse could be seen nearby, another iconic venue, which hosted bands from the Doors to the Ramones. The Clash had their rehearsal space just around the lock too (cover on an album photographed there too).
Perhaps you could make a Part II version of this area,....omitting the Movie Stars and Victorian Era chaps and focusing on Rock n' Rollers (although you did mention 'Madness'!).
I was a 20 year old American lad who spent the Spring & Summer of 1980 staying a block away from Chalk Farm Station....it was such a memorable time, I found myself wanting to know more about the area for years later.....I wish I'd knew then what I've learned from your video.

There is a bit more to the name “Chalk”. The chalk strata underneath london was shallow here and stored water under “Artesian pressure” and was a source of fresh water for London in the old days.
Then, in modern times, London sourced its water supply from further away.

Here I am in late June 2021 rewatching all of Joolz videos for the 5th time around! lol 👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hey don’t judge me lol. There are lots of worse things I could be doing instead of driving up the view count on Joolz videos lol
I encourage everyone to share his videos with as many people as you can. Lets see if we can get his subscribers up to a million before the lockdowns are completely done.
WOOHOO!!! Come on people! We can do it!
He does so much to bring us joy, entertainment, and most of all as close to being in London as possible without booking a flight or train and actually going there lol
    🇬🇧👍🇬🇧🚙🛵✈️🚅🍺🍺🍻 🇬🇧
    Cheers everyone! 🎩👑🎭🤹🏻‍♂️🏰.

Hey Joolz, as you might recall my message when you posted about Regents Park I mentioned the Amy Barracks being mentioned in HG Wells WAR OF THE WORLDS, well as your quoting from that here goes....”the sound of drumming and trumpeting came from the Albany Street Barracks”. 🥁🎺

We went to the same primary school! Although at quite different times. Mr. Wilkinson was head master when I went. I grew up in a flat on Regents Park Road as well, adjacent to the church. Been enjoying your videos , keep it up!

I used to live at 68 Regents Park Road, as shown on the video. Used to drink in the Lansdowne with a bunch of girls from the area. Brought back some memories! The area hasn't changed much, Richard Dare still has a shop there I see. And we used to dine out at Lemonia. Nice place! I wonder if "incredible Inedibles" is still on the street? They used to sell really realistic prop food for tv companies and similar.

The Cecil Sharpe house is the only place in London that does regular American contra dances, which I’ve done a lot of and is a ton of fun, so when I go to London on vacation, I’m going to go there and check it out :)

Thank you, Joolz (especially for not mentioning 'Lady in the Van' (no sarcasm intended) ) - and brightening my Sunday afternoon's fedupness. The variety of London/Primrosearchitecture is not matched by any other country, I guess. Hooray for England!

I've just recently discovered your videos, and after watching a couple of them I subscribed, they're so funny and informative. I'm from the North of England and I've worked in London a couple of times over the years, I just love the vibe, and the place fascinates me, but when I've been there I've never really had the time to explore, so that's why I'm loving your videos so much. So far I've only watched a few, and I'm really looking forward to watching them all, in fact I'm finding them quite addictive. So if ever I find myself heading on down there for a break, I'll be sure to check out your private walks, that could be a right hoot...so toodle pip and tally ho, I'm off to watch another show

I believe Primrose Hill is also the location where they filmed scenes from Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy with Sir Alec Guinness.

    • @andrewthegraciouslordrober327
      @andrewthegraciouslordrober327 3 года назад +2

EdEditz it is. There's a scene with Alec Guinness and a colleague walking down the steep path nearest the village, that curves round towards the west end which Joolz walks down, talking as they went, with the cameraman filming them form in front. - Not easily accomplished in those days.
